Congrats to our TITO members who won an award. Below is a list of the winners. Wordy received multiple awards. Nice work to all!

"Welcome to the 2011 Defender Awards Ceremony!
Similarly to last years awards we've seen an increased turn out this year with 45 ballots cast, which have now been double counted and verified. I'd like to thank everybody who has taken part in the running and success of this years awards, which is more representative of our community than ever before.
With that, I'm pleased to announce the winners of the fifth Annual Defender Awards, 2011...
The Defender of the Year Award
In a last minute alteration this award was changed from the Eurosoviets to the Defender of the Year Award, and is given to the defender viewed by the NS community who has helped the defender cause the most over the last year, in any capacity. This person is seen to be active, honourable and hard-working. It was a close one to call, as there are always a number of individuals who are worthy of receiving this award, but it's my pleasure to announce this year's winner of the Defender of the Year Award as Improving Wordiness, who is surprisingly the first TITO member ever to win in this category, and narrowly beat Spartzerina by a single vote.

The Ananke Award
The next award on the line up is the Ananke Award, given to the nation that is seen to have put the most effort into spotting or 'coast watching' for invasions. The two TITO candidates split their vote down the middle, and this was a clear and deserving win for Wopruthien, who becomes the first FRA winner of this year.

The Anarchotopia Award
Following a controversial few years with separate awards for defender regions and defender organisations, this year saw the first all out fight for the best defender group of the year. This was a clash of the titans with the FRA taking an early lead. However as voting continued it was 10000 Islands/TITO that gained ground, eventually beating all opposition.

The Blackbird Award
This special award is given to the invader group viewed by the community as the best out there due to whatever reason. With five nominees it was a close one to call, but the voting saw the controversial The Black Hawks take an early lead and sweep to victory, followed by the Union and Europeia.

The Sir Lans Award
The formerly named Updater of the Year Award is pretty self explanatory, and was another nail-bitingly close clash between our Defender of the Year and Spartzerina, with The lepearchauns following behind. It was another victory for the islands, and Improving Wordiness walks away with her second award of the night!

The Operation of the Year
There were a number of operations last year I would have thought would have been nominated this year, and Operation Lone Wolf wasn't one of them. I was even more surprised it got any votes at all, but thankfully the ballot box was dominated by the defence of South America, which saw one of the largest defender and invader turn outs this year, and the precision liberation of Western Europe by the FRA in November, which saw defenders retake the delegacy within seconds of deploying. Rightfully so however the award ended up going to South America, which saw the involvement of defenders across the entire community.

The Best Newcomer Award
As with every year the past 12 months has seen the arrival of many impressive new defenders, and it's usually the case that all the nominees deserve to walk away with the award. However there can only be one winner, and this year's best newcomer is Improving Wordiness, who takes home her third award of the night, and was closely followed by The lepearchauns.

The Dipes Award
This year saw yet again the nomination of Numero Capitan for the Dipes Award, given to the defender who has best served the intelligence cause. However in the ballot he was nowhere to be seen, beating only Biyah, and was utterly decimated no doubt by the puppet spy voters of FRA Intelligence Minister, Cocodian, who wins this award by a clear margin.

The Worst Invasion Award
This year saw both nominees for this award being FRA-related. Although the Task Force 902/CoJ/GRADF 'invasion' of The Polar Union would have been (in my opinion) more fitting, and took an early lead, the award was claimed by the multiple failed liberation attempts of Seven Eleven. Afterall we're only human!

The Meltdown of the Year Award
This has probably been my favourite category this year, with nominees stretching from turncoat defenders/invaders, to tyrants of the feeders, to the collapse of large and supposedly stable regions. This ended up being a close race between the constantly exploding mess that is Falconias, and the confusing/sudden marriage of CrazyGirl and Whamabama. He's been waiting two years for this award, and he claims it by just one vote, Falconias is this year's Meltdown of the Year!

The WASC Award
Brand new to this year, the WASC Award is given to the nation viewed by the community to have helped the defender cause the most in the last year through the World Assembly Security Council. This proved a controversial award, with Evil Wolf becoming the nominee for voters to protest against it's inclusion. Thankfully however a true defender of the SC was able to claim this award without any protest opposition, and Unibot becomes the first recipient of the WASC Award, with Sedge coming a few votes behind.

The Lifetime Achievement Award for Dedication to Defending
Now onto our most prestigious award, and the one for which I was a nominee (what the hell?). The recipient of this year's award really should have won it some time ago, and has remained one of the most respected active defenders of the game for many years. Starting in the North Pacific, she's been a member of the ADN, TITO and the FRA at some point over her lengthy career, and was one of the most highly endorsed delegates of all time. I am of course talking about the mighty Ananke, who received double the votes of myself as her closest competitor in the polls (again, what the hell?). Congratulations Ananke!

The Best Defender Quote
So onto the final award, which is one of our light-hearted ones. Beating a foul mouthed Sir Lans 15-10 Valoniah claims victory with his drunken slur-typing at update. Kudos!

So concludes the fifth annual Defender Awards 2011! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part and helped organise the success of this year"'s event, which saw a record high turn-out. A special thanks also goes out to Hadisthe for the design of the awards themselves this year.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and here's to another tip top year!"
