A slight pitter patter on the patio announced what Rico had waited for. The tiny drops of pure water splashed across the marbled surface that covered the back steps of one Rico Owala, resident of the marine institute located in Oranje,Xalasia. Rico poured himself a glass of water and sat down into his hardwood chair. A marine biologist by profession, Rico was enamored with aquatic life, and by effect, the environment by which they were surrounded with: Water. Rico marveled at the smooth contour of such a simplistic liquid as water, that he would simply fantasize about the days in which he would get to sit and watch it rain. The stove in the kitchen was nice and tidy, clearly displaying the time by way of an analog clock. It read 4:30 pm in bold numbers, that could be clearly read from across the room. The daily newspaper, The Oranje Times, sat on the table next to Rico. Summer had been waining on, and the newspaper blared with boring articles because the political season had already passed, with the new president being elected and all. Rico payed no attention to the paper, continuing to entice himself with the summer rain falling out side. Then all of the sudden a small blue figure seemed to dart in and out of the falling water. It seemed to be a bug with wings but had a much more human visage. The curious creature seemed to notice, all of the sudden, that it was being watched and proceeded to move toward the glass door that Rico was watching out of. It tapped the door ever so minutely so as to be seldom heard. But Rico was astute and recognized that the tiny creature was trying to get in. However, was slightly weary of letting such a creature into his house. He knew nothing about this creature, and for all he knew, it could be poisonous. Rico hesitated for a minute and then got up to open the door. But, just then, Rico's dog Bufford, came barreling towards the door. Bufford was not in the least bit intelligent but loving just the same. Bufford would constantly run into the glass door, thinking it to be open. So just as always, Bufford ran into the glass door and squished the creature that was previously trying to get in. Rico, in shock, opened the door to pick up the small creature, feebly flickering with life. Rico didn't know what to do but get a bowl full of water and put the creature in it. The small creature laid on the surface for what seemed like hours, all the while Bufford panting and shaking himself dry (much to the displeasure of Rico). Then, the small creature awoke, and peered around. Seeing Rico, it realized that he had saved it. The small creature then buzzed it's wings and flew out side. Rico felt sad that it had gone, but he felt happy that he had helped another lovely creature. The next morning, it was bright and sunny. The TV announced that today would be a very hot day and that it would not rain for a couple days. Rico was sad at this prospect and therefore loped onto the back patio to look towards the ocean. Upon stepping out onto the patio, he noticed a rock that was azure in color and was smooth as water. As he picked it up, the skies darkened, and then........it began to rain.
