Hello! I am a new member on these forums and NationStates alike. My name is Adrizz, and my nation is The United Socialist States of Hanatara. We wish to make a political party in 10 000 Islands, and therefore we wish to make a socialist party! We arent going to ONLY let in socialists, but we allow everyone.
To make a party however, we need three nations, and we only have two currently. We wish to seek one more member nation to join us, but we can add in as many as possible!
Party President: Adrizz / Hanatara Party Vice President: StarMack / Nightlanders Members: You, potentially
To join, just reply. :insert anime smile emote here:

I'm wholly in favor of adding another party. But two parties have closed in the last quarter due to inactivity. There is more to it than simply participating in elections. Someone has to run for office. You might want to look at this: 10000islands.proboards.com/thread/23183/rules-information-political-parties.

Jabberwocky, which part of the rules say someone has to run for office? Because all I see is this:
An inactive party is one which has: -Fewer than three WA members, and/or -had no posts from current party members in the last 60 days, and/or -party leaders who have failed to reply to the NRS Senator's Forum and NS inquiries for a period of sixty days.
(Admittedly, I'm not sure exactly what the third part entails, so maybe it's in there.)
Political parties must put no less than three candidates up for election each year, leaving the parties open to decide who will run for what senate or delegate seat up to the respective parties. Should one or more party fail to meet this standard, the party or parties in question may be considered inactive and closed at the discretion of the NRS senator.
Which, honestly, unless running the same candidate three times meets the requirement, seems like too high a burden relative to the minimum membership requirements.

Perhaps. But that is nevertheless the law. The two remaining parties manage to run a candidate for virtually every election.

That actually would meet the requirement. Three candidates in one election counts the same as one candidate in three elections, etc.
Also, I imagine that if the party showed activity and ran a candidate at least once, it would not be shut down in its first year if its trajectory was looking up. The rules are not there to stop new parties, but rather to pare down parties that have long-since gone inactive.

That seems fair. Thank you for the clarification, and to Jabberwocky for bringing the issue up initially.
I guess the question then becomes - Nightlanders, Hanatara, are either of you interested in running for office? I don't have time because of school, or I'd offer to run.
Also, in case that was too subtle, yes, I will join this socialist party!
@prudor , I mean, Im not really known to this area, but I will try my best to follow rules and stuff. And yes I will try to run for office, but im going to need help to do that.
Anyways, welcome to the party!

@prudor, understand, I encourage you to start and maintain a party. It was a difficult decision to close WAPP and TDP, one I was not happy about. But whether I agree with the rules or not, they are there for reasons that preexist my arrival here; it's my job to abide by, and enforce, them whether I like it or not. So I wish you good luck and you have my support. Let me know if I can help.

I'll do what I can to help, then. And thanks - I'll head over to HQ in just a minute!

I understand. My criticism was about the law, not a personal issue with you or anyone else. If it came across that way, I'm sorry.
Thanks for the offer of help - I'll definitely keep it in mind if (or, let's be real, when ) we run into any issues.
