I am pleased to announce the formation of the Liberals United Action Committee, or LUAC. LUAC is an interest group, not a political party, so anyone, even TIP, MSPP, and TDP members, can join (See below for further explanation.). Please post in this thread to join!
Frequently Asked Questions
So, what exactly is LUAC? Is it a political party?
LUAC is not a political party—it’s an interest group/ action committee. We do not compete with TIP, MSPP, or TDP; in fact, we encourage members of both parties to also join LUAC. Just like the real-life Sierra Club or AARP, whose members include both Democrats and Republicans, LUAC is open to members of TIP, MSPP, TDP, or any other party in the Islands. Joining LUAC in no way removes a nation’s membership in a pre-existing political party—you can be a member of both! Furthermore, unlike a political party, we do not nominate candidates; we just can give out scores to any and all candidates running for office to demonstrate how liberal they are and whether they are in line with our platform.
What does LUAC do?
LUAC will express its support or disapproval of GA resolutions at vote (except for some repeals) and occasionally for SC resolutions. We also plan nonpartisan get-out-the-vote drives. Further, LUAC sponsors PolitiFact: XKI, a fact-checker to keep XKI's government officials accountable. LUAC, for some elections, will give candidates scores.
Who leads LUAC?
LUAC will have a chair and a whip. The chair runs the organization, announces LUAC scores, decides LUAC's position on WA resolutions based on PM's he or she receives from LUAC members, and operates LUAC's forum account. The whip is tasked with raising and maintaining membership. Elections will be held every four months for both positions. To run for either, member nations must be part of the WA. If the chair or whip resigns or CTE's at least four weeks before a scheduled election, a special by-election will be held. The chair also may create any appointed offices he or she feels are necessary. The whip will fill in for the chair if necessary and during that time can appoint an interim whip.
Why didn’t you make a political party? Why an interest group?
Comparing LUAC’s ideas and a political party's ideas is like comparing apples and oranges. We operate on a policy and WA level; they operate on an electoral level.
Who can become a member? What does being a member of LUAC entail?
Anyone can join LUAC, even if they are not progressive (although I don’t know why non-progressives would want to). We encourage all liberals to join, both in the modern sense of the world and the classical sense (i.e. libertarians). Members can vote for chair and whip of LUAC, and they can run for these posts if they are WA members. They can also PM the chair with their opinion on WA resolutions, which will be taken into account when deciding LUAC's position. Members will not be punished in any way for voting for a candidate who gets a low LUAC score or voting on a WA resolution against LUAC's position. LUAC accepts donations, but these are strictly voluntary. As a member of LUAC, you may, if you wish, put these pixel badges in your signature:
What if a candidate who receives a high LUAC score has no prior experience?
As good progressives, LUAC believes in equal opportunity for all, especially new members. In fact, when I founded LUAC, my own forum account was only a week old!
What rights do candidates scored by LUAC have?
They are allowed to mention our score in any campaign advertising. Candidates who do not wish to accept their LUAC score may PM the chair to have it rescinded.
Is there a conservative counterpart to LUAC?
Not as of yet, but feel free to start one.
How can I donate to LUAC?
Please direct any donations to LUAC's forum account.
