Sign me up, although don't expect me to participate much considering I'm doing this only out of boredom, and not to mention I have real-world stuff to take care of.
Alexander the III of Macedon born in 356 BC. The kingdom of Macedon was ruled by Phillip the II (Alexanders father) was considered to be a barbarian state by the Greek city-states. Phillip the second secured his son a professional army. It is believed that Phillip the II thought of the Phalanx:
After defeating the Greek city-states and secured all of Greece. Phillip started to turn his attention to the old enemy of all Greeks Persia. But Phillip was assassinated in 336 BC. Alexander inherited the throne of Macedon but the Greek city states rebelled against Alexander. After retaking Greece (and destroying Thebes). Alexander took his battle hardened army to invade Persia.
Battles just started to number all Greek victories under Alexander. And the grates of them was Gaugamela (which we will talk about the next lesson).
After beating the Persian king Darius the III at Gaugamella Alexander took and continued toward Babylon which was looted and made the capital of the new Macedonian empire. Alexander would conquerer all of Persia. All the way to India where his army mutinied and forced him to return. I believe that Alexander chose the return through the Gerdosian desert as punishment to his troops. Alexander in just 3 years conquered all of Persia and became the ''king of kings''. But the king of kings lost his last battle against a fever. He died in Babylon in 323 BC. There was a crisis of who would inherit Alexanders empire. It is believed that Alexander as he was dieing said that he leaves his empire to ''the strongest''. The Macedonian empire split up into independent kingdoms ruled by Alexanders generals.
If i missed anything feels free to point out and if you have any questions ill try to answer them.
His father and faith. Alexander wanted to avenge his fathers death and defeat the old enemy of Greece. Persia who he believed organized his fathers assassination. On the conquest of Persia he came to Guordion where he ''answer'' the prophecy of the gordion knot (He who resolves this know will be the ruler of all of Asia). In Egypt he goes to the oracle of Ammon which tells him he is the son of Zeus.
This want for revenge and the belief that he was destined to conquer Asia drove him forward. But not even the best general can conquer without an army.
