Welcome to the embassy of Yggdrasil
After recent elections, three new members were elected to Yggdrasil's Council. Incumbent Epaiteia held off a strong campaign by Illumina Dei to maintain control of the Aesir senate seat, while Pyshoria fought back from a third place showing in February Chancellor (delegate) elections to claim the Vanir senate seat. Relative newcomer Travancore-Cochin (Trav-Coch) was elected the region's first Development Minister. He brings with him a knowledge of working roleplay, and a long list of ideas to stimulate our roleplay section. Congratulations to all nations on a successful election campaign. This gives us a full seven-member council for the first time in Yggdrasil history. The positions are as follows: Regional Chief Executive (founder): Goddess Relief Office Lord Chancellor (delegate): Veilyonia Senator (Aesir): Epaiteia Senator (Vanir): Pyshoria Interior Minister: RedIron Foreign Affairs Minister: Zybodia Development Minister: Travancore-Cochin

Following senator and development minister elections this summer, and the just-concluded delegate elections, the Yggdrasil Council of Elders again stands a member short of full capacity, after King Lionheart IV traded his Aesir seat for that of Lord Chancellor. This recent round of elections was not widely contested, with only King Lionheart IV's senatorial run seeing an opponent, then-newcomer Tacobendria, now a resident of Wysteria. In addition to Lionheart rejoining the council, Trav-Coch was reelected Development Minister after a widely successful first term, and Illumina Dei was elected senator for the first time.
Due to a change in the elections schedule, we are scheduled to have a senatorial election very soon, so the Aesir seat will remain vacant until then. Our current government officials are:
Regional Chief Executive (founder): Goddess Relief Office Lord Chancellor (delegate): Veilyonia Senator (Aesir): (vacant) Senator (Vanir): Illumina Dei Interior Minister: RedIron Foreign Affairs Minister: Zybodia Development Minister: Travancore-Cochin

Nothing much happening in Yggdrasil except the following:
- An alliance treaty was recently signed with Liberty Alliance. This makes LA the 4th active ally after Land of Vegetables, 10KI, and Texas.

Volume 2, Issue 3 | May 2010 YDS routs invaders at Eden, A Silly Place, Phrygia and Eastern EuropeThe last two weeks have proven to be a remarkable fortnight for the Yggdrasil Defense Service (YDS) as it was engaged in four back-to-back successful missions in Eden, A Silly Place, Phrygia and Eastern Europe. It was also the busiest period of activity in the history of the YDS, and the first time the Valhalla Regiment saw action. Two missions were carried out by the YDS alone, whereas the other two were carried out along with established defenders such as TITO and the Global Right Alliance (GRA). The Field Commander of the YDS, GRO, spotted invader activity in the tiny founderless region of Eden on 28 April and deployed the YDS promptly. The two nations which tried to take delegacy were opposed by a 6-man strong force from the YDS led by the Field Commander herself. After failing at Eden, the same invaders fled to A silly place, hoping to take it over. Determined to not let this happen, the YDS followed them to that region to find TITO already deployed, and the combined forces of Yggdrasil and the 10000 Islands foiled the raid. Frustrated, the raiders "walked through" Yggdrasil which, in Foreign Minister Zybodia's words, meant "moving here [to Yggdrasil] and getting banjected almost immediately by GRO." On April 10th, Phrygia came under attack and a 7-member YDS force led by Elici was deployed. The newly drafted Valhalla Regiment was mobilized too, taking the total troop strength to 9. The invaders were soundly beaten and after the quick mission, the YDS was in the process of returning home when they were deployed again to thwart an attempted raid at Eastern Europe. In this mission, the YDS was joined by the GRA Defence Force (GRADF). After waiting a while to give the native delegate, Flobos, a chance to remove the invaders, the YDS took the delegacy with help from TITO and removed the remaining invaders. Forum sports a new lookYggdrasil's forum got a new look for the summer. The new theme, Golden Sun, was added by the Regional Chief Executive GRO to bring the brightness of summer to the forum. The theme received near-universal appreciation from Yggdrasilians, who saw it as a break from the mundane Stone Grey, the default theme. The colour scheme of the new theme is similar to that of Mocha Lite, the regular alternative to Stone Grey. Although the RCE has stated that she intends to keep it only for the summer, it is expected that the theme might eventually become a regular alternative, given the adulation it received from both Yggdrasilians and guests alike. Valhalla gets a new homeValhalla got a separate section dedicated to it within the Yggdrasil forums last month. This was necessitated by an upturn in the region's activity, with many new enthusiastic members joining the region. Earlier, the region's population had hit the highest mark in its history. Initially, the new section was used by Valhallans to discuss what form of regional government they wanted to adopt. Later, as a consensus formed on the issue, the new section became more elaborate, with the addition of several subsections to house their new government. Valhallans were also welcomed into the YDS with them forming the Valhalla Regiment, a new unit within the same. Yggdrasil Cup to start this weekendThe much awaited Yggdrasil Cup is scheduled to start this weekend. The complete fixture was published by Zybodia a couple of days ago, according to which there will be weekly play-offs between teams. The registration period of the event had closed long ago, in February. The Herald has learnt that it was delayed thus far due to RL issues. In the interim, three team owners have left Yggdrasil, orphaning their respective teams. As a result of this, Zybodia will be taking claims on them until the start of play. It is understood that both Yggdrasilians and foreigners can apply. Eleven teams will join the defending champions, Zybodia's Pharallyx Basin Blues, in their quest to win the Cup. The twelve competing teams are divided into 3 Pods - A, B and C, and weekly playoffs will take place within each Pod. Silvadus, Pyshoria, Auremena, Chevaux de Frise and Korros are all confirmed participants, whereas Deukalionnic Republics and Shadowtech Demons are no longer in Yggdrasil and thus, will not participate. The three teams owned by them can be claimed by others before play begins. Trav-Coch has been designated as the official host for the tournament for providing 4 stadia in which matches will be hosted. Bilateral relations established with Global Right Alliance and United IndiaForeign Affairs Minister Zybodia, in consultation with the Council of Elders, has decided to establish bilateral relations with Global Right Alliance and United India. While Global Right Alliance is an established defender region and is one of the founding members of the Founderless Regions' Alliance (FRA), United India is a relatively new region with an active and vibrant community, founded by nations who left [region]India[/region]. Activity restoredAlthough unspecified computer issues kept the Lord Chancellor out of the forums for two weeks, the Regional Chief Executive stepped in for him and polled the region on WA resolutions, restoring much needed activity in the regional WA chamber. Here's how the region voted on the latest resolutions: GA: Repeal "A Promotion of Basic Education": AGAINST (4), For (0) SC: Commend The Joint Systems Alliance: FOR (2), Abstain (1), Against (0) (as at close of poll)

