Werewolf 30 Post Mortem

[Witchcraft and Sorcery]

Wow. Barring some stumbles I had with rule clarity at the beginning, that was actually a pretty good game of WW, especially since I barely knew what I was doing half the time.

So here's what happened each night:

Night 1:
Wolves attack Mal - he has 1 life left.
Ater scans BT (villager)
3LiT3 defends himself
Mal scans Gunny (villager)

NIght 2:
Wolves attack Mal again
3LiT3 defends Mal
Ater scans Tsim (fool)
Mal defends himself

Night 3:
Wolves attack and kill Randomain
Ater scans Aerso (assassin)
3LiT3 defends Tsim
Mal doesn't send in a pick.

Night 4:
Wolves attack Tsim - not killed because he's the fool attacked by wolves
Ater scans Control - comes up as villager
3LiT3 defends Gunny
Mal doesn't send in a pick.

Night 5:
Wolves attack Tsim again
Ater scans Mark (villager)
3LiT3 defends himself
Mal scans Mark (villager)

Night 6:
Wolves attack and kill 3LiT3
Mal defends himself
Ater scans 3LiT3

Night 7:
Wolves attack and kill BT
Ater scans Gunny
Mal doesn't send in a pick

Night 8:
Control (the final wolf) kills Ater

I will point out that the only wolf that I scanned was Aerso, Thomas managed to pick the other two out by himself. Boy was I paranoid after that...

I agree, W&S. That was pretty fun, even though I spent the whole game shooting in the dark, until it was too late. I would've won too, if it weren't for that meddling armed simian.

I know... It was horrible. After that second attack on Tsim, I literally picked 3lit3 with a die, because when we strategized, we weren't getting kills.

Yeah, it was kind of frustrating with no kills for the first 2 nights. Eventually, we just started picking randomly and hoping for the best.

Good thing they killed me instead of going after Mal for the third time (though I wish they'd have gone straight for Tsim instead )

I had assumed the first two nights targeted me, and when I didn't die the wolves knew I was the Fool. So I tried to goad the wolves into leading a lynch against me by being as helpful as possible to the village.

Unfortunately, it turns out in the early game was actually my best chance to get lynched as Ater scanned me pretty quick.

I'm not sure if this game was unbalanced or the wolves just had horrible luck. I mean, the Dragonborn was pretty much out of the game and they still lost fairly handily. I think the presence of the Fool makes it a lot harder on the wolves than the village... the good guys could scan me, but the wolves would never know what was going on if I didn't die. Plus, having the Fool around makes a "no lynch" strategy much more persuasive.

I do think the fool makes things a bit more interesting since he can't be killed by the wolves. That puts a kink in the wolves' strategy since they won't know if they hit someone defended, the elder, or the fool.

I don't think it was horribly unbalanced, though. If you look at the wolves attacks, it's pretty normal for some games: they got the Elder once (and tried again to have him be defended), killed 3 people, and attacked someone that might as well have been "Defended"

I'd say that seems pretty much how the games normally go. If they weren't getting any hits at all, I'd say it was a little unbalanced...but they seemed to be doing fine despite any odds that would have been considered unbalancing.

If anything, though, it's a role that makes people think twice about their votes. No votes do sound more persuasive, but that's also a plus for the wolves since every no vote round gives them extra time to off someone.

I honestly thought that even with the first two nights not killing anyone, the wolves would still win. They just kept hitting the wrong people. I would get my PMs and be like, "wow. They have really bad luck." Sure made for an interesting game though. I can't wait to see what you've got planned for WW31, Pengu. Your last game was a d**n thriller that I SHOULD'VE WON BUT I MADE A DUMB MISTAKE AT THE END AH GOD DANGIT WHY DO THESE THINGS ANNOY ME.

But seriously. Great game all around. Control said in the wolf PM that early on Ater deserved an award for indicting all the wolves at once, right after he scanned Aerso. Often there'll be more than 1 indicted at a time, but I've never seen all four ID'd in the same post so early on. That was certainly eye-opening.

I thought the game was quite balanced. I think the wolves just played very poorly this time around (no offense). Ducky was an easy spot and Ayunli was the best candidate that phase when it looked as if Ater might die. Aerso as per usual was scanned pretty early in the game. Tsim never really stood a chance since I would have blocked any attempt to have him killed in the day phase; I was greedy and wanted the win to be just for the villagers. Overall the game wasn't too bad at all. There was the confusion with the rules involving communication between power roles and villagers, but fortunately that was resolved by the end of day 2. This is several games now where the wolves wasted too many nights trying to hit the same people twice. I know that I'm going to reshape my wolf strategy in future games in accordance to this trend.

I definitely agree. Having Aerso on the team was a double-edged sword, because if he doesn't die quickly, it's very suspicious. We wolves also just didn't do so well, and I'm going to adapt my strategy from here on out kill-wise. There were so many places where we almost won, though...

There were a lot of places where it could have swung either way. It was really interesting to see it from a GM's viewpoint for once.

It's definitely interesting seeing the game from a different viewpoint. There were a good number of times where I wanted to jump in, but tried to keep myself from speaking an incredible amount. It was definitely a pretty intense game at points, though.

At the start, defender was quite a different role fronn usual, because I had to consider that I needed to stay alive so that the seer could contact nne.

We couldn't decide whether to stick with Mal after 2 failed kills, or to move on. We should have stuck it out, but with the fool role in play we weren't sure. Nice of 3LiT3 to save him randomly on night 2. That could have made a big difference in the game.

That's what we call a pure stroke of luck right there. It could have easily turned into a whole new game that night.

either way, all it would take was both of you deciding to not defend him, and it would have been an instantly different game.

If you hadn't defended him on night 2 then he'd have died on night 2 and I'd have been the only assassin to be scanned

What 3lit3 meant was that Mal defended himself as well on that night. So even then he would have been protected.
