I think Svetlana refused to try again, but I could be wrong. About the Hamm incident, he's keeping the gold, but I thought exactly about Salt Lake. He still had the greatest comeback in history and I hope he doesn't let that "taint" his medal. Anyways, in Peirsol's race his friend Markus Rogan was second, of Austria. At least, in the race I think you're thinking about. I agree, some people are disappointed with Phelps for the two bronze medals, but they don't understand ONE bronze is a fabulous achievement. I was really amazed by his sportsmanship to give Crocker his spot in the relay... Congrats to him!

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. You go home with a bronze, you go home with the knowledge that you are the third best person in the world at whatever you won for. And in the Peirsol thing, Rogan went nuts when they DQed him. He was calling BS just as loudly as Peirsol. I think Austria withdrew their challenge at Rogan's insistence, but Britain's challenge stands. Could be wrong though.

Yeah, I guess it was that the Brit came in 4th and would have gotten bronze if Peirsol was disqualified, that's why they're complaining. I was pretty sure Svletlana wasn't allowed to do her vault over, but I could be wrong, too. She did the same vault here at Athens and nailed it, but they only gave her like a 9.3. I thought they gave Svletlana lower scores than shee deserved on some of her events, like the vault. Oh, well. Carly Patterson was good, too. And of course they're letting Hamm keep the gold, I guess it's just a matter of whether they allow the Korean guy to share the gold medal. But I don't see what the big deal about Phelps not getting 8 gold medals is. For heavens sake, he still got 6 gold and 2 bronze. Like Yups said, bronze still means there are only 2 people better than you in the world, and that would be great, in my opinion. It's not like he promised he'd get 8 or anything, it was all the media that started that up.

I totally agree. However, Svetlana is not gaining any respect from me, because she is saying it was fully loaded in Carly's favor. Maybe she got one score a little low, but that doesn't deserve her trashing Carly Patterson like she has been. Other news, with Justin Gatlin winning the 100 meters and beating out the self-proclaimed "greatest runner of all time", I think that someone with that kind of ego didn't deserve gold. If you talk the talk you have to walk the walk, or in this case, run the run. Unlike Phelps, he himself ccreated his hype, and simply didn't get the gold. As I said before, a bronze is nothing to sneer at, but he was so assured of himself without a worry.

I haven't watched the Olympics at all, so can someone clue me in?
Hamms or Hamm, or whatever his name is, is being asked to give up his gold medal because of a gliche in the scoring. The gold medal is apparently supposed to go to the South Korean, who has the bronze.
I don't know how the South Korean feels, nor how Hamm(s) feels - but what do you guys think?
As some people were saying previously, it'd be great to win a medal in the Olympics, regardless. But seriously now, the "best" person has to be awarded the right medal! At least, I think so. The "best" meaning the one who put on the best performance.

Well, the problem is, the FIG can't change it, so it all goes to Paul Hamm. Paul watched the routine again (the one where the judges messed up) and saw .2 points that could be deducted but weren't. The technical judges, their problem was that they didn't give the starting number at 10, they gave it at 9.9. They figured this out after they looked at the tapes after the medals had been awarded, which is against the rules of international gymnastics. I think that at most they should award two gold medals, but not make Paul give his away.
