Kydonis was originally a small, but powerful island empire by the name of Kydonia that began to conquer nearby islands and submit them to the rule of one man, the Kydon. The Kydon was a man who never revealed his name, age, or face. The large cities of his growing empire portrayed what was allowed to be shown, a man in a white suit wearing a white mask with eye holes and a pointed chin.
He ruled his empire with an iron fist, which, not so coincidentally, was the name of his police force. The Iron Fist routinely kidnapped and executed anyone who spoke out against the Kydon. Anyone who even so much as whispered something ill about the Kydon disappeared within a week, and was usually never seen again.
Sometime later in the Kydon's reign, an Iron Fist raid on an apartment complex resulted in the capture of twelve anti-government activists. Two of those taken, Samuel and Nicole Tyris, were parents of then 15-year-old Ethan Tyris. He was staying with his grandmother during the raid. He remained under her care until his 21st birthday.
He then became an anti-government activist. For reasons not clear, he became the leader of one of the leading organizations attempting to undermine the Kydon. As he continued to direct the group's protests and activities, more and more of the people of Kydonia joined the cause. This caused the Kydon to become furious. He ordered the capture of Ethan at all costs. The subsequent raid on Tyris' HQ ended with 120 activists captured and 42 dead, including Ethan, who died protecting an activist woman of unknown identity from a grenade.
When the public caught wind of the death of Tyris, he instantly became a martyr. More people were rioting than the Iron Fist could deal with. After two weeks, an attack on the Imperial Home was staged. The people were victorious. Before they could reach the Imperial Suite, the Kydon triggered an unknown atomic device, vaporizing half of the capital city. The Kydon's true identity remains unknown to this day.
Ethan Tyris inspired ideas of democracy and civil rights during his life. This led the former leaders of the activists along with 5 million of people from the Empire of Kydonia, to create the Republic of Kydonis (changing the 'a' to an 's' in honor of Tyris). Following ideals set forth by other nations, like the United States of America, Kydonis' government adopted freedom of speech, among other civil rights.
Kydonis is now a largely peaceful nation, but will not hesitate to retaliate if attacked.
