Lanier Air Base (BA 160)
Tunezona, Dominion of Verusea
The sound of an A400M starting its engines was quickly replaced with the sound of a APILAS rocket blowing the plane in half, sending a fireball high into the night sky. Seconds later three Mirage 2000 fighters and a C-160 transport plane also stuck by rockets and burst into flames.
From a hill just east of the main runway of Lanier Air Base over 160 soldiers from the Tunezona Freedom Army (TFA) and Surdran military advisors fired a mix of Verusean, Surdra, Kannexian, and Globexanterian heavy machineguns, rockets, missiles, and mortars. The base’s control tower was destroyed first before the TFA soldiers shifted their fire on to the flight line and hangers in front of them. The mortar teams targeted the fuel storage tanks and the pilot barracks. In fact one white phosphorus round landed right in the middle of a barrack filled with over 25 sleeping fighter pilots, killing all but three of them.
Capitaine Nicolas Latour watched the slight in front of him with almost disturbing pleasure. He hated the Veruseans with all his might; they oppressed his people, raped his country, stole what was Tunezona’s and sent it overseas so they could profit from it while leaving them with nothing.
Looking at this watch Nicolas noticed that it had been 16 minutes since they started, time to leave. He gave the signal for the Sergent-chef standing next to him to fire a single flare. One by one the TFA soldiers left the hill and slipped into the desert. Capitaine Latour smiled as he gave the burning Air Base one last look before leaving the hill behind his men.
From the north and south Latour could see even more explosions and fires illuminating the bottoms of columns of black smoke. Every other Verusean Air Base and all but two Army Bases were also attacked tonight. Throughout the day numerous government buildings and facilities would be attacked.
The revolution had begun.
