You want to learn about the Iraq War Neo Yundar?
I can tell you what I know. I will admit between Afghanistan and Iraq, I never supported the second war with Iraq (technically the third Persian Gulf war) so I was unpopular in my middle school thanks to my opinions. (hence why I became a lone wolf in my teen years had it not been for one of my girlfriends).
This war in Iraq has many names, in the beginning it was called Operation Iraqi Freedom, it also was called Desert Storms II, and the now common Iraqi War. It is said that the best memories are of those from emotions, this period was a very emotional time for me, it is said that one's teen years are suppose to be care free as Teenagers care about Girls, Boys, Fun stuff and all sorts. Me I was more concerned that my class was infected with War fever, because of that I was purged from my social group.
The war was a heavily misguided war because the evidence was not a threat made by a foreign leader, or a bombing or anything. It begun like the Spanish American war, a juicy story to trumpet support for a direct war on a Tyrant we all hated, named Saddam Hussein. It is fair to say that America got into the war because... well we wanted to go to war with Iraq, I didn't but all the Republicans, Militants, Generation X, and every Parent, Grand Parent, and Young Adult wanted this war, Why? because Fox News told them so. Inside the Government however, the real puppet master was George Bush and Dick Cheney, for Bush had wanted to pin 9/11 on Saddam from the beginning. It would make more emotional since that way, and Cheney had always felt that Desert Storm of 1990 was a misfaught war. He wanted a World War II moment like in well the end of World War II where we open the gates of the camps and free all in the concentration camps of Hitler. The Republicans had that moment in 1865, but they wanted a new moment to outshine FDR and Truman in World War II. and Saddam was being built up as a mass murder behind 9/11 who had WMDs and had Hired Osama as a scapegoat, ally, disguise? you name it it was, for it wasn't important the connection after all, all that was needed was to say Saddam was bad and that the dots be connected so the Americans think that Saddam was behind 9/11 even though the WMDs was the accusation.
everyone believed that the Planes could have had WMDs, Bush wasn't clear on which WMD's exactly (because WMD is easier to say over Nuclear). It didn't matter, what did was convincing the UN that this [Iraq] was their and our war, and that we must do the American way if we are all Americans, and bomb Iraq to the stone age. The world however was not as easy to convince. First Germany, and then France and the next thing you know the UN was mixed on the war, The UN did a search and found nothing, so in Protest Bush pulled out of the UN meeting and investigation, and decided, with Blair and the PM of Australia to invade anyway. on March 2003 the war begun and the shooting war ended quickly, and in December 2003, Saddam was captured. For the most part, Saddam was ill prepared because he wasn't sure what America was talking about and was confused as to what they were talking about on a WMD program, and wasn't thinking Bush was serous. The Result a short war and a long reconstruction. Why was the Reconstruction long? because the new goal for the mission was to push a perfect world according to the Neo-cons in Iraq where business was bigger than the government and there were no restrictions.
The result Government was too small to prevent a internal conflict between two ethnic groups in the city of Baghdad and an Insurgency spilled into a massive Civil War. A War that America got caught up in and formed a coalition of the willing, then behaved badly and most of that collation pulled out before the war ended. Many people talk about an Al Quida in Iraq. Mostly that happened after as some insurgents to intimidate the Americans called them selves hoping the name would give good luck. Were they Al Quida? I doubt it, but if they were Osama didn't approve. Partially because they were in there just to make chaos. They weren't really there to terrorize, they were there to make more mess. As for the Surge? Had the Surge happened in 2003, 2004, 2005, it might have hands down worked. it happend in 2007 and the Surge didn't work, because by the time we did the Surge, the Civil War had allready ended. so there was no more insurgency to Surge against. What did work however was the change in leadership. Once Gates was in there, he changed things around telling our troops to work with the Iraqi population, rather than against the population and by making small adjustments, they managed to turn Iraq around, the Surge did help because there were more people helping out, but it didn't just "Work" its more grey than a simple answer as some say.
Well here is my two cents, let me know if there is more you want to ask. I hope we never experience another war like that again.
