Gerald Stryker walks quickly down the lengthy hallway of the Department of Defense building, struggling to keep all his documentation under his arm. It's not good to be late to your own presentation... he muses.
Finally reaching the conference room, he finds a flurry of individuals searching for answers. Volume of speech increases at an exponential rate as the stakes of the situation begin to dawn on these government employees.
"Excuse me, gentlemen, but I believe I can bring a little clarity to a situation which is clearly clouded in ambiguity," Stryker asserts. Slowly the room calms down.
"Please elaborate, Mr. Stryker," says Ronald Boone, SecDef.
"As you all know, on Saturday, May 19th, one of the most important tech companies in this nation - EMCON - was digitally attacked when twenty-three employees were suddenly sucked into the system....."
"That's all very well and good, Mr. Stryker, but how does that list of individuals help us understand what occurred over this time period?" asked SecDef Boone.
"I was just about to get to that, Mr. Secretary," grumbles Stryker. "It may be a little more clear when I break down the days for you..."
DAY 1
Nobody Derezzed
NIGHT 1
Randomain (Engineer) defends Wordy (User)
Aersoldorf (Engineer) defends himself
CLU's attack Aerso (E) (Blocked)
Escanaba (Decoder) decodes Firstaria (User)
"What was interesting was that the Infiltrator did not attack anyone the first night. The lack of a kill prompted everyone to go with No Derezz the second day..."
DAY 2
Nobody Derezzed
NIGHT 2
Aersoldorf (E) defends Wordy (U)
Randomain (E) defends Aerso (E)
Naba (D) decodes Echolilia (U)
CLU's attack Aerso (E) (blocked)
La Vida (Infiltrator) attacks First (U) (Hit)
Results:
Firstaria (U) derezzed
Tanzoria (E) derezzed for inactivity
Nolanville (U) derezzed for inactivity
"The Innocents took a big blow when Tanzoria was among the group derezzed during the second phase. Two Engineers against two possible attacks is not great odds. It was at this point that the Innocents tried to kick up the lynching a notch..."
DAY 3
Wordy (User) derezzed
NIGHT 3
Aerso (E) defends himself
Randomain (E) defends Markanite (U)
Naba (D) decodes Boltor (U)
La Vida (I) attacks Barry (U) (Miss)
CLU's attack Gunny (U) (Hit)
Results:
Gunny (U) derezzed
"With little information to grasp to, the Innocents seems to be grasping at straws. Until some interesting information is revealed regarding Hoodhat's quiet demeanor..."
DAY 4
Hoodhat (CLU) derezzed
NIGHT 4
Aerso (E) defends Surdra (Admin)
Randomain (E) defends Himself
Naba (D) decodes Nox (Hacker)
CLU's attack Aerso (E) (Hit)
La Vida (I) attacks Byz (CLU) (Hit)
Results:
Aerso (E) derezzed
Byz (CLU) derezzed
"By being the second one to vote for Hoodhat, a fellow CLU, Malecia basically absolved himself of much suspicion, allowing him to glide to victory so long as he kept his head low from there..."
DAY 5
Surdra (Admin) derezzed
NIGHT 5
CLU's attack Boltor (U) (Hit)
La Vida (I) attacks Boltor (U) (Nullified)
Results:
Boltor (U) derezzed
"With the death of the Admin, the Malicious Programs had free reign of the night phase. The Innocents caught a lucky break when both the CLU's and the Infiltrator attacked the same person..."
"The death of Nox was unfortunate; however, it was interesting to note that he never took advantage of his role as Hacker. It seems the limitations placed on his ability made him want to save them until the very end, but the risk didn't pay out; the Admin died before he could use it..."
"It was during this night that the Malicious Programs took out Naba, the biggest guiding light during the game. The revelation of his role did little to help him, and he was unfortunately unable to decode any of the MP's..."
DAY 8
Walabamba (CLU) derezzed
NIGHT 8
La Vida (I) attacks Randomain (E) (Miss)
Malecia (CLU) attacks La Vida (I) (Hit)
Results:
La Vida (I) derezzed
"Here's where the game gets interesting. The death of Wala was an extremely lucky break for the Innocents, leaving only one CLU remaining. Secondly, Mal's attack on Vida, the only other Malicious Program left, made it a one versus five battle. Not very good odds; however, Mal's riding on the coattails of Hoodhat's death left him with a particular advantage..."
"Suddenly the tables have turned. With the death of two more innocents, Malecia needs only one more killing during the day phase to take control of the system..."
"...And it's handed to him on a silver platter. There was no hope for the remaining innocent, Ko, once Mal had dominated the rest of the programs. Malecia now has full control of EMCON Technologies, and is looking to spread his domination."
The room is silent. "What exactly do you mean by that?" SecDef Boone asks.
"I mean to say that there's a terminal on the Grid on which Mal can bring whatever programs he wants into the real world. I mean to say that he's currently building an army of thousands, using the most advanced technology in the world. I mean to say, sir, that we have exactly one week before his army is battle-ready." Mr. Stryker shuffles nervously on both feet.
"Then God help us all," mutters SecDef Boone.