Volume 2, Issue 4 | June 2010 Yggdrasil faces mid-June crisis; Emergency narrowly avertedYggdrasil faced its greatest governmental crisis after its refounding in mid-to-late 2007, as a majority of Council members, including the newly elected Senators decided to take a break from its activities without expressly informing it. Sources tell The Herald that some members have only been active when the Regional Chief Executive GRO persuaded them to be via telegram and that this behaviour had been exhibited since April. GRO was reportedly said to be "fed up" with certain individual Councillors and their continual transgressions. Tensions reached a high point around mid-June after none of these Councillors responded to a trivial discussion started in the Council chambers to discuss this problem. GRO then went on the RMB and asked citizens to prepare for a state of emergency so that she can remove the errant members and reorganize the government. "The reason I am bringing this out into the open is because I feel that since many of these people were elected, you the voters deserve to know what's going on. And I don't want anybody to be surprised if I have to use emergency powers to rearrange the cabinet," her announcement said. The Councillors then promptly came back on, apologizing for their mistake and pledging to be more involved in the governance of the region, thereby averting a state of emergency. Elections to the office of the Development Minister are scheduled to be held in a couple of weeks, and it will be interesting to see whether this crisis will have any bearing on the outcome of that. Best Flag contest results announcedThe results for the Regional Best Flag Contest 2010, conducted jointly by Yggdrasil and 10000 Islands were announced on 16th June. From the Yggdrasil group, Silvadus emerged the winner with 14 votes. Drubbing came in second with 11 votes and Quadrimmina secured the third place with 10 votes. A total of 130 votes were cast from both Yggdrasil and 10000 Islands. Silvadus and Drubbing received cash prizes of 10,000 and 3,000 florins each, while all participants from Yggdrasil got a commemorative pin made by the Regional Chief Executive herself. Elici, Quadrimmina elected to the CouncilLast month's Senatorial race saw Elici and Quadrimmina elected to the Council from the seats of Aesir and Vanir, respectively. Elici who is a member of the YDS and has been fairly active in the role-play scene was elected over the relatively new ShirayukiM, who had been active in Grand Central as a Councillor there. Quadrimmina, on the other hand, was elected unopposed from Vanir. The results are in line with Yggdrasil's long-running traditions of electing unopposed candidates without significant opposition (one can vote against unopposed candidates) and electing the more familiar of the two candidates. Out of the nine total votes cast for the Vanir seat poll, Quadrimmina found the favour of seven, while two votes were cast against him. In Aesir, Elici got seven of the eight votes cast, while ShirayukiM got one. Vanir's incumbent Senator Pyshoria had declined to run for a second term, his third overall. Trav-Coch, the previous Senator for Aesir, had left office mid-term since he got promoted to the post of Interior Minister. Public servants are constitutionally prevented from holding more than one office. The new members of the Council had their terms begin on the 31st of May, and are expected to serve through September. The Yggdrasil Disaster Center gets goingThe Yggdrasil Disaster Center, the role-play aspect of the new regional map created by Cartographer General Silvadus, started functioning earlier this month. The concept was originally devised back in January during Tyrtania's reign as Development Minister. The Cartographer General had indicated interest in the idea when he was in the process of designing the new map, and had promised to get it implemented once it was complete. Role-players in Yggdrasil have reacted favourably to the addition and it is expected to spur RP activity in the days to come. Inactivity grips the WA Chamber yet againYggdrasil's WA Chamber gathered dust and cobwebs in the past month as Lord Chancellor RedIron was rendered out of service due to family matters. Senator Quadrimmina, the RCE and the Interior Minister had all expressed concerns over this issue, at some point or another. On the bright side, a small section of the Chamber dedicated to proposals became abuzz with activity, as several proposals including an improved version of Senator Quadrimmina's failed proposal, Medical Research Ethics Act; improvements to the ready-to-submit Commendation of Texas, which had been sitting in the proposal section for over half-a-year; and a tongue-in-cheek Commendation of Anime were discussed.

