Delegate Becca resigns amid claims of inactivity
Becca became Delegate of the Region of Democrats after a fiercely contested election in which she edged out rival Aertan by a single vote, with 9 votes to her favor and 8 to his. However, Becca’s government was soon rocked by scandal. Two different individuals were appointed and later removed from the office of Secretary of Defense within a short period of time to a flurry of controversy. These two individuals, South Boston Irishmen and LiberalRobenia, were both critical of the Delegate’s choice to remove them from office, and were critical of the Delegates lack of activity in the region. Several other top government officials resigned in the last month, including Secretary of Interior Affairs (Aertan) in protest of the government, and Speaker of the House Malashaan and Chief Justice Reznora over claims of conflict and confrontation between members in the region. Claims of inactivity on the Delegate began to sound as government positions remained unfulfilled and the Delegate refrained from action, culminating in the resignation of the Delegate. She announced her resignation from the position with this speech.
~~~ Fellow Colleagues and Friends:
Tonight I had to make a decision that means so dearly to me and to the region I love. In recent days, members of the opposition have done questionable things secretive and publicly; the region I came to has drastically changed in some eyes for good while in others eyes, bad. Democrats have always been my most favorite region as it is my home region, but in recent months it became an center that hosted a foreign criminal and people who wished to play personally on past elections results, not to judge anyone's moral ideals, but that's just un-Democrat. I don't regret the things that I have done during this administration, but only one thing that shocked me, the people who I called allies and friends applauded and celebrated the downfall of this region rather than helping. But to get the final announcement, I feel ashamed and disappointed at what this region has become and how it has drifted so far from democracy. Whether it be from hosting a foreign Terrorist and region-hating radicals, it has indeed departed from democracy. Thereby, I resign from the office of President and I thank those who tried their best to save Democrats from a terrorist and region-bashers. Godspeed!
[/img]The speech angered many individuals in Democrats who felt that the Delegate did very little to help the region in her time as Delegate, and were incensed that she would try to take such a lofty position without recognizing her failings of her administration in her resignation.
Deposed Secretary of Defense South Boston Irishmen had this to say on the Delegate’s resignation.
I believe it is my duty as the "forum terrorist" to throw a party, who's interested?
There has been a mixed bag of comments upon the resignation and leaving of the former Delegate, with several individuals delighted by the departure, and many others calling for healing and reconciliation among members.
Big Plans in the House by Speaker Ricanoland
New Speaker of the House Ricanoland wasted little time making changes in the House. Since being elected, he has been pushing hard for an efficient House and reform. At the top of his agenda includes sweeping reforms to the judicial system and the Department of Defense. These reforms are supported by citizens of Democrats from many different groups. The Speaker had this to say on his proposed reforms.
As being Speaker of Democrats, when the people want something, they want it now. So this house will be hard at work at changing the role of the Defense Department forever. After which I will be pushing hard for a new civil court system alongside my many friends in the region. ~Ricanoland
Good luck to Speaker Ricanoland!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ December Elections 2011
The December elections were rife with controversy. Three elections were being held this election cycle. The seat for Speaker was open, with Ricanoland running unopposed. The seat currently occupied by Chief Justice Azure on the Supreme Court, as well as the seat occupied by the previous Supreme Court Justice Reznora after she resigned from the court, were also up for election. However, there were more than a few legal problems. First off, there was an issue with running the elections. Normally the head of elections is the Speaker of the House, but there was a resignation just before elections and the new Speaker would have had a conflict of interest in running the elections. The duty was to fall next to the Secretary of the Interior, but the last Secretary had resigned some time before and the Delegate had not yet appointed a replacement. The last named individual who was supposed to organize the elections would them be the Delegate, but she was inactive and could not be reached. Elections were not announced on the RMB as mandated by the Constitutional Charter, leaving many to question the legality of the races. The results of the polls are as follows.
Election for Supreme Court Justice- erm...
See, there was another problem with the elections. Democrats law says that citizens may nominate other citizens for a political office, and unless the nominee removes themselves from the ballot, they are on the ballot. We’re in the process of changing the law, but in the meantime this happened. Of course, we’re going to need a runoff for at least two of these elections if they are even deemed legal, and probably going to need to redo the third. Hopefully the new government under Delegate Kounelli can organize a new round of elections and we can move on to fixing these problems so we don’t have them again.

