Well, today marks my one-year anniversary in the Islands (or at least on the forum), so I thought I'd commemorate it with something special. Today, I am pleased to announce the start of the first annual Paffnia Prize!
What's the Paffnia Prize? This award will be given to the nation that comes up with the best new idea for the Islands each year. The idea has to be original and it has to be actually implemented. It also must help the Islands as a whole in some way or improve the quality of life.
Though I will not be retroactively awarding a Paffnia Prize this year, ideas like Taco Island Day and the XKI Poet Laureate (proposed by the late iPadonia) are in line with what I seek with this prize. Other good ideas last year include the Woon's "Echolilia Full Throttle Award" in immigration and the League of United Sovereign States in RP. Anyways, I'm sure I'm leaving out a few other great ideas, but you get the picture.
How much will the prize be? Well, this is the kicker. The prize will be half my annual XKI income, subject to a few very small caveats. Last year, that would have come out to roughly 150,000
. Plus, Wala has pledged an additional 50,000 to the winner, Byzesion 10,000 , Aersoldorf 100,000 , and Shizensky all the Tacos in his account. If you want to add to the prize money, just PM me.
How and when will the prize be chosen? Frankly, I have no idea right now. I could just decide it myself; I could form a committee, or I could have a public vote. I welcome suggestions on this front. I still have awhile to decide, though--the first Paffnia Prize will be awarded exactly a year from today.
There are a few small caveats. 1) If the nation who came up with the best idea in a year ceases to exist, then I will award him or her the prize in name only and keep the money. 2) Just like the RL Nobel Peace Prize, if there's a year where nothing truly merits the award, then it will not be given. However, I strongly believe this will not happen often given the creativity of the Islands. 3) I reserve the right to use a very small bit of the prize money to advertize the prize itself. I promise not to go overboard here. 4) If a nation does not want the money, they may designate another recipient to receive it.