Volume 2, Issue 5 | July 2010 Defenders score major victory in South America; YDS plays crucial roleA defender coalition led by the 10000 Islands successfully defended South America against an invader force, in what was the largest battle since Rajahland in 2008. The invader force, which included troops from The New Inquisition; Unknown; The Land of Kings and Emperors and The Dominion, was led by Blakestar. Yggdrasil's very own YDS played a crucial role in the defender operation by supplying the second largest number of troops from a single region. The invasion began as a flash raid on June 27 at the second (1600 hrs GMT) update, which was stopped by TITO. However, since Luchyen, the sitting native delegate whom the defenders endorsed, was inactive at the time, the invaders saw an opportunity to force a showdown and continued to lay siege after the initial update. Seeing this development, Field Commander GRO gave YDS the order to mobilize. Accordingly, 9 members from YDS and the Valhalla Regiment were deployed to support the defending troops. Through the rest of the day, both sides called in reinforcements. But, the invaders secured more troops and outnumbered the defenders by as much as 10 troops at one point. TITO then declared a Red Alert to mobilize non-TITO 10000 Islanders. Other defenders such as the FRA and Texas' TDF were also called in for assistance. In the run-up to the first update of June 28, the defenders closed down the gap, and in an exciting finale at update time, tied with the invaders with both the sitting delegate and the invader lead having 50 endorsements each. The tie went to the sitting delegate as per game mechanics and the raid was thus foiled. This was the turning point of the mission. Afterwards, defender troops who had missed the initial action poured in, and by the second update of June 28, the endo count read 96 - 66 in favour of the defenders, resulting in a major victory for them. Yggdrasil's own YDS played a crucial part in securing defender victory at South America by contributing 9 troops to the 49-member defence team during the first update of June 28, the second largest contribution of troops after TITO during that update. Although the FRA would hold this honour for subsequent updates, Yggdrasil still provided the second largest no. of troops from a single region overall - ten, with the addition of Saint Monica during the exit phase. In recognition of the valour of all 10 YDS troops involved, Regional Chief Executive GRO conferred on them a special medal, the South America Defense Medal, in a special ceremony after the battle. Election declaration period concludesThe declaration period for elections to the offices of the Lord Chancellor and the Development Minister have concluded. Iron Boiler, Greater Tern and South Titania will all contest for the Chancellorship, while Silvadus, who is also the Cartographer General, is the sole contender for the office of the Development Minister. South Titania is a veteran of the region known for his witty RMB quips and his longstanding wild squirrel chase; Greater Tern is a YDS member who had taken part in several missions, including South America; whereas Iron Boiler is a fairly recent addition to Yggdrasil noted for his role-play. Korros mulls creation of new political outfitKorros has been working toward the creation of a new political outfit named Lauss, The Herald learns. Besides Korros, DeukalionnicRepublics, Deva Lif, Tyrtania and Elici are also said to support the new outfit. The Herald has also learnt that Ratatoskr (Oskr), Ulthar's Ambassador to Yggdrasil who runs the successful ODesign, Inc. company, was approached by Korros to design a custom logo for the political outfit. As per the Constitution, anyone can form a political party, provided that it has 3 WA Members in it. RedIron removed from Chancellorship due to inactivity; Apology posted by "Ashley" claims he's fighting for life after car crashRegional Chief Executive GRO removed RedIron from his position as the Lord Chancellor due to continued inactivity on his part. The removal was done in accordance with the Constitution, after a Senator and a Minister concurred with her decision. Soon after the announcement, an apology was posted on the forums by an individual named "Ashley", using RedIron's forum account, claiming that he (RedIron) was involved in a car accident and is fighting for life. The Herald has learnt from highly-placed sources that GRO herself was highly unsatisfied with RedIron's recurring bouts of inactivity and the reasons he gave for the same each time. Last month, GRO had threatened to declare a state of emergency in Yggdrasil due to the inactivity of several Council members. RedIron had then posted that he was back to carry out his duties, after apologizing to GRO and to the Council. Immediately after that post, he went inactive yet again, logging in neither to his NS nation nor his forum account. The Herald learns that this was the last straw; and GRO, in consultation with a Minister and a Senator, invoked powers granted by the Constitution to remove RedIron from Chancellorship, and called for new elections to be held along with elections to the post of the Development Minister. However, the final twist came on July 15, when an individual named "Ashley," who identified themselves as RedIron's offspring, logged in to his account and posted an apology for his inactivity. Ashley said that RedIron was involved in a car accident early in July. The injuries he sustained were described as being "life threatening" and he is said to be still in hospital. Ashley also asked all Yggdrasilians to pray for RedIron's recovery. Since then, there has been no activity in his forum account or his NS nation, and his current condition is unknown. Minor changes to the ForumYggdrasil's forums underwent a minor resrtucturing exercise as per the discussions of the Interior Minister with the Regional Chief Executive and other Councillors. Notable changes include renaming of the NationStates Interregional forum to NationStates International; splitting IC and OOC events into separate forums and relocating the Role Play Administration to the Technical and Help Center.

