I think opening up a thread for all nations to comment, like your "Observer's Seats", would be something we'd certainly want to do. Something like the "Beachside Bleachers" or similar sort.

I'm fine with moving the games forward a bit. We should probably finish up the basics soon though, so I can contact the other regions with details. They probably need a bit of time to prepare as well.

Are you ok to sort out how we gather applications Ananke? I'll write up a brief introduction tomorrow and we can combine that with Barry's list of games and your instructions for applicants and I think that should be it.

Also, how many athletes did we want each nation to send? I suggested four in the other thread but I don't think it would make much difference if there were eight. I don't think we should have any limits to gender or anything for the athletes.

I should have a more detailed description of the individual games on your desks by tomorrow morning. I have a lot of things in the hopper (both NS & RL) right now, so please bear with me.

I would envision there being two major threads once the games begin, really based upon Herzil's approach for the Wysteria games. After all, why re-invent a wheel that seems to be rolling well? One thread would be for Ater's event outcomes/commentary, and my follow-up commentary. The second would be for the participating nations to comment in, like Herzil's "Observers" thread. We could call it: "Beach Bleachers", "Beachside Bleachers", "Beachbums Bleachers", whatever.

As far as the number of athletes each nation brings, I think I'd kind of leave it up to each participant. I don't think we want to 'over-regulate' them by requiring a set number like 4 or 8, or whatever. Plus, when I look at the 8 events Ater came up with, they all seem pretty gender-neutral. So again, I'd leave that up to each Nation, kind of like as Herzil has done. Bottom line on both number and gender of athletes, I'd leave it free-flowing - that gives everyone's imagination a chance to run wild and is a large part of the fun in having a team.

Please forgive typos, spelling, etc., and feel free to edit, modify, or add anything you think should or shouldn’t be in there.

Beach Fashion Show[/i]
The opening event in the Islander’s Beach Championship involves Models from each Nation showing off some Beach Themed Fashion, either in the style of their home Region or Nation, or in a 10000 Islands tropical theme. This competition allows every participating Nation to either proudly display the splendor, creativity, and/or edginess of its homeland’s beach attire, or shamelessly pander for the favor of the local XKI Judges by displaying attractive beachwear befitting of only 10000 Islanders.
*Judging based on Fashion Originality and Modelling Technique.

Taco Island Sand Sculpting
This contest takes us down to the shores of Taco Island, itself. Artists from each Nation must construct a sand sculpture from the beautiful white-sands that adore and define one of the most picturesque and pristine beaches of all 10000 Islands. The sculptures must measure at least 3x3x3 feet, and survive the island’s battering winds and surf for no less than 1 hour after the judging starts. Sculptures depicting Cats, Pandas, or Penguins are strictly forbidden.
*Judging based on Complexity, Artistic Merit, and Creativity.

”Wipe-Me-Out-Not!” Surfing
The churning and turbulent waters off Wavebreak Beach will be the venue for our Surfing competition. Each Nation’s surfer will make 3 runs, attempting to be more and more creative from a risk-taking viewpoint with each attempt. We will all hope for a relatively calm day, as the “normal” wind-blown waters off Wavebreak are beyond the capabilities of even the most skilled and experienced Surfer dude or dudette.

*Judging based upon Complexity of Stunts and Number of Successful Runs.

Silly Hat Limbo Competition
This contest will bring especially limber Dancers from all Nations together, to see just ”how low can you can go?” All Dancers must also adorn themselves with a silly hat, which they must both wear and retain on their heads after successfully passing underneath the “Dripping Taco” Limbo bar.
*Judging based upon Lowest Height, Dance Technique, and Hat Silliness.

Individual Sailing-Boat Orienteering
This may be the most challenging of our events. Sailboat Captains must circumnavigate an orienteering course around Taco Island in the quickest time possible. For no good reason, but interestingly, it will have a “running” start, beginning inside the Taco Tiki Bar. At the starter’s gun, each Captain must dash from their barstools, down the beach to their anchored sailboats, and then navigate their way around or through various obstacles at sea, back to the starting dock, and finally up the beach to their starting barstools in the Taco Tiki Bar.
*Judging based upon Fastest Times leaving from and returning to the Taco Tiki Bar.

Under The Sea” Spear Gunning
Here, scuba divers from all participating Nations will maneuver their way through Shipwreck Reef and spear gun various targets for points. Prized targets will range from the highly sought after & scrumptious “Blue Water Bacon Fish”, to the poisonous and highly ‘ouch!’-producing “Schnitzel-Like Smelling Algae Plant”. However…Beware! Thar be monsters, traps, and many sharp pointy things in them thar corals, as well!
*Judging based on the Number of Targets Hit and Difficulty of Targets.

Rock Pool Forage, Cook Off, and Judges’ Toast
This is primarily a culinary competition. Chefs from each Nation must search through rock pools, and forage under the rocks, to find mouth-watering ingredients to cook a delicious meal for the Judges. However, the Chefs will also be graded on the quality of a befitting toast they make to the Judges on the subject of how fairly and magnificently the Judges have carried out their difficult tasks during the games.
*Judging based on the Quality of Ingredients, Taste, Presentation of Dishes, and Best Toast to Judges.

