An idea was developed not long ago about an idea slightly influenced by the NS Draftroom. This idea is to permit RolePlayers to try and develop their own vehicles and weaponry (be it via making them entirely themselves, or slightly modifying an already-existing item). The objective of this exercise is to motivate users to partake in the design of their own weapons and vehicles within the realm of reality. These may revolve around a mainly text-based technical explication of the user's work, or anything from a 3D model to a hand drawing.
Contrary to the NS Draftroom however, this thread holds the intention to allow users to dream and write up their ideas for their invention, regardless of how in-depth it is, and permit them to be constructively criticized by knowledgeable members of the community (be it from the RPing subforum or not) in order to determine if their idea would actual be realisable in the current IC timeframe. From technical advice to pure help in regards to ideas that a user may have, we aim to advise and aid in all manner and form of ideas that users may be tempted to put forward to the community as a whole.
In order to provide a comprehensively simple guide of what should be done in order to participate in this process, please continue reading the sections below.
The RolePlaying subforums are slightly ahead of the modern time frame. This is most noticeable when it comes to technology, since most of the countries that use our subforum are using the technologies that we estimate will be accessible to our real world in the next 10 years or so. It is under this basis of reality that inventions are immediately subjected to on the RPing subforum: if it can't exist, hasn't existed or won't exist in the next 10 years, then it cannot be used in a MT (Modern Tech) roleplay thread.
This criteria could lead to the argument that we could not possibly foresee all technological innovations that could occur from this date to ten years onwards. The restrictions enforced onto us by this factor will lead to several considerations being took when looking into a case presented by a user: has research ever been lead into the area of work where this project is coming from? did the researchers find any possibilities or, to the contrary, were forced to stop due to the technical limitations of their era?
The large number of variables that need to be taken into account when an examination is performed on a project put forward by an user forces those willing to assist in this thread to review each idea on a case-to-case basis, as to cover all ends of what may of had been put forward. This way, we can always ensure that each user is given the same time and help in his work as the one before him was given.
Once the examination has been lead into the project put forward by the user, a jury composed of the members involved in the study of the invention will choose upon a verdict as soon as they think is necessary. Before this decision is made, the user will be helped with suggestions, ideas and even information being provided to him in order to assist him in the task of making his work more realisable and presentable.
If the jury decides that the idea put forward is technologically feasible, the project is accepted and the user's invention will be immediately granted the authorization to be used in any active MT roleplay thread. Prior to this decision being took, the said invention cannot be used or mentioned in any IC area. Once authorization is granted, it is up the RolePlay Moderators and the experienced community to decide the limitations of what has just been introduced (limits on quantity due to the price, use on different terrains, etc).
In the opposite case, the jury may find the project to be unrealisable in the given IC time period, and the project would be rejected due to the issues that would arise from its existence.
In order to put forward an invention that, in your opinion, should be rendered acceptable for use in the IC threads, the following protocol must be followed:
1. A thread must be started in the Out of Character subforum stating the name of the invention followed by this word: [PENDING]. Simply putting this at either the start or the end of the title will suffice.
2. You must then post in this thread with a link directing to your project. This link (and the project's name) will be stored in the original post of this thread with it's progress marker (Due for Examination, In Examination, Jury Decision...).
3. When experienced users are ready to review the project, all posts concerning changes to be made and advice given are to be posted in this thread. Small posts are to be kept to a minimum: it is far more preferable that smaller details be discussed via private messages, or on skype, in order to make way for more detailed larger posts more capable of summarizing or explaining the finer points of your project.
4. As the jury deliberates regarding the fate of your project, it is requested that no further posts are made from your behalf in this thread unless requested by the earlier mentioned party.
5. When the jury provides a response on the project (in the form of a post on this thread, detailing the reasons for their choice), the following steps are to be taken: if the response is a positive one, you are required to change the [PENDING] in your project's thread title to [ACCEPTED]. In the case that the response is negative, it is to be replaced by a [DENIED]. A member of the roleplaying community will likewise post the jury's decision post on the project's thread as to further validate the invention.
6. In the case that your project was approved, you're all ready to go! All that remains for you to do is to, on your national factbook if required or OoCly, contact the appropriate users in order to determine to what extent your new invention may be used.
This thread, having being approved and granted existence by our RolePlaying moderator, Central Ruska, is the obligatory passing point for any new inventions from this day forward. Failure to pass by this thread when establishing an invention on the forum will result in you being unable to use the said item in an IC thread (in the case in which this is done regardless, the RP moderator will take the necessary actions that he feels are required in the situation).
In the case that your project is denied by the jury, a single appeal may be sent from your part to the active RolePlaying moderator. The decision will then be performed by this said individual in whether his project was fairly treated, or not. In the latter situation, it may be re-applied for examination by a different jury in order to provide a secondary opinion. If the moderator however decides that the project was examined accordingly then the decision of the jury remains standing. In the case in which an appeal is not presented, the jury's decision will remain final to the situation, meaning that the project will not be able to be used ICly.
It should be noted that all projects that may be deemed as satirical or purely impossible (past the point of reality) will be denied immediately and will not even take part in the application process.
So feel free to go ahead and start designing! Reality, and not the sky, is the limit here. And as long as it works, or you can explain realistically how it works, then there shouldn't be anything to stop you.
