In the central area of the south-eastern waters of the Tenkay Mega-Archipelago lies a large patch of shallow waters, known as the Constelioran Sea. To it's west is a large sea-trench and to it's south and eastern sides is a desert sea floor that slowly declines into the depths. It's northern ridge is also a slow descent, albeit one decorated in forest of sea-plants.
While usually a peaceful sub-continent, tensions here had been rising along with their cause, the sea level. Their ascent was blamed by media and most politicians on the nation-islands in the south-eastern section of it.
These islands were very much like their attitude towards nature; cold and stony. These nations, called the Kalian Isles, were relentless industrialists, with varying levels of democracy. By nature and by culture, their people that worked for the goal of raising Man's architectural, mechanical and physical limits. This meant that, to them, Terra's resources were there to be harvested. While most had jaw-droppingly brilliant feats of Man, automation at it's finest, and efficiency at it's peak, they were a detriment to nature. Their pollution erupted out of their chimneys like floods through a shattered dam wall, and the Green was mowed over to pave the way for new wonderful cities.
While this was a pain in the neck for a long time, ice-caps south of the Constelioran Sea had begun to melt, raising sea levels and slowly sinking some of the flatter isles. It was also messing significantly with wildlife, as any drastic environmental change would.
Least tolerant towards the Kalians was the Republic of Starilia, a nation which had gone to the extreme lengths of banning cars and replacing them with a network of trains, trams and bicycle roads all powered by completely renewable energy sources such as wind turbines because doing otherwise was illegal. It's people were conditioned by it's society to completely respect and care for nature, with many claiming that, as Homo Sapiens is the most advanced existing being, it is our job to care for it. There is even a religion dedicated to Mother Nature! It also sees it's national animal, the Glowing Starfish, as a sacrosanct symbol of it's nation, an animal which was being deeply affected by environmental changes.
Starilia could not abide the current conditions, and it's politicians were quick to call a summit at the Great Debate Hall on Nagor Island at the heart of Tenkay. To it and the most Consteliora's dismay, more powerful and important nations dismissed the case, valuing Kalia's advancements over nature, but unwilling to go against the Core Legislation #183 of the Central Tenkay Union (CTU): To not assist or support the destruction of nature.
Starilia quickly took matters into it's own hands, forming the Constelioran Alliance for Nature (CAN). In response, the Kalian Union for Prosperity (KUP) was formed.
Media went ablaze. Walls of text underpinned the headlines "K vs. C!", "Man or Nature?", or "The Constelioran Crisis Continues!". Half-truths and sometimes even lies enraged the masses on both sides. Things were looking grim.
Despite numerous attempts at peace by the CTU, some kind of confrontation seemed inevitable, and it looked all the more unlikely to happen at the Negotiation Table.
Then, it happened. In the unusually warm 24th day in August, gunshots echoed through Starilia's capital, Astralton. Assassins eliminated Starilia's beloved Secondary Minister, Marty Ore. That was the last straw. The assassins were captured, and found to have Kalian origins. On the 1st of September 3076, Starilia, for it's first time ever, declared war.
