"Twenty Ten" or "Two Thousand and Ten"

generally I say two thoausand and whatever, out of habit, but I'd rather say twenty whatever since we were going with nineteen, eighteen, and so on. What makes us change to two thousand? People didn't say one thousand sixtysix, they said ten sixtysix. But lol on the T-minus 2 years before doomsday.
