...I've even heard that pre-orders can join whatever faction they please in spite of race which kind of defeats the whole purpose. I hope this isn't true, otherwise I can see this game going Free to Play and full of micro-transactions very soon.
Yeah, I've been looking for a WoW replacement for years. I quit that game back in like 2006 I think and I haven't found a good MMORPG to get rooted in ever since. I thought TOR was the answer, but the end game was just so bad.
Interestingly, I just read about some cool stuff that takes place after you reach level 50 (max level in ESO). You can enter a stage called "Veteran Ranks" where you get to return to Coldharbour and then play through a sort of alternate-timeline of events where you can experience the quest lines and adventures in either of the other 2 factions. So basically, when my Dunmer gets to level 50 I can go back as a Veteran Rank 1 character and play through the Daggerfall Covenant or Aldmeri Dominion. For the purposes of PVP, I'd still be Ebonheart, and I could return to Morrowind whenever I want, but I'd get to experience the other faction's stuff too, as a Dunmer. So esentially this will deal with the preorder ability to play as any race in any faction, by allowing all players who've reached the endgame to quest through the other factions if they want. So I'm looking forward to that.
Additionally, there are heroic versions of all dungeons, kinda like how WoW had heroic dungeon modes for end game. And there is what is called "adventure zones" which are like endgame raids. I don't know a whole lot about them yet, I still have a ways to go. But yeah, lots of stuff to look forward too.
