Greetings XKI and Happy New Year!
I, Kozmix, am running for the seat of Blue Canaria North Senator this election season and I'm here to persuade you to vote for me. So let's get right to it. But before that, all the best to all the other candidates and the candidates for New Republica South.
Alright. Who am I? As many of you know (I hope), I am a fairly new Islander. I have been in XKI and on NationStates for about two months now. In this time, I have become a recruiter (sending 2500+ telegrams), a buddy, a TITO member, a welcome committee member, the deputy RRC, and very recently the emissary to The Western Isles. I have also attempted to contribute in other facets of XKI, including the Casino and some ideas for the University as well. All in all, since my very first day here, I have tried to be a contributor, and have worked towards making the Islands a better place. As a frequenter in Taco Island as well as the Senate Lobby, there are very few subforums and parts of the Islands that I have yet to see. That being said, I am still learning and will continue to do so. Being the Senator will be a great step in the direction of both learning as well as contributing, to make the Islands a better place.
Why choose me, you ask? Well, if the fact that I have been in almost all arenas that XKI has to offer isn't convincing enough, there is also the fact that a BCN senator does need to have those exact "qualifications": being active on the Islands, being around on most or all facets of it and gathering the interesting and important happenings for the Regional Report. I find that this is an incremental process, from the very first day of the month, because we are a large and active region. I'd like to thank Hakketomat for his amazing tenure as a councilperson, and I definitelywill do my utmost to fill those shoes. Along with the regional report, senators are expected to contribute towards lawmaking and generally work towards contributing towards the betterment of the Islands. This has been my goal since the very beginning and it would be amazing to get this platform to work on these ideas. I believe that a Senator or any Councilperson must be approachable, and that any and every concern of the Islands must be dealt with. That is very true for the current Co9, and I wish to keep that legacy of transparency and approachability very much alive.
What do I have to offer, is also something you must be wondering. Well, there are a few things I would like to look into, including answering embassy requests in a more expedited way, helping setup the University again, restructuring and working on RMB rules and ettiquete, and most of all, bringing in and keeping new Islanders. Let's look at each one of these individually:
1. Embassy Requests: I realize that embassies are a very sensitive matter, but I also realize that it takes quite a while to get them approved. I'm sure each of the steps necessary to approve or reject an embassy request are crucial and might take discussion, but there has to be a way to expedite the process, and I wish to be able to contribute to help that happen a bit quicker.
2. The University: Reforms of the University are already underway, I know. I would also like to partake to help out in this reform, and bring into discussion a few changes that I had in mind regarding length and types of classes and a few other aspects. One of the ideas I definitely did have in mind was a "crash course" on XKI itself. While the details themselves need a lot of discussion, it was aimed at having an experienced Islander get a quick understanding of who we are as a region and an ideology. XKI has a colourful, unique and very interesting history, which would be a delight to spread. Of course, it is still a very rough idea, but I wish to contribute to the University's reform as well.
3. Recruitment and involving new Islanders: Most of my initial ideas, including Sic Bo and a competition for a capital city for XKI have been centered around trying to get new Islanders to get involved in the Islands. The Regional Message Board, which is the first thing that new nations notice, has a very different active community than the forums, where the elections, map and other aspects are present. I recognize the issue and I hope that I will be able to think of a feasible solution or at least bring about the discussion in the Council.
4. RMB rules and ettiquete: I would also like to help work with and modify some of the rules of the RMB, as I think that it delivers a message of strictness that is not intended (I suppose). I know that a certain degree of formality is essential for the RMB, but I think that the current set of rules sets very rigorous boundaries. I'm sure that there is a reason, but I hope I can work towards modifying that.
I do also have other ideas I'd love to run by the Council and work with if given the chance, such as some modifications to the RP board, map rules and XKI sports.
In conclusion, I'd like to say that it would be a dream come true, in some ways, to work towards the betterment of these Islands, my home, in a position in the Council. Not to say that I wouldn't do it regardless, however, the position of a Senator entails that level of involvement and reach, hence making it a much more potent platform for ideas to be created and modeled. Thank you for giving me a shot at that dream. Please feel free to ask me questions and I'd be delighted to address them.
Viva XKI!
