Campaign Statement
Citizens of the 10000 Islands, before I get to the meat of my statement, let me say what a privilege it has been serving as Senator of New Republica South. When I ran for office last time, little did I anticipate that I would actually win. Being at the time a relative newcomer, I had scant idea what was in store for me. Sure, I knew that the scope of my duties included promoting activity in the political parties, but becoming a member of the Council of Nine really hardly occurred to me. That`s when I discovered just how busy these people are. There is far more legislation being debated and voted upon than most citizens are aware of, which entails reading legislation, and you know how much fun THAT is. Not only current legislation, but review and amendment of existing laws. My hat is off to my fellow Council members for their extensive knowledge of the Constitution and by laws, not only pertaining to XKI, but in NS as well.
Now, regarding my own brief time in public service. I can`t say that I`ve accomplished much, certainly not as much as I`d hoped. Compared to that of my predecessor, our current Mayor, the eminent Ater Nox, my deeds pale in comparison. It is true that I monitor the Political Party threads daily, and peruse every new post. I closely scrutinize every new forum member and send an invitation to each one. To date I have extended 83 invitations via the forum, and untold others on RMB. I don't consider my efforts to have yielded much fruit. When I took office I determined that there were 61 active members; today we have 70. I won`t claim that each one enlisted as a result of my efforts, but I am certain a few did. I greet each new inductee personally.
Having said that, in the most recent election, one candidate ran uncontested; the other had an opponent who, alas, dropped out when RL reared its ugly head. When I was elected, 40 voters made it to the polls; this last time, only 28 voted. This despite the fact that I approached each party to urge them to get their people to the polls. My efforts met with little enthusiasm. Clearly I`ve failed the rally either the electorate or the Party heads around the political flag.
Nevertheless, despite my deficiencies as Senator, I am running for re-election. While I understand if I`ve failed to gain the support of my constituents, I can only appeal to those very voters to allow me to continue my thus far fruitless efforts. With their support, perhaps we can accomplish my aims.
