I posted this in the National Maps thread already, but I think it's worth posting here again:

Recognizing that I do not have a claim on said island, nor any near-future hope of acquiring it (sitting at 6 million right now), I have made two maps of the island southeast of Exal's (were I to own it):

Regions and Local Seas/Etc.



Geography/Topography and National/Regional Capitals

I haven't come up with names for the capitals yet.

Machia is the northwest region, known for its vast deposits of mineral wealth.

Verusia is the southwest region, known for its quiet woodlands and many brooks and streams. Lake Sedra sits on its eastern border with Polerta.

Polerta is primarily a grassland region, with the Kretagan Marshland surrounding its capital by its border with Leomes.

Castrum is the capital city/region, which is primarily industrialized. The port city of Vallara serves as its hub for supplying the entire country via the many shipping routes around the island nation.

Heraia is the picturesque island region, noted both for its sandy beaches and its local volcano, Mount Juteka.

Leomes is a region segmented many times over by numerous rivers, with a mix of trees and brushland scattered in-between; its capital is the second-largest city on Castrios.

Muotura is a very mountainous region, similar to Machia, however, its mineral wealth was depleted long ago; its key features are Lake Myra and a unique species of tree called Phoenixwood, which has bright-red foliage year-round and has been utilized for both commercial and military purposes to make things burn much quicker (and hotter) than normal.

Juraja is the jungle region, sparsely-inhabited, but teeming with scientists and explorers eager to make a name for themselves, searching for ancient lost cities and tribes in the dense undergrowth. There was a large amount of interest in the past regarding the wealth to be gained from development of a local forestry industry, but environmentalists prevented this plan from coming to fruition.

Hynega serves primarily as an early-warning base for military operations, with various villages and outposts scattered across its length. Its capital houses the largest naval base in Castrios.

Olnega is similar to Hynega, except that its focus is primarily mining and weapons development. Olnega's capital enjoys semi-autonomy within Castrios, which allows the region to generate vast amounts of trade despite being so remote.
