Internal Minister and Marquess Robban Chiku Ignis had always loved reading. He would spend hours reciting ancient Kannexian texts until nightfall. His reading habits, however, didn't change when he became the Internal Minister for the Emperor. Now he had unlimited access to the Imperial Archives of Old Texts and visited it frequently on his spare time. On one such day, he found an old document, dating back to the Nuuwaja Dynasty...
Marquess Ignis sighed, stretching. Although the document answered why Christianity was shunned in Kannex until recent years, it was still pretty boring. He wanted to find something else that was more interesting to read. Perhaps the Ancient Novels section would have some good stories.
Just then, a robed servant rushed in, bowing to the Internal Minister. "Lord Marquess, His Majesty has requested your presence in the Throne Room."
"What is it now...?" Robban Ignis yawned, but still got up quite urgently.
"Th-the Naan-Wespero Territory and the Vestrugol Province are rebelling!"
"WHAT?!" Ignis rushed out of the Imperial Archives.
Robban Ignis ran up the stairs and entered the Throne Room, bowing at the tip of the red carpet. "Y-your Majesty! Forgive me for my tardiness!"
Emperor Dovira Freisth waved for him to stand up. "Arise, Minister Ignis. We have an important meeting."
A large map of Kannex was rolled open on the floor, covering up much of the red carpet. Generals and military chiefs of staff were already there, so were some members of Parliament and the other Ministers.
The General in charge continued on with his presentation. He pointed at the map with his staff. "Yesterday, two hours after noon, we received an urgent message from the military garrison located in Naan-Gaaii City. A rebellion had broken out and the garrison was under siege. At five hours, we received a message from the said rebels. In short, they are Christian extremists allied with the CCKK terrorist organization that are rebelling from the so-called 'heathen' government. They want to establish a seperate state in Naan-Wespero Territory, whom they call the 'Chosen Land' for them. Vestrugol Province was taken over by the rebels this morning."
The Throne Room erupted into chatter. There were, of course, Christians among the officials gathered there, and many feared they were going to lose their jobs. Most were worried about how to deal with such a rebellion in the faraway southwest.
"In the sixth year of Emperor Tsingshimaz of the Nuuwaja Dynasty, foreign sailors landed on the beaches of Ignis-kusan. This sailors had barbarian guns and ships powered by steam. Calling themselves saviors, they worshipped a deity called "Christ" and forced the inhabitants of Ignis-kusan to convert to their god. Those who refused were slain or tortured. These barbarians repeated these crimes in many of our ports and struck fear into the inhabitants of our coastal cities.
When a missionary from a distant land asked permission to establish churhes in Kannex worshipping the same deity, the Emperor angrily struck a table and snapped it in half. His Majesty decreed that no Christian church should be established until these barbarian pirates were defeated.
In the eleventh year of Emperor Tsingshimaz's reign, the barbarian pirates were finally captured and executed by the slicing process.
By that time, foreigners who worshipped this same "Christ" arrived at Kannex, condemned our culture, and labeled those who did not follow their foreign ways as "heathens". Arrogant and boastful, they demanded concessions, resources, and immunity from the law. Our proud Kannexian Army drove these pompous barbarians away, and...