GRO : Hello, and welcome to the first Yggdrasil/Valhalla Interview series where we sit down with everyday folks behind the nations that make up our beloved region. Today I am pleased to welcome our first guest, South Titania! He is Yggdrasil's Chancellor. ST, thank you for sitting down with me. ST : Thank you GRO! Always a pleasure to be interviewed by someone awesome . GRO : So to start, where and when did you discover Nationstates? ST : I first came across Nationstates way back in 2004. Found it while I was looking for some political simulators similar to "Shadow President" (a great game btw). GRO : Was Yggdrasil your first region? Or should I say, what brought you come to Yggdrasil? ST : No. In fact, it's been so long.. I can't even remember which was my first region. This isn't my first nation either. Yggdrasil was just the optimal size for a region; and I found a very active community who extended a warm welcome to me. This made me decide that no matter what happens, I'd stick to this region for good. GRO : Why did you choose the name that you did for your nation? ST : That's a complex answer. To answer your question, my first nation was called "New Rossyth"; based on the game Frontier: First Encounters. New Rossyth was a giant corporation in the game. This would probably explain my nation's capitalistic leanings. But anyway, after New Rossyth dropped out due to me being inactive and since Titania was taken, I decided to go with South Titania. And why not North Titania? It was just to roleplay my nation's history, where the South sinks the North in a bloody war. GRO : Hey! That sounds fun! Did you create North Titania too? Or was it taken? ST : Good guess, I did create that as well. It went extinct too , academics kept getting in my way. GRO : *sips tea* Can you explain your flag? ST : Saturn has always fascinated me. A beautiful serene giant, so far out into the night; it stands there in the sky, millions fascinated by it's unique rings. It's a testament to the still to be discovered marvels in our universe. The flag emphasizes the need for mankind to go forth, experiment and explore. There are many more wonders like Saturn waiting for us out there. GRO : Who were the first Yggdrasilians you met? ST : My apologies, my memory fails me here. But if I'm not mistaken, the first people I met were you , Lionheart, Zybodia, Epaiteia, Illumina Dei and of course my arch-nemesis Oskr. GRO : Before we get into your role as Chancellor, have you held any other posts in the region before your current assignment? ST : No, though I did want to play a more active role, I really didn't have enough time on my hands. An inactive senator or chancellor is not something I wanted to be. GRO : Where were you born? Are you still there? ST : I'm an Indian , but I was born and brought up in Saudi Arabia. I reside in India at the moment, but spent the majority of my childhood in Saudi Arabia. GRO : Its great to know you have been travelling. What do you like most about India? Do you miss Saudi Arabia? ST: Unity in diversity; thousands of different identities and cultures in India somehow meld to form the world's largest democracy. And yeah, I do miss Saudi Arabia; life's very peaceful over there, and the food is quite good. GRO : Are you a student? If yes, where do you go to school? If not, what do you do for a living? ST : Well, if you had asked this question 2 years ago, then yes... I would have answered that I was an engineering student. Alas , those days of fun are over, and I'm now just another IT Professional who designs web applications for a living. GRO : What's your favorite food? ST : Pizza! GRO : What kind of pizza? ST: Uh..what was that called, Quattro Stagioni? Well, I think that's the type of Pizza that's my favourite, or I'm confusing that with Margherita. GRO : What is your favorite color? ST : Blue GRO: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go? ST : Japan , that country fascinates me a lot with it's rich culture and heritage. Oh yeah, manga and anime too GRO: Hey! That's an answer I like a lot. You know I'm a big anime fan! So have you been to Japan? Making plans? ST: Nope, never been to Japan. I have tried to learn the language, and I can identify a few alphabets; it's been the most challenging language I've come across. I don't have any immediate plans of going to Japan, but yes.. someday. GRO: What is your dream job? ST : To be an astronaut , I'd love to fly to the International Space Station one day. GRO: Can you give me one word to describe yourself? Why? ST : Reserved. I prefer to listen most of the time, and not open my mouth unnecessarily. GRO : That's a trait I admire. I think in this world we live in today, too many people are trying to speak all at once... we lack good listeners and thinkers. GRO : If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be? ST : Flowering Staples! . Ok, seriously..it would be the Wright Brothers. How in heaven they managed to come up with something that flies is beyond me. I'd love to make something similar to that, something that can travel faster than light. GRO : Back to regional life, what is the best thing about Yggdrasil in your opinion? ST : The community of course! Everyone's friendly here, and the councilmen are giving it 110% to keep this region active and vibrant, and to say nothing of the effort that you GRO have put in personally. GRO : How do you feel about the WA Commend and Condemn resolutions? ST : As of late, several regions have started to abuse the "Condemn" type of resolutions by trying to earn credit for actions that have had little to no impact on NS in general. What's sad about these resolutions is that the majority of independent nations simply go out on a limb and vote without a second thought into the Condemned region's background. I personally am disgusted by this, and hope the WA would block such frivolous condemnations. Commend on the other hand, has not been abused for the most part. I can safely say most of the commendations have been made in good judgment. GRO : Have you gotten to know many people from the game outside of the forum or Nationstates? ST : Alas , no. Not even one to be precise. I wish I could meet one someday. GRO : Who are your best friends, or who do you like on Yggdrasil? ST : That's a tough question to answer, I have no particular fancy towards anyone, except maybe for my arch-nemesis Oskr. Everyone has been friendly on an equal footing with me, I'd like to keep it that way. No favouritism here. GRO : Is there anything else you want to tell us before we conclude this session? ST : Well, I hope that my current tenure as Chancellor has been satisfactory so far, and I would gladly welcome any suggestions/criticisms . That is all for now. Thank you for this interview GRO. Now, can we please go raid Oskr? GRO : LOL no I don't think so. Besides, Oskr is heavily armed. That concludes our interview, thanks for your time.

