It had been quite some time since the last time the LUSS had met. Things were new. Mutanatia, after having quite some time with the curious case of the Ambassador in the Night, had rejoined. They hoped to strengthen old relationships, establish new ones, and above all, forge peace and understanding amongst the countries of the world.
Mantado took his seat at the head of the Security Council table (each meeting, the positions were rotated) while the others filed into their main room, seated just slightly below the SC.
The Solicitor-General banged the sessions into session and Mantado rose to speak, shuffling his papers.
“There are a few things my new President want to bring to our attention and possibly enact here in the LUSS.
Our big one, though, is that we’d like to see a few committees created:
1) The terrorism committee. Especially with the abduction of our ambassador, one has to be prepared for terroristic activities in this ever changing world. Given that Surdra is the military country here I would suggest he and a 2 seats be placed on this committee. The committee would report back to the Security Council with their plans, which would either pass or veto them, and then put it for vote and passage in the General Assembly.
2) A Diversity Council. This would be used to spread the word about the different cultures and ideals that each of our countries have. We would eventually put together a document of the different cultures, identities, etc. in the aims of creating and promoting tolerance and acceptance amongst our people.
3) A Human Rights Council. This would be chaired by our nation and Kannex. The aim of this group would be to establish what rights should be granted universally to all. A quick one I can think of is the right to a fair trial.
4) Environmental Committee. With our developing countries, sometimes tearing down a forest can do far more than just contribute to our carbon footprint. There also should be lectures on invasive species, and different motions we can pass through the general assembly to help promote environment wellbeing. This is our nation’s main concern, so we’d like the chairmanship.
5) Committee on Helping the Poor and Underprivileged. Each country that I know of has some percentage of citizens living in poor or poverty-stricken conditions. How do we make things better for our citizens. I proposed Boltor chair this committee.
6) Finally, a Literacy Council. This would help combat the problem of illiteracy in some of our countries. Motions would be passed to help combat the spread of illiteracy and help in promotion of literate awareness.
7) If anyone would like to add councils, please speak now. If not, let’s debate whether we need them or not.