Thanks for reading the Democrats’ Regional Update! We hope you’ll read again in the future. If you like what you’ve read, come by and check out the place. We’re always looking for new faces to get involved, and we’d love to have you. If you didn’t like it, you should still come. You can drop by the Department of State’s offices and complain about what a piss poor job I’m doing.

Happy Holidays from your friends in Democrats!
Here is a small token from our region's art gallery. It is a photo (taken on a recent trip that I participated in) which captures a bit of the spirit of the season.

Just thought I would drop in for a brief, informal update on the region. We're presently holding elections for Speaker of the House and a seat on the Supreme Court. There was a large-scale drop-off in activity during the holiday season, but it appears that the region is now moving in a positive direction. We're currently having a healthy debate about veto powers and establishing a moon colony over on our forums, and so far only 3 people have been rick-rolled this month. All in all, Democrats is doing well. Hope our friends in the 10,000 Islands can say the same on this beautiful February weekend!

Just a quick check-in and regional update to our friends in the 10,000 Islands! Hope all is well!
Democrats is currently bouncing back in population and activity on the forums, thanks to the recruiting efforts of our own Queen Jeny and new citizen Heffalumpolopolis. Delegate Kounelli is well into her second term as WA Delegate, and her administration has been marked by a renewed focus on improving cabinet activity levels and accountability.
Speaker Ricanoland, representing the Reformist Party of Democrats, has been pushing through an ambitious legislative agenda to examine the veto powers of the WA Delegate (potentially creating a new line-item veto) and to consider making the WA Delegate's cabinet subject to confirmation by the House of Representatives (currently the system is purely appointment-based). These two subjects have been hotly contested, and referred to the Supreme Court to determine the most appropriate way to advance legislation that is constitutional. Ricanoland also recently achieved a significant legislative victory through passage of a bill mandating a regular "State of the Region" address from the WA Delegate.
Elections will soon commence for a new WA Delegate (currently held by Kounelli) and a position on the Supreme Court (currently held by Justice Reznora).
Thus far Kounelli has been silent on whether she will run for a third term. The Reformist Party of Democrats is planning a primary to determine their nominee, and thus far Ricanoland and former WA Delegate Liberal Robenia have been nominated as potential candidates for the position.
What does the next election cycle hold for Democrats? We'll have to wait and see. For now, that's all from the Region of Democrats.

THE GOVERNMENT

ELECTED POSITIONS: World Assembly Delegate - Malashaan World Assembly Vice Delegate – Liberalrobenia Speaker of the House of Representatives – Queen Jeny
THE CABINET: 1. Secretary of Internal Affairs - Heffalumpolopolis 2. Secretary of State – Kounelli 3. Secretary of Defense – Liberalrobenia 4. Attorney General – Queen Jeny
THE SUPREME COURT: Chief Justice - Reznora Justice – Liberal Pi Justice – AnyCrist
APRIL ELECTIONS
The 2012 April Elections results for Speaker and Court Justice were as follows:
Queen Jeny remains as Speaker of the House! Competition was tough, as she won with only one point ahead of Rep. Heffalumpolopolis. The same results also happened between Rep. Liberal Pi and Rep. Aertan. Congrats to both winners of the April Elections!
LEGISLATION
Passed by Delegate Malashaan: Freedom of Debate Act of 2012 -Proudly submitted by Representative Liberalrobenia, The Freedom of Debate Act further allows the speech rights of citizens within the House of Representatives. In a respectful manner, citizens can cooperate in discussions completely without being reprimanded by administrators. It's cosponsors are: Rep. Heffalumpolopolis and Rep. Malashaan. The New Executive Orders Act of 2012 -Recognizing the Delegate's inability to enforce the law, the citizens of Democrats sought to repeal The Executive Order Compromise Act. This updated legislation allows the Delegate to act accordingly and create executive orders to permit fast action and establishment of his or her decisions. Perjury and Libel Reform -A constant problem in Democrats is the usage of perjury and libel. This small clause is a tiny step in the direction of completely defining the terms. Delegate Malashaan is currently addressing the issue of how well in depth the definitions actually are, and is requesting the courts for an answer. House Resolution on Rules -Although not signed by the Delegate, the Speaker of the House requested approval and development for a new House Rules system. This new system will include citizen activity, election process for the Speaker, and various session methods amongst others.
