All weapons are deadly. That's their point.
Take a look at the Texas bell tower massacre. None of the principle weapons used were particularly special. Many of them could easily have been just typical hunting weapons.
One man with a bolt action rifle and cover could kill a lot of people.
An excellent example would be Chris Kyle, who made almost all of his claimed 250 sniper kills with bolt action rifles. Sure he was a SEAL but lots of people shoot well.
You can't just be lead by the media with their claims of assault weapons (which almost nobody has because they require burst or fully automatic fire). Anyone who has converted their weapon to be burst or fully automatic is breaking the law.
You need a class 3 license to own a proper assault weapon and they typically cost twice as much as their semi-automatic lookalikes.
About the only way you can reduce the types of weapons is to make everyone go back to black powder so they can only shoot 4 or 5 rounds a minute and an effective range of about 500 yards (if you are incredibly good).
The big thing is you can't use terms like "most deadly" when it comes to firearms. Every single one is considered deadly, from a .17 all the way up to a .75 black powder muzzle loader.
If it's going to break down to how many people you can kill, you need to eliminate all handguns, all bolt action and semi-automatic rifles, and all pump and semi-auto shotguns.
That leaves you with single or double barrel shotguns, and some black powder rifles.
I'll wager that the guys in combat give more thought to the dude 600 yards away on a rooftop with a scoped bolt action, than the dude with the AK 200 yards away.
