Yes, this is the OOC thread for War of the Houses 2. You can find the IC thread here: 10000islands.proboards.com/thread/30275/war-houses-2-ic
A few words before we start: It has been years since I played Gamemaster for any sort of RP and that was only one time. It may turn out over the course of the next four weeks that I suck at this. In that case, please do bear with me, but do not be afraid to voice criticism OOC either via PM or in this thread.
As in the last War of the Houses your teams will compete in different competitions on the forums and on NS. Some of these have been re-used from WotH 1, others have been replaced. Some of the competitions can be done with the help of your housemates, others are restricted to signed-up team members only. I will try and make it as clear as possible which of these apply to any given competition.
The role-play component is new and I will lay out some details below. The RP does count into scoring the following way: Each team that participates in the RP will receive 50 points for each week where it did participate (unless they are already eliminated). If I think that a house has particularly excelled at the RP part, I will award additional points. If your team chooses to godmod its way through the RP, harsh penalties will be handed out. Usual roleplay etiquette applies, of course.
At the end of each week, points will be awarded for the tasks you have been given and for the RP stuff. Then, the House with the lowest overall score (accumulated over the weeks) will be eliminated from the competition.
Now for the RP:
I will try to describe the setting I have in mind. If you are unsure about anything, don't hesitate to ask me.
The War takes place in a land fittingly called "Lyonesse East". Tech-level-wise, think Elizabethan. For centuries, the land was divided between "Houses" (somewhat similar to Scottish clans). Then, 77 years ago, a war broke out between these houses that lasted for seven years. After the War had ended, the House of Aersoldorf had vanquished its opponents and Lord Aersoldorf ruled over all the lands of Lyonesse East. According to an ancient tradition that has not been invoked for centuries, if all the Houses agree on one leader, that leader may be crowned as the Emperor of the Realm. To achieve this goal, Lord Aersoldorf disbanded all the other Houses. But of course, they went underground instead of actually disbanding.
Each one of you will assume the role of a House member (or leader) I have not written profiles for each one of you, as I want you to develop your characters yourself. I have however compiled rough profiles of the Houses themselves, so that you understand where your character comes from and what aims your house has:
The Imperial House of Aersoldorf (Aersoldorf, Flemingisa, Witchcraft and Sorcery, The Candy Lane, Acadeshia, The Changeling Horde)
Seventy years ago, your house was victorious over the other Houses. Now, you firmly believe that it is time to make Lord Aersoldorf the emperor. Of course you view any challenge to Aerso's claim to the throne as utter hogwash and the other Houses as despicable rabble-rousers that should have been beheaded long ago.
The rebellious House of Markanite (Markanite, The Jensmonian Empire, Christophilia)
After the war, you fled to the mountain caves of the North. From there, you started operating as bandits, ambushing transports and attacking troops that were loyal to Lord Aersoldorf. Now that he thinks he's going to become emperor, you have returned to the capital to announce that Lord Markanite is the only true candidate for the throne.
The obscure House of Boltor (Boltor, Barry, Hood, Derpopoliss)
After the war, the House of Boltor became a somewhat misterious, shadowy underground organisation in the capital. You tried to subvert Lord Aersoldorf's reign through assassination attempts and covert operations. You were quite content with everyone thinking your house had vanished. But with the recent announcement that Aersoldorf would be crowned as emperor, you have no choice but to reveal yourselves. After all, only Lord Boltor should be on the throne, right?
The rouge House of Ater Nox (Ater Nox, Jin, thewestmarches, Coreyo, @shinnuk)
In the South Eastern costal region of Lyonesse East, there is a more or less small strip of land that is not in fact under the control of the Aersoldorfian government. This is the last retreat of the House of Ater Nox. Since yours is the only House beside Aerso's that still has a functioning government to run, you are more politicians than you are warriors.
The forsaken House of HumanSanity (@shadow)
Long before the first war of the Houses had broken out, Lord HumanSanity had fled the land after a particularly nasty bar fight. However, his loyal housemates still believe that he has a claim to the throne and that the throne of the emperor must remain empty until his return (which you firmly believe in). To mark this claim, the have sent an emissary to the capital. That's you, @shadow.
The undead House of Wordy (Lower Columbia, Shy Guy)
You're not really Zombies, don't worry. The Lady Wordy has passed away several months ago, without leaving an heiress behind to take over the house. However, her House members have decided to go on without her, until an heiress is found. You shall defend her honour. She would never have accepted an Aersoldorf on the throne. You have to do everything in your power to stop him.
The RP is to take place in the IC thread going up any minute and (if you like) your House threads. If you choose to use PMs for super-secret stuff, please include me in all IC PMs. I don't need to be included in any OOC communication, unless you want to talk to me
I myself shall be taking on the role of the old and wise Master of Ceremonies who will guide you through the ancient rite of challenge. All tasks you have to complete will be announced both IC (though that may be somewhat cryptic at times) and also OOC (in this very thread).
I'm going to make up a lot of this as we go along, as, I imagine, will you. If you want this to go completely and utterly silly, it probably will. If you want it to be serious, it probably will be. Let's try and find a balance we can agree on together. If that doesn't work, I will become more dictatorial
But, again: Don't godmod. Also, while slight derivations from the tech-level are fine, please don't go all fantasy/Future Tech on our asses (sorry, TCH ), as I don't think it fits the framework I've layed out. Also, it may be fun to include a little mystic component (if you want), but don't go all wand-waving Harry Potter/Gandalf magic on us.
I think that's enough for now. Any questions?
