It was in wee hours on the morning. People had waited for this day for a long time. IT was time that the Byzantines were defeated, and this time it would be at the hands of the Europeans. The Pope, Pope Innocent II, had had enough of the Byzantines ignoring his wishes, and had enough of coming to their rescue, only to be slapped in the face and told to go home. The Byzantines had held their ground. It was time now for the superior Europeans to take control of the thorn-in-their-sides, the Byzantines.
Jantis stood at the ready, her bronze sword raised, wearing her mother's green rubber jumpsuit and mask. Like her mother, Mantis, Jantis was a mutant mantis, but she was revered on this journey for her strength, and her ability to ride a horse. She was the more religious of her entire family, and she really wanted to be absolved for her sins.
But there was more to this than meets the eye. You see, her friends that would join her later, if they were male, the could dress as they pleased--but if they were women, they would have to be disguised as men. Such was the life of a woman in medieval times.
Finally, there was the stone. The stone protected her and her friends. With this stone, they could live forever. But there was a caveat in all of this: While self-defense was allowed, two things must never happen. They were: 1) Do not interfere with the course of history. That is it say, if the Byzantines were going to win, Jantis couldn't do anything about it. Same thing with the Europeans. And 2) Perhaps the more intriguing of the two is that her friends and Jantis could not be logged in the annals of history. This isn't to say they couldn't have a name, but they must come up with an alias as well. For instance, Jantis was going as Jim.
She and the others stood there, impatiently waiting for the others to show up before the leader could utter his speech and they would be on their way.