Volume 2, Issue 6 | October 2010 Due to certain issues not under our control, there were no editions of The Herald dated August and September 2010. We sincerely regret and apologize for the interruption. Illumina Dei wrests Aesir from Elici; Pyshoria overcomes stiff challenge to retake VanirThird time proved just as lucky for both Illumina Dei and Pyshoria as were the first two times. In the recently-concluded Senatorial polls, Yggdrasilians voted these two veterans of the Council back on board. They were elected to the Council from the Aesir and the Vanir seats, beating incumbent Elici and newcomer Risortia respectively. This election also marks the first time in Yggdrasil's electoral history that an incumbent was voted out of power. September's Senatorial elections had a delayed start due to certain limitations imposed upon the Regional Chief Executive. The time for declaration was one week starting from the 20th of September and the polls opened on the 29th. Aesir's incumbent Elici had a challenger in Illumina Dei while the vacant Vanir had both Pyshoria and newcomer Risortia contesting for it. Incidentally, Pyshoria's candidacy was facilitated by a typographical error on Regional Chief Executive GRO's part. As per the Constitution, the elections are to last just one week from the start. By the time the polls were supposed to close, Aesir had a clear winner in Illumina Dei, who had successfully removed Elici from power, making him the first person ever in Yggdrasil to defeat an incumbent seeking a successive term. However, results of the Vanir seat threw a surprise, with both the more established Pyshoria and relative newcomer Risortia tied at 7 votes each. To break the tie, the voting period was extended by 7 more days. Till the 5th day, there appeared to be no change in the vote count of either candidate and a Council vote to break the tie was widely expected, as had been done earlier in April when the Ministerial election threw up a similar result. But beating all expectations, Pyshoria gathered two more votes in the last two days to emerge as the winner for Vanir. Both Pyshoria and Illumina Dei had been on the Council as Senators twice before and both of them had represented Vanir during their respective terms. Co-incidentally, both of them contested each other for the same Vanir seat back in January. Pyshoria had won back then after Illumina Dei pulled out due to unspecified reasons. As a token of his appreciation, the Lord Chancellor has proposed to give the boot to the new Senators. Both of them seem to have acknowledged (if not accepted) the appreciation. New Interview Series offers insight into the lives of well-known YggdrasiliansRegional Chief Executive GRO recently started an interview series where she sits down with and gets to know better about the more famous people of Yggdrasil. Titled, "Afternoon Tea with GRO," the interview seeks to explore the conviction and drive of those who contribute positively to the region. The first person to get interviewed was Lord Chancellor South Titania, who revealed his long history in NS, some personal favourites, his views about the region and the WA and a secret crush on Liberty Alliance's Prime Minister, Flowering Staplers. The interview series was received postively in Yggdrasil. It is not known, however, how often would these interviews be published. Council adopts Military Conscription ActThe government of Yggdrasil, the Council of Elders, has passed the Military Conscription Act giving the Lord Chancellor and the Regional Chief Executive the power to draft non-YDS WA nations into the YDS. The act was passed by the Council on 22 October and came into effect the very same day. The act confers upon the Regional Chief Executive and the Lord Chancellor emergency power to draft non-YDS WA nations in Yggdrasil into the YDS in defense of allied regions and other regions which have either requested the YDS' help, or are being defended presently by YDS. However, the Act also states that non-YDS WA nations will not be penalized for not responding to the call. The fate of YDS nations which do not deploy is unspecified. Chancellery at an all-time high, thanks to South TitaniaAfter a long period of dormancy under RedIron, the Chancellery has been rejuvenated largely due to the efforts of long-time Yggdrasil resident South Titania, who was elected to the post back in late July. Not only has the Yggdrasil WA Chamber become a hotbed of activity in the past few months, but the combined efforts of GRO and South Titania had also led to him becoming the highest endorsed delegate in Yggdrasil's history - with 70+ endorsements - making Yggdrasil highly influential in the WA. At present, his endo count stands at 64. Here's how the region voted on the latest resolutions: GA: Delineation of Borders Act: FOR (3), Against (2) SC: Commend Trav khar: AGAINST (6)(as at close of poll) Korros to host Ice Hockey TournamentKorros has announced that he is planning to organize an Ice Hockey Tournament "in the interest of promoting friendly competition and the spirit of human excellence". All Yggdrasilians are free to enter their teams into the tournament, the registration to which involves choosing up to two "strengths" and "weaknesses" per team. The deadline for registering is November 1.

It's been quite some time since Yggdrasil has had an active Embassy here in 10000 Islands. Our newsletter isn't currently active, so unfortunately I won't be able to share one with you this month. The good news is that there's been rumblings within the region regarding its rebirth, so we'll see where those rumblings take us, if anywhere, next month. As there's no newsletter this month, and as our Embassy is in woeful shape, I'd like to take this opportunity to release a primer concerning the current state of Yggdrasilian affairs. Without further ado, let's dig right into it. GovernmentRegional Chief Executive (founder): Goddess Relief OfficeLord Chancellor (delegate): Canadian DavslandSenator (Aesnir): VrolondiaSenator (Vanir): AlyekraInterior Minister: South TitaniaForeign Affairs Minister: ZybodiaDevelopment Minister: SilvadusElection season has swung around once again, and this time it's Silvadus up for re-election. Election for the Development Minister's seat has been frozen for a long time; the seat hasn't been contested since August 2011. With the region climbing back to our normal population size, elections are now back on schedule. Alyekra recently formed the Autonomy Bloc, which aspires to become a full-fledged political party within the region. The Autonomy Bloc has laid its foundation on the belief that each nation should have the right to self-govern. While not opposed to international cooperation or multinational organizations, the AutBloc believes that such cooperations and organizations should serve to protect the rights of the individual member nations rather than control or disenfranchise them. The AutBloc seems to be the first major challenger to the old guard since the formation of the Unity Party back in May of this year. The Unity Party is led by the region's current Development Minister, Silvadus, so it'll be interesting to see how these two groups coexist when both parties' leaders hold significant office positions, pending elections. Yggdrasil Defense ServiceEarlier this week, The Black Riders invaded the region E FEDeration Knights. As E FEDeration Knights is an ally of Yggdrasil's sister region, Valhalla, the YDS led a defensive operation to liberate and restore the region. The Battle of E FEDeration Knights was the YDS's 57th operation. Yggdrasil emerged victorious, proving once again that philanthropy, justice and honor will always prevail over greed, destruction, and terror. Alyekra was instrumental in allowing the operation's success, as his early recognition of the invasion allowed for the YDS to mobilize itself before extensive damages were inflicted upon the region. The liberation effort was led by Silvadus and Elici, and was backed by veteran Illumina Dei. This victory marked Illumina Dei's 30th, placing him into a position of honor as just the third nation to reach this benchmark in YDS history. Old gun Vrolondia was present for the battle as well, continuing his current streak of defense since his renewed activity and return to the YDS's ranks. Additionally, three of Yggdrasil's citizens volunteered for service, marking each of their first defenses under the banner of Yggdrasil. Notably, the current Interior Minister, South Titania, earned his first military victory due in no small part to his efforts in this battle. The YDS operation was bolstered in strength by various members of Yggdrasil's allies, including 10000 Islands. For that, the YDS is eternally grateful for your services, cooperation, and coordination in its efforts. We hope that returning the favor will be unnecessary, but rest assured that if 10000 Islands is ever in need of defense, your allies in Yggdrasil will support you. Who is Zevassa?I'm Zevassa, and I'm the newly-appointed Yggdrasilian Ambassador to the 10000 Islands. I joined the region in late July and volunteered for service earlier this month, so this is my first post. I look forward to meeting you all (or more realistically, many of you (2000+ nations is a lot of faces lol)), so please don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested. While my nation may be young, I'm somewhat of an old salt. I first joined NationStates in 2004, but ultimately left in 2009. Rather than using old nations and pretending as though I understand what's going on, I've decided to start fresh and admit that yeah, I desperately need to relearn the game. Zevassa is my 7th nation; in the past I was never very active in the NS forums, nor was very acquainted with many of the game's regions. I predominantly played in private regions with friends of mine. When I did stick my nose into international politics I was never able to make much of a splash, and that's mostly because I'm shy around new people. I'm trying to be more bold, and I'm hoping that through Ambassadorial work I'll break out of my shell a bit more. Between late 2008 and early 2012, I was an active member of an online game's administrative team. I'm currently designing table top games and think that it's the greatest job ever. I get to play around with models all day and people actually pay me for it -- what's not to love about that?! So what's next?Hopefully by this time next month, Yggdrasil will have some form of newsletter prepared for me to share with you. Otherwise, I'll post another one of these primers. I'll also try to collaborate with other members of Yggdrasil to share interviews, opinion articles, and artwork when possible, and will try my best to keep all 10000 of your islands up-to-date with Yggdrasilian affairs. That might take a lot of canoeing, but I think I can manage!

