After a week of voting, I am pleased to announce the winner of June 2017 Poet Laureate Contest: Mursilis! Here is their entry, Entry 3:


Ode to the Righteously Victorious

In the darkness one hears a roar,
next the region is midst of war.
But TITO is quite swift,
drinks and tacos uplift,
so Black Hawks & Co. are a bore.

But the rake's sin was to be avenged

For the ghosts of his children elenged

Regaining their breath

And returning from death

The hazards of love are revenged


And though not eligible for the contest because they are not an XKI citizen, Neutrality United submitted this entry:


In life we have this test,

To see which of us is best,

But I don't care,

So I lie there,

And instead I get some rest!

We've had non-eligible entrants in the past, heck we even had a non-eligible winner once. I think that most of the time those entries have been listed separately from the ones that are eligible to win when the voting polls are posted, but we did have one slip by unnoticed until she won.

No, but I included an ineligible submission from a non-citizen in the OP of this thread just to show it.

I happen to be a fan of this practice of allowing us to read more poems, but would also like to see a contest open to non-WA nations and to visitors from other regions.

If the Council could discuss the matter I would be thrilled. I'd be happy to do it myself, but it would be nice if the title carried some air of 'officialness' with it
