Beko Basketball Bundesliga (German Basketball bets)

Here are the rules:
The Beko Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) is the highest national basketball league in Germany. It consists of 18 teams. In the main round, these teams play each other twice, amounting to a total of 34 game days, each with 9 games. The best 8 teams qualify for the playoffs, but we will cover these when the time comes. The playoff winner is the German Basketball Champion. The worst two teams are relegated to the Pro A (second league) and are replaced for the next season by the best two teams from the Pro A. Games are played by standard FIBA rules (which are not NBA rules, my North American friends).

Your possible betting games are:

1. Bet on who wins a game (Winner Game)
A ticket costs 100 Tacos. The pot will be divided amongst those who have bet on the right winner. For example: A, B and C play for 100 Tacos each. The pot is 300 Tacos. A and B say "Team X will win", C says "Team Y will win". If Team X wins, A and B both win 150 Tacos. If Team Y wins, C wins 300 Tacos.
Jackpot: If no player has guessed the correct winner (i.e. all players bet on team A but team B wins), the pot from that game carries over into the Jackpot. A player can win the jackpot by correctly betting on all the winners of any given round.

2. Relegation Ticket (December 2014 only)
As explained above, the two teams with the lowest point score (points are awarded for winning games) will be relegated to the "2. Basketball Bundesliga Pro A".
For a mere 500 you can bet on which teams will have to leave the league this season! If you guess both teams correctly, you will win 1000 Tacos, if you guess one team correctly, you will win 750 Tacos. Each player may only buy one ticket and each ticket must name two teams.

I'm, sorry I can't give a detailed description on all of those, but you wouldn't benefit too much from that anyway

FC Bayern München
FC Bayern München is both the most beloved and most hated football club in Germany and is located in the City of Munich. It is less known that the club also has a basketball team. The basketball team was founded in 1946 and had great sucess in the 50s and 60s, including the championship 1954 and 1955 and cup winner 1968. In 1974 the team was relegated two the second league. 1987 they re-joined the Bundesliga but were relegated again in 1989 two the second league and soon after to the regional league. For the 2009/10 season, the club aquired a license for the Pro A from the Düsseldorf Magics and was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2011. The season 2011/12 saw Bayern München participating in the Play-Offs but being booted out by the Artland Dragons in the Quarter Finals. They also participated in the Eurocup. In the 2013 playoffs, they were eliminated in the semi-finals by the Brose Baskets. In the season 2013/14, Bayern participated in the Euroleague and Bundesliga. After the main round, Bayern was in first place, thus yet again playing in the playoffs. They won the 2014 palyoffs and became German Basketball Champions.

Cup Winner and Champion's Cup Winner 2014, Champions 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, has been ion the league and in the playoffs consecutively since 1991.

I have sent 200 tacos to wager on FC Bayern München in both its Oct 2 & Oct 5 games.

Although I know zip about German basketball, my wife and I, along with another couple, toured Germany for 2 weeks by car a few years back. We stayed 3 days in the Old Munich section (at the Hotel Mueller) and just fell in love with everything there. The beer gardens were great - and I'll admit to having a bit too much of their, uh, "product", one morning at the Augustiner Keller.

We also really enjoyed Kaiserslautern very much. If I remember right, it's in the Black Forest region. An absolutely gorgeous area! The husband of the married couple we traveled with had lived there for a couple years... Louisistan, are any of the teams from that area? If so, I might add a wager or two.

Overpriced? Come to think of it, the liver soup in Munich seemed a bit expensive, too, for being...well..liver soup. Is it too late to complain to the German Tourist Board (or whatever) for being taken advantage of?

Yeah, the “donations” page can act screwy sometimes. It happens to me on occasion in the lottery.

One thing for sure though, is to never let the timer tick down below 10 seconds, no matter whether you’re sending or receiving donations. If you do, I think the page will take the sender’s tacos, but doesn’t seem to have enough time to complete the transaction by crediting the recipient… I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but it will happen if you aren’t aware of it and let the timer get too low.

Now you've made me look up what and where this Quakenbrück or whatever the place is called is!

And lo and behold, I got sucked into a bit of etymology trivia. Of Quakenbrück in Niedersachsen, not so far from the Netherlands, Brück = bridge, that's obvious. Where the Quaken part is derived from is not entirely certain. The best bet is on the name referring to a bridge over a swamp area with unstable surface. When you walked across the planks of the paths built across the swamp, it was moving underfoot. Thus Quaken is related to the anglo-saxon cvacian, and the modern English words quake and quagmire.

All those who like this curious name should bet on the Artland Dragons from Quagmire Bridge.

Edit: In Terry Pratchett's Discworld, they'd be swamp dragons.

Changes to the game: INTRODUCING THE JACKPOT
Seeing as no one correctly bet on the outcome of the Ulm-Oldenburg game, these 300 Tacos will now be added to our all new Jackpot. To win the Jackpot, a player must have bet correctly on all 9 games of a round. Starting immediately! So that means you can already win the jackpot in Round 2 which plays from tonight through monday, and bets aren't closed yet. But please remember, you have to bet on all 9 games to be eligible to win the Jackpot.

Also, starting immediately the Score Bets are discontinued for lack of interest.

Round 4 will be played October 11th - October 22nd - Unfortunately, that means the round is split over two weekends and round 4 ends after round 5. Unfortunately these things happen quite often, when a club can't get the arena for the planned date. I have no other chance than to handle these on a case-by-case basis, Sorry. But I'll try to be as consistent as I can.

Round 4 special rule: To win the jackpot in round 4, you have to correctly predict the winners of the 8 games that are played from October 11th through 12th. The last game of round 4 will be disregarded for the jackpot.