I don't know if this is deliberate, but in the last 2 weeks the 10KI embassy forum in Yggdrasil has been spammed 3 times by bots.
For some reason, they only hit that subforum.

It's been a while since we had a newsletter, but with our recent upswing in activity, we have one again. Hopefully they'll be more regular now. Volume 3 | Issue 7 | January 01 | Foreign Edition | Newsletter Editor: Vrolondia Foreign Edition Proofreading and Formatting by Zybodia General Assembly: Repeal "Child Firearm Safety Act"A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation. For: 1,375. Against: 5,282. Voting ends in 3 days. Amongst Yggdrasil residents, voting is currently 1-4 (80% Against). Your Regional WA Delegate, Alyekra, has not voted on this resolution. Security Council: Commend HarmoneiaA resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region. For: 6,880. Against: 1,492. Voting ends in 2 days. Amongst Yggdrasil residents, voting is currently 2-4 (66% Against). Your Regional WA Delegate, Alyekra, has not voted on this resolution. Don't forget to vote! If you let your Delegates know your opinions, they can better represent Yggdrasil. ImmigrationYggdrasil has been in a decline Immigration-wise for a long, long time until recently. Over the course of the last 8 months since the last Observer, we have declined slowly from 223 nations, and in the past week Yggdrasil reached a new historic low; 95. There was Chaos in the streets! Fires! Burnings! A very sad panda somewhere sighed, and we cried to the heavens "Why!" Then, a Miracle. Thanks to what we at The Observer can only attribute to our own Silvadus sending out Automated Recruitment letters, we've somehow managed to raise our population to the current 107 nations, the 114th most in the world. For the first time since I restarted The Observer, our population is on the rise. Foreign AffairsWith the onset of the holidays our lovely region saw a small increase in activity from 10000 Islands, Texas, and Wysteria wishing us a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The region also played host to the lovely Bearistotle and Hebert, and The Observer would like to thank her for showing up every single holiday this year to wish us good tidings, and bringing amazing seasonal dishes to boot. If you happen to seen her, tell her thanks! Delegate Elections! The results of the current Delegate Election are as follows: Alyekra [ 7 ]** [58.33%] Canadian Davsland [ 3 ]** [25.00%] Zargovia [ 1 ]** [8.33%] I decline to vote for any of the candidates [ 1 ]** [8.33%] Please congratulate our new Jarl, Alyekra! Black Riders?!It seems The Black Riders have taken a liking to our sister region, The Realm of Yggdrasil. After numerous skirmishes with members of the Yggdrasil Defense Service, the Delegacy switched hands no less than 4 times. The end result was a lock placed on the region by the YDS to keep it secure, and to keep the raiders out. While we're on the topic of The Black Riders, they were recently condemned again by the WA, and as such are the only known region to have two condemnation badges. How awful can you get? The People's Republic of Thembria SSR“Wasting Thembrian STEAM!?”The People's Republic of Thembria SSR is a large, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate, cynical population of 92 million are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings." "Merry Christmas!" - Every second post in the past week "Happy New Year!" - Every other post "I'm lazy, find your own quotes you buggers" - Vrolondia, Just now "EVERYTHING MUST HAVE BAD GRAMMAR" - Vrolondia, in response to Zybodia's plans to further edit the foreign edition of the ObserverKeep an eye out for Volume 3 | Issue 8 next month!

