Hi! I'm new to NS and have a socialist country with extremely good civil rights and political rights, a well armed people, as well as other pros. However, my tiny nation of 5 million has an economy in the dumps. How do I help my economy?
Try to pick issue options which favour business. That should help your economy. Of course, in NS you seldom get anything for nothing, so improving your economy often means worsening other parts of your country, like the environment or equality.
There are really three levels in this game (from my perspective at least.)
1) The Formal NS Level is the one where you answer questions and the 'game' determines how weird your nation is and how crappy (or vibrant) your economy is. To be honest, I always answer the Qs honestly, but I don't worry about the results: I view whatever is written about me as the kind of thing a clueless reporter would write: sometimes they got it, sometimes they're out to lunch.
2) The world within the Region, as it plays out on this Board. There is somewhat of a disconnect between the Regional Play and the rest of NS, *except insofar as the all-important TITO/Defender role.* So, you could work within the Regional 10000 Islands Proboard to build your economy through role-playing, stock, etc.
3) Then there is the 3rd level, which usually involves the *least* amount of interaction with others, but which I find the most rewarding - and that is the story line you create yourself for your own nation. I try and keep a news thread going in both the NS Forum and the RP Forum here in 10000 Islands, using "press releases," to document challenges and changes. In fact, I just held a "Symposium" n which about 6 nations contributed and/or participated. Quite frankly, I *used* that symposium to justify my nation's occupying an uninhabited, unclaimed island in an effort to expand agricultural operations. I expect that in the next week or two, I will be announcing major trade deals with another nation in NS (not in XKI.) "Making my own way" is a more brain-challenging, exciting way of growing my nation than worrying about what the NS algorithm says about my economy.
