Okay sitting down with me in this comfy leather love seat is none other than HockeyNutVille. Better known as Minister of Funny. Thank you for being here today. HNV May I call you HNV?
HNV: You can call me anything you want baby
Min: How did you first hear about Nationstates?
HNV: I was in a yahoo forum group for another game and one of the regulars mentioned this cool game where you could create your own country. A few of the others had already joined up and started their own region. So I checked it out and here I still today.
Min: Do you remember what the name of your first region was?
HNV: Vulcania
Min: How did you find the islands? Or should I say what brought you to the Islands?
HNV: After about a year or so in my first region, people slowly started dying off until there was just me and my puppet and one other guy. We discussed re-founding the region and starting over. Unfortunately, after we left and I came back the next day someone had already beaten us to it and I got a telegram basically saying "too bad, so sad". I had no invader/defender concept of the game at that point. So the other nation and I decided to go look for a new region and, link up when we found one. I decided to create a couple new puppets at the time and one of them got a telegram from the Delegate of the Islands at the time, Boktavia. I moved to the Islands later that night.
Min: What made you decide to get involved in TITO?
HNV: After registering on the forum and poking around for a bit I got a from Grub asking me if I wanted to go on a mission that night. I believe the rule is that you have to be a member for days first but I think he needed bodies pretty bad so I went along with it. Nothing noble
Min: Who were the first islanders you met?
HNV: define "met"
Min:
HNV:
Min: who were your first friends in the islands? (online)
HNV: For long time it was just Boolari. I was kinda shy my first year or so in the Islands and if I remember correctly she IM'd me out of the blue one night and we started chatting. She was probably the only person I talked to outside of the Islands for a while to start.
Min: Have you ever met anyone from the Islands in real life?
HNV: Heh. Yes, just one and she turned out to be the future Mrs. HNV. :-)
Min: A true love story in our very own Islands! Can we move onto some real life questions?
HNV: if you think you can handle it
Min: Where were you born?
HNV: Vancouver, British Columbia
Min: Are you still there?
HNV: nope
Min: What do you do for a living?
HNV: househusband right now
Min: Lucky!
HNV:
Min: What's your favorite food?
HNV: hmmm, tough one... I'll go with Sushi
Min: What is your favorite flavor of sushi?
HNV: I dunno about flavor but my favorite roll is either a Spider or a Spicy Crunchy Tuna
Min: What is your favorite color?
HNV: red
Min: Pepsi or coke?
HNV: diet coke
Min: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
HNV: Japan, Vietnam or Italy, in any order
Min: Back to your personal life. What is the story with you and your wife? What led to your meeting in real life and eventually end up marrying?
HNV: One night back in May 2006, Estay did a little XKI trivia night in a chat room. Estay, Jesioneka, Bahamamamma, you and moi took part. Afterwards, we hung around and talked for a few hours until it was just Bah and I. We talked until the wee early morning hours. Excluding the next day, we talked every day since. Funny aspect to it though, my computer had been overheating for two weeks prior to the trivia and would shut down after 10 minutes every time. I didn't expect to finish the trivia. As it turned out, my computer lasted all 7-8 hours. Go figure.
Min: That's Awesome!!! I totally remember that night too!
HNV: And Bah was having trouble even getting an internet signal that night. It's fortunate she even bothered hanging around despite being a minute behind the rest of us… Fate perhaps intervened?
Min: I like to think so.
HNV: we too :-)
Min: You're from Canada have you ever left the country and what places have you visited if you have?
HNV: I live in NC now but I've been across the US, Hawaii, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, through the Panama Canal, several Caribbean Islands, Colombia and Venezuela
Min: Any plans on becoming a public leader in the islands again?
HNV: Not for a long time I would imagine. I think people have seen enough of my publicness for a while
Min: Will you start joining us on missions again?
HNV: Already have, joined in on a liberation the other night. My first mission in...3-4 years?
Min: wow! That's fantastic! I wasn't online for it.
HNV: slacker
Min: If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
HNV: Argh, I'm never good at this question...ummm; I'll go with my Great Grandfather, big hockey star in his day. I would have loved to have had a chance to meet him.
Min: How long have you gone without showering? Or bathing?
HNV: too long...:-( But, it's on the agenda after this interview! Rejoice BOaphobes!
Min: What is your favorite kind of desert?
HNV: the kind with sand and palms trees
Min: Now we're going to move into some silly questions. If you could be any animal what would you be and why?
HNV: a Titmouse...just to be able to introduce myself as such, my hobbies as a Titmouse...use your imagination
Min: What is your dream job?
HNV: hmmm, and not using househusband?
Min: exactly.
HNV: probably general manager for a sports team of some sort
Min: okay that's cool, do you still play Hockey?
HNV: no, haven't played competitive in years
Min: Would you consider reopening the Hockey Tournament in the Islands?
HNV: if there was enough interest, people started going inactive and there were only like 3 or so people who still played.
Min: I was one of them.
HNV: I know
Min: Have you ever run for Senate?
HNV: nope
Min: What is the best thing about the islands in your opinion?
HNV: The multicultural aspect of it. We have people from all over the world with different cultures, religions and opinions. It is pretty cool to have a debate with folks of all sorts.
Min: If I gave you an elephant, where would you hide it?
HNV: *cough* I got a place in mind
Min: hey now! lol
HNV: I failed my course in elephant hiding back in high school :-(
Min: It says a lot about your character as a hockey nut.
HNV: indeed
Min: Can you give me one word to describe yourself? Not using the word Hockey.
HNV: omnipotent :-D
Min: Awesome! Is there any chance of getting your wife to come back to the Islands?
HNV: I've inquired a couple times but she is working very hard these days and usually doesn’t have a whole lot of time for other stuff. Maybe one day in the future but not anytime foreseeably
Min: Out of all the islanders who have ceased to exist (besides your wife) is there anyone in particular you miss the most?
HNV: Boolari, she was really the only person I was close with from that early crowd.
Min: Boxers or Briefs?
HNV: definetly boxers
Min: What would you say is your favorite board to read in the islands?
HNV: good question… TIP board
Min: ha ha! Suck up! Do you like Blondes or Brunettes?
HNV: I thought I was into Brunettes but I've dated more blondes...
Min: How do you feel about the WA Commend and Condemn resolutions?
HNV: In my opinion, I don't really care that much about them. I have a hollow view of the WA since everything that goes on in there really doesn’t actually do anything. The new liberating passworded regions is good though. I think some people take the whole C&C thing way too seriously.
Min: What is your favorite TV show?
HNV: The Office, Kitchen Nightmares and Family Guy
Min: Is there anything else you want to us before we conclude this session of "Eyes on the Islands"
HNV: Did I mention how awesome I am? Bah, not that I would have to, it is pretty apparent.
Min: Yes you are HNV, absolutely. Thank you for your time.
HNV: You can call me anything you want baby
