Actually one could argue that dissolving Parliament and the constitution was a step in democracy, as you are getting rid of a constitution that favored the ruling party, and a parliament full of it's members...

True. Certainly those institutions had problems otherwise the protest would not have occurred. It's not so much that they have been suspended, but that they were suspended by the military which can now pass whatever law it likes. I haven't heard any discussion of civilians and opposition leaders working with the military to institute new laws and new government. All I've heard is that the head of the military is now the de facto head of government and that supposedly the military will stand aside in six months time. Of course that may just be due to the failings of the American media and there could be much more to it than I am currently aware of so please do correct me if I am wrong.
