New Advertising Rules

The Council has agreed to update the rules on advertising. READ THIS POST BEFORE POSTING ANY ADVERTISING, IN ANY FORM.


Overall Rules:

• Only the following types of ads require the payment of a fee to the Regional Reserve:
  
  
  • Ads that (directly or indirectly) solicit votes for a campaign (for a specific candidate, a slate of candidates, a WA resolution, etc.) or joining a political party or organization
    
  • Ads for for-profit businesses
    
  
  All other advertisements (e.g. for charities, the Best Flag Contest, nonpartisan GOTV campaigns, University classes, etc.) are free.
• The old rule distinguishing between "Vote for [candidate]!" and "I support [candidate]" is eliminated. Both now require a fee.
• With permission of both, one nation/company/party may pay for an ad displayed by another nation/company/party.
  
• The Regional Reserve Chairman shall be the arbiter of these rules, with oversight from the Council and the Chief Executive. Fines or other punishments may be imposed for breaking these rules.
• Advertising in private publications is left to their discretion.

Free Advertising:

The following types of advertising are free:

• Forum personal messages
  
• Normal, manual telegrams
• Manual telegrams sent via telegram templates
• One official campaign thread per election cycle
• One headquarters thread and/or one incorporation papers thread in the main Regional Reserve board per business
• Posts in a business' sub-board
• Posts in the thread of your own political party
• Custom display names, avatars, and signature ads on business or party forum accounts
• Job listings in the Jobs Opportunities board
• Posts in "Post Anything!"-style spam threads on Shelter's Taco Island (no advertising in threads with any sort of posting rules/structure)
• Nation attributes/custom fields on your NationStates nation
  
• NationStates factbooks and dispatches

Discontinued/Disallowed Advertising:

Ad links on the 10000 Islands' World Factbook Entry have been discontinued. Additionally, pinned dispatches right below the WFE must also be free of advertising. Finally, mass TG's sent using the powers of a regional officer and mass PM's sent using forum admin powers cannot be used for ads.


Public Ad Purchases:

You may make your ad purchase privately, but you are encouraged to post in this thread whenever you buy an ad.