HOT TOPIC: ECONOMY? Yes you heard right, Democrats is once again considering a fully working economy. Many citizens have been asking for it, and finally, Representative Liberal Pi has come up with a total of 5 economy bills. Each legislation establishes various economic functions, giving plenty of juicy details for the public to discuss about. Will Democrats give this plan a shot? Only time will tell, but for now, many people seem to support it.
Other bills in consideration: Law Authors Act and Criminal Code of Democrats, both proposed by Speaker of the House Queen Jeny. -The debate is just starting here, and already things are heating up!
So you wanna turn back time eh? Rep. Blooscornia and others are suggesting a complete turn around of many laws in Democrats, as stated in his "fix time" proposal. Debate is still on, and most citizens of Democrats are trying to put their personal feelings aside and are trying to work together for a compromise. For the longest time, citizens were getting easily frustrated and angry with one another, causing problems in both government and activity. If all goes well, then Democrats might just see a new dawn coming.
COURT ROOM DRAMA: South Boston Irishmen being charged again!
South Boston Irishmen, a long time member of Democrats, is again being charged for abuse of power. This time however, he has been officially charged guilty of his alleged crimes! Here is an official quote from Chief Justice Reznora:
It is the unanimous opinion of the Supreme Court of the Region of Democrats that the actions of South Boston Irishmen were an abuse of power as outlined by the Criminal Statutes Act and are therefore ILLEGAL.
The Justices, after some discussion have agreed upon the following sentence:
South Boston Irishmen will be suspended for 3 days starting at noon eastern time tomorrow, April 7th, 2012.
This case is now closed.
South Boston Irishmen was acting as Defense in place of Secretary of Defense Aertan, and used his powers to go on missions that were never approved by the Delegate. As stated by the current Defense Department Acts and Laws, the Secretary of Defense was supposed to seek the approval of the Delegate. He ignorantly refused to do this, and so was caught and brought to trial.
South Boston Irishmen's problems don't end there however, for he is also being charged with additional abuses of power. Once he has returned from his suspension, both charges against him will continue. Agamemnon, a representative from the United Defender's League, will be defending South Boston Irishmen in the cases to come.
This issue was not with opposition however. South Boston Irishmen's supporters stand by him, and argue that he was merely doing an appointed job that would have made the region even better. South Boston Irishmen left at around April 6, but not without supporting his claims that he is only doing what is best for the region.
FOR THE FUTURE: Friendship amongst groups

Forming Alliances Delegate Malashaan is currently working on building trusting relationships with other regions, including establishing treaties and fun activities for regions to perform together in. Both him and the Secretary of State (as well as participating citizens and ambassadors), are all working on a better relationship system with the outside world.
New Things to Explore With an economy underway and various other interesting tid bits, Democrats is looking to expand cultural dynamics. The Museum of Art is currently in the works of distributing more artistic fun for the citizens of Democrats to participate in. These will include: Contests, graphic shops, and help centers for all who wish to dive into the world of art!
How Awkward...yet Funny!

Come on, you know you all did this when you were little! (or maybe you still do it! haha)
Thank you all for reading today's update! I'm Nelli, the current Secretary of State for the Region of Democrats! Nelli gives you all virtual cookies and tons of hugs! See you next time~

Hello friends. I don't have a formal update but did want to check in and say hello on behalf of your friends in Democrats. Things have been a bit crazy over in our region, with three Supreme Court cases filed, allegations that an invision was attempted against our region being thrown around, and numerous reforms of our forum structure. We have also made a recent effort to look at developing an economy, and have seen high turnover in justices on the Democrats Supreme Court. Long-time regional leader Blooscornia is presently at the helm of Democrats as our elected WA Delegate.
