The Kannexian colonies of Deiyerjye and Sumaryia had been freed only a while ago, but their populations were getting fed up with the military juntas that took control after liberation from Kannexian colonial rule. The people had just rid themselves of a colonial government, but yet there were still authoritarian dictators telling them what to do. The economy, which was essentially destroyed when the Imperial Kannexian Air Force bombed their rebellious cities during the revolutionary wave, showed no signs of getting better.
The junta leaders needed a distraction from this--and they found the solution in Koenigfaste.
Koenigfaste Colony, the sole remaining colony of the Empire of Kannex. Despite two rebellions in the past few years, it had not managed to shake off Imperial Kannexian rule. So far, the Imperial Kannexian Armed Forces had largely left defensive responsibilities to the Koenigfaste Colonial Self-Defense Forces, the colony's local military. If the Koenigfaste rebels received outside aid, however, the situation could change drastically...
An invasion plan was set up, scheduling the invasion to take place later in the year. The Koenigfaste Colonial Self-Defense Forces were selling many of its aircraft carriers and destroyers, as well as decommissioning many naval units. Also, the military forces of Deiyerjye and Sumaryia were expecting shipments of "Flying Fish" anti-ship missiles from certain Globexian and Peisorian arms manufacturers.
However, domestic events in Sumaryia and Deiyerjye forced them to change their plan. Massive demonstrations occurred in major cities, with men, women, and children marching through the streets, carrying signs and shouting at the military police that had been sent to contain them. Among the rallying cries for the protesters were "Democracy for All!", "Down with the Junta!", "Free Elections!", and "Liberate Koenigfaste!"
Meanwhile, a nuclear submarine of the Imperial Kannexian Navy was rumored to be heading towards the coastal waters of Enolawald Province in southern Koenigfaste, reportedly to protect the area from an invasion. The military juntas knew they had to act quick.
Seven o'clock, nighttime. May 11th. A large naval task force of Deiyerjye and Sumaryia aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, and landing ships set sail from the Deiyerjye Islands, heading northeast to Koenigfaste.
International waters, South Medius Ocean. Miles away from the southernmost tip of Enolawald Province, Koenigfaste. Early morning; 5 A.M.
Air Captain John Mark Mzansi stood on the deck of an aircraft carrier, looking out at the vast ocean and the waves that rolled by, crashing against the hull of the gigantic Deiyerjye military vessel. The carrier had been modeled on captured Kannexian ships, and the quality was poor, but it was nonetheless a vessel to look out for.
With the help of the rising sun and the dawn sky, John was able to spot other ships sailing nearby--also military vessels of the naval task force heading discreetly towards Koenigfaste.
"We will be entering Koenigfaste waters in 25 minutes. All hands, prepare for battle," the ship captain's voice boomed from the loudspeakers. John's shipmates began moving, with crew members rushing around and saying their last prayers before battle or equipping themselves with their combat gear. Air Captain John himself took one last look at the rising sun, then ran to prepare himself for combat.
Grozeninsel, Enolawald Province, Koenigfaste Colony. Early morning; 5:40 A.M.
Christian Yertide loved to ride his bike to work. Every morning, he would ride to the docks where he worked as a fisherman. Christian was an Elitonzuiver--a Koenigfastian with mixed Kannexian and Tannenbergian blood.
The golden sun was rising, shooting out rays of sunlight from the horizon and illuminating the fishing town of Grozeninsel. Gronzeninsel was located on the largest island of the Little Pureuda Isles island chain, which was in return located off the Enolawald peninsula. It was obvious that any naval invasion of Koenigfaste would land here, but Christian and his fellow citizens paid no attention. They enjoyed the quiet town lifestyle that had maintained for years.
Christian parked and chained his bike to a fence. He then made his way to the docks, where many other fishermen were already working. "Guten Morgen, Felix!" Christian called out in German, which was the most commonly spoke language throughout Koenigfaste. Felix, one of his fishermen friends, called back something unintelligible but unmistakeably friendly.
Suddenly, what seemed to be a quiet, peaceful morning was interrupted by a long wailing sound from the sky...
NNNEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOWWWWW! ....
Ratatatatatatatatatatata--BOOM!--ratatatata...
Christian ducked just as machine gun fire went over his head and instantly killed Felix. Christian dared to look up and saw dozens--perhaps even hundreds--of bomber and fighter aircraft overhead, flying in the sky. Bombs dropped from the planes, causing buildings to explode and people to be blown apart. Several of the fishing boats were sunk, and he could see smoke coming from a nearby military base.
"That's not the Imperial Air Force!" someone shouted. "We're under attack!"
Suddenly, one of the pure-blood Kannexian fishermen stood and pointed to the horizon. "Al-diki! Das Feind! [the enemy!]" he shouted, first in Kannexian, and then in German.
A seemingly endless fleet of ships was quickly approaching the town. The amphibious assault ships made their way up to the beach and poured out hundreds of invading troops. Christian could see that they weren't Kannexian--all of them were either dark-skinned or tanned soldiers, dressed in combat uniforms.
"Koenigfaste is under attack," Christian concluded, shocked.
