Condemn The New Inquisition

A resolution to express shock and dismay at a nation or region.

Category: Condemnation

Nominee (region): The New Inquisition

Proposed By: Cormactopia Prime

The Security Council:

Acknowledging that The New Inquisition is currently dormant, but recognizing the possibility The New Inquisition could rise again to pose a threat to other regions;

Denouncing The New Inquisition for pursuing imperialism through acts of duplicitous subversion, unprovoked aggression, and wanton destruction against peaceful, sovereign regional communities throughout the world, including as a constituent region of the former United Imperial Armed Forces (UIAF);

Reproaching The New Inquisition for once establishing a formal alliance with The Black Riders and maintaining a close military partnership with The Black Hawks, both previously condemned by this Security Council for their acts of regional destruction, acts at times supported by The New Inquisition;

Rebuking The New Inquisition for the following deplorable offenses against interregional peace and goodwill:

• Support for the Crimson Order, a rogue regime led by Lewis and Clark, which perpetrated a more than two month long coup d'etat against the constitutional government of The North Pacific;

• Support for and formal alliance with the Empire, a rogue regime led by Lady Phedre, which perpetrated a more than four month long coup d'etat against the constitutional government of The East Pacific;

• Declaration of war against The North Pacific to support allies the Empire and Gatesville, which had also declared war against The North Pacific;

• Absurd claims of sovereignty over Valhalla, used to rationalize war against the Founderless Regions Alliance (FRA) and its member regions, which once included Lazarus and the Rejected Realms;

• Occupation of Belgium to use as a staging ground for invasion of the Rejected Realms, the latter invasion including the use of involuntary conscripts forced to participate without their knowledge or consent;

• Subversion of the community and government of Lazarus by a senior official of The New Inquisition, without censure from the government of The New Inquisition, ultimately resulting in the expulsion of this official and other citizens of The New Inquisition from Lazarus;

• Support for the Imperium -- a rogue regime led by The dourian embassy, which at the time was controlled by a puppet government answerable to Nevadar and Durkadurkiranistan ii of Gatesville Inc, and which perpetrated a one month long coup d'etat against the constitutional government of Osiris -- providing significant military support and strategic data to deliberately prolong the coup;

• Termination of an alliance with the South Pacific due to ratification of a treaty of mutual defense between the South Pacific and the Rejected Realms, which at the time had a chilling effect on the sovereign right of other prominent allies of The New Inquisition to formalize alliances with Lazarus and the Rejected Realms;

• Assertion of illegitimate claims to sovereignty over Concosia to rationalize war against the United Defenders League (UDL), following attempts by the UDL to liberate Concosia from forced colonization by The New Inquisition;

• Use of wars against the FRA and the UDL to rationalize invasion and occupation of countless regions throughout the world, often with little or no actual connection to the FRA or the UDL, including but by no means limited to the following regions that have previously endured UIAF occupation: The True Rebirth, Middle Earth, New Zealand, Australia, Slavia, Scotland, Slavya, Canada, and Eastern Europe;

Declaring The New Inquisition to be among the most belligerent and dangerous regions in world history, and desiring to place an enduring censure upon the actions of its bellicose, imperialist regime;

Hereby Condemns The New Inquisition.

I'm inclined to support the condemnation, but I do take a bit of pause in how little time this was left in the SC forum for review / discussion. I understand that the author, and most voters, will see this as a no-brainer, but there are a lot of vague implications peppered through the text like 'support for' and 'subversion of' without explaining exactly how TNI (or who in TNI) carried out these acts. A similar (almost identical) version of this proposal was submitted by the author years ago and was defeated, much of it being deemed 'misleading'. The author also had some previous interaction with the region and there may be a personal axe to grind.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but since this is an ex post facto condemnation, and since it will become the historic record of the region, I would have liked more discussion and more precision.

That said, there is enough on the record to justify condemning the region. Voting for.

The resolution's account of the New Inquisition is accurate, although quibbles with various details are to be expected. My only question is why do this now? TNI is a shell of its former self and most of the events recounted here are many, many years old.

Less influence, I guess? A quick search shows that there has only been one other attempt that was widely supported as an idea (although not by Cormac, funnily enough), but was poorly written.

Cormac cited a greater likelihood of it passing now, given the change in the NS landscape versus when it was originally submitted, as the reason for putting it up for vote at this time. I think it's just an effort to finish the job of condemning started 4 years ago

My guess is because the influence imperialist regions had throughout NS has waned enough to allow it a decent chance to pass. On another note, TNI has put out a dispatch to counter the resolution that I'll link here so we can discuss it.

This is exactly why I'm a little hung up on this one. There was such a massive backlash against the condemn in 2005, and this is essentially the same document as that one. A lot of time has passed, a lot of the players involved have CTE'd, and is this just a case of throwing something at the wall every few years until it sticks? There was so much power-brokering and back-channel dealing taking place among regions during the era, that a lone person's take on these events may not be the best service to the historic record.

I still think there's enough wrongdoing to justify a condemnation, but I'm not 100% sure this should be the proposal that does it.

As mentioned above, the proposal's account of the New Inquisition's worldview and history are accurate. We are talking about a very extended timeline in the events covered in the text, however. TNI's 'war' against the FRA, the Valhalla dispute, the Crimson Order, and Gatesville related drama would have been around 2006-2008. The most recent events here are the UIAF and TBR ties, which would have been what, at least five years ago. The region itself is now inactive, founderless, and locked. I'm curious why Cormac is doing this now (this will be different from why he states he's doing it now).

It's worth emphasizing the cynical, deliberate, and often brutal and over the top nature of TNI's imperialism and invaderism. TNI made its mark by 'declaring war' against the FRA and other defender organizations. These were always mere pretexts to justify what its founders referred to as 'aggressive military actions' or 'military activity' -- it fueled their rise on the world stage and gave them a schtick for recruiting purposes and internal organization.

TNI was notable for trying to colonize and permanently seize its regions to an abnormal extent, which included uncommonly brutal treatment of natives and innocents. Innocent, founderless regions were not so much targeted for their own sake as used as hostages in these publicity-generating campaigns. It's involvement in GCR politics and international intrigue reflected the slow migration and ambitions of its members.

TNI certainly deserves to be condemned for its actions and will not view one as a 'badge of honor.' My only real issue is why now. This is kind fo stale for the SC to be considering at this time.

You must be referring to the 2015 resolution (we didn't have condemnations back in 2005). It's true that the imperialist-aligned regions would have had the strength to fend off a condemnation four years ago, at any rate.

Thank you Klop for your insight. It's very succinct and very well appreciated . At any rate, it would seem that this may have a chance at passing. Right now, as always, I'm voting according to the forum vote. It does make me wonder why Cormac did it now though, maybe he was just bored? I think there's been some bad blood between him and LKE/imperialists lately too.

TNI's founder is indeed a woman and not Cormac. One of the few NS players I've met in real life.

There's also no way their members would turn over control to someone like Cormac.