"Spice My World” Cocktail Making
The culminating event of the Islander’s Beach Championship is one requiring Mixologists to create a unique cocktail - with an extra kick – again, for the judges’ palates. Each concoction should capture the spirit of these Islander games. They should also strive to provide a memorable beverage with which to remember each participating Nation, until we all meet in friendship once again, in the next inter-regional games.
*Judging based on Taste, Hotness, and “Punch”.

The Description is great only two things you might want to consider:

1) "Under The Sea” Spear Gunning" - If you are suggesting that divers will have to beware of traps and monsters, you should consider judging based on those categories as well
In other words, if a diver hits a trap or get Electroshock from a sea monster his points might be reduced by 1 or 2 points.

2) "Rock Pool Forage, Cook Off, and Judges’ Toast" - You stated that chefs will have to go through a rock pools, that suggest that the odds of them findings same number of Ingredients is not 100%
As such it might be worth putting a judging category for "Number of Ingredients" (it can very much be that a chef only found 2 Ingredients and made a dish that took first prize compare to someone who found 5 Ingredients but the taste and presentation were awful)

@ Ater Nox: Yep, I'm fine with organizing participants. I assume we'll do it the same way as Herzil, with regional organizers taking care of their own participants, while I poke 10ki people into participating + motivate the other regional organizers.

I think we should make it so all participating nations take part in all 8 disciplines. Lets just tell them to post 8 athlete names. If someone signs up, but don't post athlete names they'll still be able to participate. We'll just have to give them a description ourselves.

Perhaps Rock Pool etc. can have Quality of Ingredients, Taste, Presentation of Dishes, and Number of Ingredients as its judging categories and Cocktail can have Taste, Toast and "Punch" where punch is the hotness and alcoholic kick.

I would suggest that either Ater Nox, or Barry, will write an opening Advertizing paragraph.

We can then use it for recruiting in the different regions. Otherwise we will have to count on our own vivid Imagination to suggest an opening advertize which isnt a bad idea but might be some discrepancies.


If its 8 games = 8 athletes - I suggest you wont give them the ability to decide to which game to send an athlete as its a Nightmare of scoring Organization when a nation doesnt send a full list

I'll give a shot at whipping up some advertising over the weekend for you guys to take a look at.

I'll also make the modifications to the game events descriptions that Herzil suggested.

Additionally, after giving it some thought, I think it makes sense to move the "Judges Toast" from the cooking competition to the cocktail making event at the end of the games. It just seems to me that that's where it is should go, given that toasts involve drinking, and not cooking, unless your someone like me when I'm BBQ'ing and having a couple beers at the same time.
Also, it would seem more logical to salute/blast the Judges at the very end of the games.

The biggest issue with this is then you have nations who are forced to boycott the games entirely for RP reasons instead of just not sending athletes for one or more events.

That would fly if the nations from Yggdrasil who put just 3 out of 10 athletes during the summer games actually participated in the observers seats

but in fact they didn't so the notion that sending 7 will boycott - doesn't really stand.


If those who host the games, put months of effort to make it worth while, its the common sense and minimal that is expected from those who want to participate and all that they are required is to think of full list of athletes.

If the nations participating and their athletes can be sent to me in an excel document like the one attached, then I have no problems with people not sending 8 athletes or wanting to choose which athletes compete in which games.

Hey guys, I think that the signup thread for the games is a bt hard to find if you;re just perusing the boards. In fact, without the link handy, *I*even have a hard time finding it.

I think that on the Boards we should have a temporary Special Section that shows up on the Home Board Page just for the games: the sign-ups, the Observation Seats Thread, and the Results Thread, all highlighted as its own major Board.

So from Summarizing Awards, we would have:

Islander's Cup - Given to the Winning Region (will replace the CRGC Regional Gold Medal)

BeachComber Trophy - Given to the Winning Nation in the entire Championship.

Gold/Silver/Bronze Medals - Given to the different Nations for winning specific tournaments.


Ater Nox, Barry, Ananke II, Are there any other awards you thought about giving or is the list done?!

I liked how you gave out the Elisse Heroes medals, Herzil. Doing something like that gives us a way to highlight nations who post something interesting in the Observer's Seat or gets an interesting score in some discipline without getting into the top 3.

We already talked a bit about it, but I think it'd be a good idea if the Islander's Cup isn't just given to the region with the most medals, but instead to the region with the most medals compared to the number of participating nations they sent. That way 10ki won't necessarily be the most likely winner.

First regarding the Islander's cup - giving it, as you say Num of Medals VS Number of Participants sounds reasonable to me.


As to The Special Dedication Medals I think that it would be a great Idea but in order for it to work you need to find something that really captures the ESSENCE of 10KI.

"Elisse Heroes" happens to be Herzil National Gardens at the Capital so the Symbolic comes from being honored in a place that you mostly see Important presidents or Altruistic people rather than Athletes.


The Bottom line is that it can be anything that you believe makes your region great and put it as an Honor Medal
then you need to find an image that will capture it .

We could maybe name the special award after an Islander, who used to be a big part of the region, but isn't active anymore, like Yavanna, Jesioneka or New Boniventure.

I'm not knowledgeable about XKI History but if there is a person who created "The Modern Islander's" or first defender nation etc, well it sounds interesting concept.

You can also suggest a spot: for example if the 10k Islands were created from an eruption of a specific Lava Mountain
you can call it after the name of the mountain

Or some goddess cried over her lover, and her tear hit the water and the islands created - who knows a medal with a Tear engraved ..

You can be extremely creative here
