Poet Laureate Contest, 2/15

It's that time of year again--the Poet Laureate Contest is now open! While I'll probably return to longer-form poetry in the next contest, I thought I'd start this contest off with my favorite poetic form: haiku! So, all entries in this iteration of the contest must be in the form of a haiku. For those of you well-versed in Japanese poetry, these are actually probably more senryu than haiku, but whatever. For those less well-versed, a haiku is a poem of 17 (or fewer) syllables, in three lines, arranged as follows: a first line of 5 (or fewer) syllables, a second line of 7 (or fewer) syllables, and a third of 5 (or fewer) syllables. Here's an example:

Master of rhyme, form, and verse
Poet Laureate

Given the constraints of haiku, the theme is very broad--anything to do with the Islands or NationStates; past, present, or future. Since haiku are so short, I will accept up to two entries per citizen. Please PM me all entries by 11:59 P.M. EST, Sunday, February 8. One question Paffnia - if we submit 2 entries then how will the voting be handled? Each entry judged separately? The 2 entries judged together as a single entry? Or the votes for each entry added together to give a total? If they're judged independently then it is risky to submit 2 because you could divide your votes between 2 haiku and potentially lose to an author who only submits one

I was assuming that it'd be something like choosing the best of the two entries, and then judging those alongside the others. It'd be the most fair instead of judging every single one of them together.

Huh, good question Aersoldorf. I was originally just going to have all entries in one poll; best haiku wins. But your point about vote-splitting is good, so I think I'll put all the haiku individually in a poll, manually sum the votes for each pair of entries myself, and the greatest sum wins.