Volume 3 | Issue 8 | February 1st | Newsletter Editor: Vrolondia Elections are in the Air!Yes, at long last the Senatorial Elections have returned to Yggdrasil! On the ballot this season are Elke and Elba for the seat of Aesir, and Doombringers for Vanir. Since they are currently running unopposed, it seems that both candidates will get into office. Sources say that the current senator, Vrolondia, has chosen not to run this season, and is instead taking a firmer stance towards inter-regional relations. The current votes are as follows: Aesir: Elke and Elba - 8 For / 0 Against Vanir: Doombringers - 4 For / 3 Against Yggdrasil Immigration ReportWith GRO's on a recruitment rampage we see a return of activity moving through Yggdrasil. More specifically, our region has grown significantly from what it previously was, raising from 107 nations to the current 159, the 63rd most in the world. New Embassy with CanadaYggdrasil has recently opened an embassy with Canada, our neighbor to the north (Well, for some of us anyways). Sources say that Canada is an old region, founded way back in 2003, and has been founderless ever since. They have embassies with at least 4 of our current friends; 10K Islands, Texas, Wysteria, and Global Right Alliance. A fifth, Equinox, is rumored to have previously had an embassy with Yggdrasil as well, but this may very well just be Vrolondia's crazy wall whispers. I'm not crazy. You're crazy!Regardless of the vocal state of my walls, both regions have similar populations, Ideologies, and Friends. Here's to hoping the Friendship lasts a long time! Midgard RefoundedOur Development Minister and Cartographer General Silvadus has refounded the region of Midgard. Previously owned by GRO as a Sister Region to Yggdrasil, the Council has voted in favor of keeping it as family due to the historic and cultural ties between not only the regions, but the inhabitants. I hope the best for you Silvadus, may Midgard become as powerful and prosperous as you dream. Yggdrasil will always be here for you and Midgard! YDS See action in SPACEThe YDS Participated in a failed liberation of SPACE earlier this month in an attempt to free it from The Black Riders. Rumbles say leading the charge were members of the FRA, with various nations from other, smaller defender organizations. Senjard was the first confirmed casualty of Yggdrasil, followed closely by South Titania, and GRO. It was around this time our endorsement count on the Defender Lead (Who shall remain anonymous for obvious reasons), peaked at 34, before settling down to 30, a mere 5-8 Endorsements to victory (Due to the actions of late sleepers, the endo count on the Invader lead lowered from 37 - 34, but they acted too late to change the outcome). With the Invaders' counterattack, the defender line broke; but no retreats were seen in the RMB that day, only Insults and Banjections. In the end, Zybodia, Silvadus and Vrolondia also faced the almighty Ban hammer, and FMxSoul retains his position over SPACE... For now. On a more upbeat note, Senjard, due to his courage on the battlefield, was officially accepted by GRO into the YDS on the spot; something that has never happened in YDS history. Kudos to you, Senjard! Cross Regional Games[region]Wysteria[/region] has chosen to host an RP Olympics of sorts in the nation of Herzil. Those who are interested in signing up can go here for more information, or should contact Vrolondia. Sources say the participating regions are Wysteria, Yggdrasil, Texas, 10,000 Islands, and Canada, so if you would like to test your mettle in the biggest cross regional event since the Nation States World Tour, this would be the time! Yggdrasil Cup Returns to YggdrasilYes, the Yggdrasil Cup has returned to Yggdrasil; and is in it's second tier. The winners of the previous round are as follows; FCNobreloen[Elke and Elba], KF Stálhöfn[Senjard], The Almugaurd Parliament[Alyekra], Pharallyx Basin Blues[Zybodia], FCDominions[Elke&Elba], with Doombringers junior football team in the lead by a landslide. The current round score is as follows: PL W D L GD PTS
FCDominions[Elke&Elba] 2 2 0 0 +2 +6 KF Stálhöfn[Senjard] 2 1 0 1 +3 +3 Doombringers junior football team[Doombringers] 2 1 0 1 +2 +3 The Almugaurd Parliament[Alyekra] 2 1 0 1 -1 +3 FCNobreloen[Elke&Elba] 2 1 0 1 -2 +3 Pharallyx Basin Blues[Zybodia] 2 0 0 2 -4 0
* - Incumbent Champion Resolution at vote: Repeal "Protect War Correspondents"Votes For: 5,579 (54%) Votes Against: 4,712 (46%) Voting Ends: in 13 hours Amongst Yggdrasil residents, voting is currently 5-10 (66% Against). Your Regional WA Delegate, Alyekra, has not voted on this resolution. The Observer urges all of Yggdrasil's member nations to take part in the regular World Assembly polls whether you are a WA member or not - Alyekra cannot represent the region properly if he does not know what the region wants... in the meantime, feel free to bother him about creating the polls. Tell him Vrolondia sent you! "Commend NewTexas" was passed 8,724 votes to 1,681. Congratulations NewTexas! You deserved it! I can hear the Texans partying from here. In fact, why not go give them a congratulatory visit? I'm sure they would love to have all of you! The United Provinces of SenjardThe United Provinces of Senjard is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Sigurður Helguson with an even hand, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 2.24 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. I knew sticking with Fire fox was the correct idea! -Thembria SSR This month, I decided to share with all of you a poem I wrote in honor of the fallen at SPACE. From little towns we came and fought, and marched into the throes, the hellish nights of endless fears that heaven only knows a thousand leagues across the sea, a hundred years from home we gave them our eternity, and withered into bones
From little towns we came, and left, fought within, and died from cannon bells and bullet shells ripping through the skies and in the trenches we would see just who of us survived the mornings hate of mortar shells while running for our lives
It doesn't matter who we are, who we fought or felled if only you could understand that where we fought was hell while marching forth to heavens gate with nothing but rounds our memories and broken dreams, with family in the ground.
From little towns we came and fought, and marched into the throes, To save the lives of someone else, we gave them all our own but god forbid, a thousand leagues? I think we've always known it was never for our freedom, and we didn't have to go

