Verlin strives to be a progressive, peaceful democracy that is inclusive of minorities and open in the democratic process. The government is widely looked on as a benevolent one that tries to look out for its worst-off citizens, promoting welfare, healthcare, and education. In addition, immigration is encouraged, as it is viewed as a way to attract more talent to the country's institutions, and make Verlin a better place.
Though the majority of Verlin are religiously affiliated, only a third say that they are religious. Religion is commonly held as a private affair, that has little to do with the government.
The arts are widely appreciated and supported in Verlin, with the Valgosius Philharmonic, The Verlin Ballet, The Verlin Opera and the Verlin Folk Dance Group all located in Valgosia. In addition, ethnic and minority culture is actively encouraged, though none are officially sponsored as yet.
