I think the job of the media is to report news objectively, without bias. It's up to us to decide if something needs to be done. Liberals in this country want to make us dependent on government, like the communists are. I think the media should just report it and let us decide. Of course, that's not what's happening....

Hear Hear! I agree with New Allectomeister, the media is there to report what is happening, kind of like the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The problems come in when they decide that they need to leave out information in order to report other information to make more money. It's the public's duty to learn from what information we recieve from the media and turn it into action.
I disagree, the media is there to make money. It is not their duty to give us news, it's something they have chosen to do, and therefore it is only fair that they do it "their way". If you don't like what they're saying, shut off the TV or don't buy that newspaper anymore. You also got me confused there... do the liberals "want to make us dependant on government, like the communists are"? That sounds kind of authoritarian, and aren't the liberals supposed to be just the opposite, or are there such big difference between american and european liberals?

Your observation is sad but true. The purpose of the media is to make money. This does not make it right, however, if the media was to distort or misrepresent the truth. The media should, but is not obliged to report the truth impartially.

The X-Prize. A contest in which the first private enterprize spacecraft who reaches low orbit in spacecraft and do it again in a week wins 10 million dollars. With the Iraqi videos coming out it was completly ignored! Burt Rutan, owner of scaled comosites, a space company won it last week! Check it out at www.scaled.com

They should find a different way to make money if they are going to lie to the people. That is like watering down medicine. The pharmacist is just there to "make money." If you say that's not a good comparison, and that he is there to save lives, well, so is the media. Some of the issues they address (and often lie about) are life-and-death situations, like abortion. So their job is to tell the truth, with no spin on it.
The situation is not the same everywhere, in some countries the state owns the biggest broadcasting corporation, and in some (not all) of these countries that system works. People there get news that are wieved from a national or neutral (again depending on the country) point of view rather than from a political, since these corporations get all their money from the state, they have no interest in profitmaking.
The problems with these more socialist systems (that's how I would like to describe it), is that taxes raise, and that if you get a "bad" government, the news get even more political... It is interesting to see that this seems to be an issue where socialists and conservatives can agree on the ideal solution (well to a point...).

You are right, New Allectomeister, in that the media's goal shouldn't be to make money, but just because it should be this way, doesn't make it so. On the contrary, the purpose of the media is to make money. This is simply the truth, however it should not be this way. The purpose of our society shouldn't be to make money, but rather to better its people.
Well, I personally believe the images should be shown. However Fox and Cnn, aren't the ones making the country look bad. You can thank the biased al-jazeera. All around the world these images are being shown. By this kind of censorship, you are saying that the guy with the camera is worse than the guy slapping the POW.