Volume 3 | Issue 11 | June 03 | Newsletter Editor: Vrolondia Closing of the Yggdrasil UnionThe Yggdrasil Union, an RP based assembly of nations created by a former Development Minister, was shut down this month due to low activity. The Yggdrasil Union was responsible for giving a voice to non council members by passing laws and regulations to its members; similar to the WA, but throughout Yggdrasil. A Press Release from the desk of GRO Valhalla-Yggdrasil and The Threats We Face October 30, 2014 MY FRIENDS, I found one of Vrolondia's posts in NS forum very interesting. "I always thought TNI's 8 year obsession over Valhalla was just an old wives tale GRO told to new YDS members to scare them D:"(post made Aug 03 2014) Unfortunately, nope. The threat from The New Inquisition (TNI) and its associated regions towards Yggdrasil-Valhalla is real. I didn't make this up. If you just joined us, here is the background to the conflict: In 2006, Valhalla was a founderless region that got invaded over and over by many different invader groups including DEN, Blades of Conquests, etc. It was also defended by many defender regions, such as TITO, ADN, RLA etc. In late Nov 2006, TNI (one of the invader groups) invaded it and proclaimed Valhalla to be a colony. This was of course, a one-sided proclamation as natives of Valhalla certainly opposed it. TNI's occupation lasted 11 days and was ended by a FRA (defender group) liberation. Natives cheered as the invaders got ejected.
As FRA defenders left, the delegate was given to a nation called Treutopia. This nation turned out to be an invader cell placed there by Children of the Grave (an invader region). After taking over the delegateship, Treutopia proceeded to password protect the region. From February 2007 onwards, Valhalla became a dead region. Kept alive by invader puppets placed there only so that they could keep Valhalla as a trophy.
After 22 months of being passwoded and left to die, the last nation finally expired on December 16, 2008. On the following day, I, Goddess Relief Office, refounded Valhalla and vowed to keep it safe from ever being invaded again.
Unfortunately, that's not the end of the story. A few years ago TNI started to assert its "claim" over Valhalla. This charge was led by Whiskum /Onderkelkia, who came up with the funny idea that somehow, because TNI invaded Valhalla and was its delegate for 11 days, TNI has perpetual rights over Valhalla. This assertion sounds nonsensical to most people. Since Valhalla was also invaded by DEN, BoC, COTG, and liberated by TITO, FRA, ADN, Cingeta, RLA in 2006. Invasions occur all the time and nobody has ever ventured to say "just because I invaded Region X, that regions forever belongs to me". (and who cares what the natives want?) TNI's "claim" has been repeated many times on the forum. However, one can detect a subtle change over the years. In earlier posts, TNI had generally mentioned FRA since it blamed FRA for liberating Valhalla from its grasp. In more recent posts, TNI has shifted blame to Yggdrasil, since I had refounded Valhalla and gave it a second life. Here are some of the more outlandish posts by Whiskum / Onderkelkia: Where defender regions we are not at war with are proscribed under Schedule I, this is not because they are defender but because they have opposed or acted contrary to TNI interests in some respects - for which we would potentially proscribe any organisation, whether it is defender or not. For instance, Yggdrasil is proscribed under Schedule I as a result of the status of Valhalla. So these decisions are not at all made on a random anti-defender basis. (post made on Oct 28 2014) - Source: forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=22234001#p22234001The Schedule I organisations are: - The Founderless Regions Alliance - The United Defenders League - 10000 Islands - Texas - Yggdrasil - The Aeazen Combine - The Ascendancy (post made on Oct 28 2014) - Source: forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=22234515#p22234515We distinguish independence from professed neutrality. Here we do not at all accept that Canada's conduct in associating with regions sympathetic to defenders and which have engaged in activities contrary to the interests of the United Imperial Armed Forces qualifies as neutrality towards us. Our position on Yggdrasil's occupation of Valhalla, the region over which TNI declared war on the FRA over in December 2006, has not changed. (post made on Aug 03 2014) - Source: forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=21194239#p21194239TNI's war with the FRA began over the invasion of Valhalla in December 2006, over six years ago, though admittedly the FRA has perpetrated various hostile military, political and intelligence acts against TNI since then. Why should eight months make any difference? Retribution comes when it comes. (post made on Apr 10 2013) - Source: forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=21194239#p21194239There is a treasure trove of other posts here: forum.nationstates.net/search.php?k...ds=valhalla&fidSo what's the point of bringing this up? I am writing because it is important that our members know: That the TNI threat is not an old wives tale I tell to scare people into joining YDS. It is also important that our allies know about this piece of history, so that they see the craziness of TNI's assertion and help us defend the Valhalla's natives should they come under attack when Yggdrasil could no longer serve as its protector. Freedom is precious and fragile. Don't ever take our current peace and security for granted. ~Goddess Relief Office~ Keeper of the Realm

A quality invader right there He seems to have a very warped idea of neutrality. We'll have to make sure TITO is ready to kick some TNI ass if he ever tries anything. Thanks for posting AD.

I fully endorse this sentiment. Those TNI members will never forget an event like the liberation of Valhalla. Nor will that region's instinctive hostility to their "proscribed organizations" and defenders generally wane with time. Not only is it central to their own gameplay, but that hostility is central to their own internal order as a region. I'm glad to see the threat is still taken seriously by Yggdrasil and Valhalla.

At the time when I refounded Valhalla, I had fully intended to return the region to natives. I didn't plan on keeping it. Yes, I made a try for refounding when last nation expired. But that was because I wanted to right the wrong that defenders created when they handed the delegate position to CoTG's invader puppet. Having seen Valhalla passworded for nearly 2 years because of that one mistake, I didn't want to leave it to chance for the region to be refounded by invaders. However, since the refound, Xe-bec and The Silver Phaeton never showed up. Val also didn't get a long-term delegate that lasted beyond a year. Then this TNI threat/claim started to pop up in 2010. All of which makes it impossible for me to disengage from the region.

Keeping Valhalla opens you to charges of "defender imperialism" (do they still use that term? I remember "FRA empire" being recited all the time.) However, keeping Valhalla prevents them from getting a payoff from invading and raiding. Insofar as that deters, prevents, or reduces similar actions elsewhere, I think it's worthwhile. Especially so for imperialist groups as opposed to straight raider groups. TNI will have its sights on Valhalla for as long as the game continues, however. That will never fade.
