The two men stumbled on, tripping on vines and getting whipped by the occasional branch. The dank, clammy mist enveloped them, robbing them of any idea of what was ahead of them. “You sure this is the way, Woon?” asked Aersoldorf as they plunged on. “No, Aerso, I’m not” said Woonsocket, “but as best as I can tell, this old map says keep going this way.” Woonsocket paused to try to make out the path to the spot marked X on the map. “I think we’re here, so we have to go this way” he continued.
Their compasses spun crazily as they kept moving, the entire forest seemingly woring against their progress. “There – do you see that?” asked Aersoldorf. There was the faintest of lights visible through the trees. “Yes, I think – I hope that’s it” Woonsocket replied. They pushed on, and sure enough, there was a cabin, with warm firelight dancing within. As they approached, they saw a sign over the door – what looked like a capital T but with another parallel horizontal line below the main one. “Gotta be it” said Woonsocket. “Yup” replied Aersoldorf, “it must be his house – the legendary Mortimer.”
They knocked on the huge oaken door, gingerly at first, then more insistently. The door creaked open. A wizened old man stared at them. “Who are you? What do you want with me?” he asked.
“Are you Mortimer? We need to discuss the economy of 10000 Islands with you and how best to manage it” said the men. “Hmmph” said Mortimer, “what’s in it for me?”
“Well” said Aersoldorf, “we brought this bottle of 100 year old Scotch whisky with us to help us deliberate. And I’ve created a basic plan for what we’d like to do, and Woonsocket and I have been working on that framework. But we would like to have you help us polish it up so the economy can best benefit Shop Item owners.”
“100 year old Scotch? Now you’re talking!” replied Mortimer. “Come on inside.”
They talked deep into the night. The basic idea for the productive parts of the economy is that there will now be a 20 month payback on shop items. The overall plan? We like to call it the Aersoldorf/Mortimer/Woonsocket Economic Recovery Plan, or the AMWERP. Here is the first stage of it that we will put into place immediately:
Taco Farm - cost 10K, land based, earns 500 tacos/month
Pearl Farm - cost 10K, sea based, earns 500 tacos/month
Seaweed Farm - cost 10K, sea based, earns 500 tacos/month
Cattle Farm - cost 10K, land based, earns 500 tacos/month
Mines - all 4 types cost 15K, all are land based, all earn 750 tacos/month
Air Shipping - cost 20K, land based, earns 1000 tacos/month
Container Ship - cost 20K, sea based, earns 1000 tacos/month
3-D Printing - cost 20K, land based, earns 1000 tacos/month
Trucking - cost 20K, land based, earns 1000 tacos/month
Desalinaton Plant – cost 25K, sea based, earns 1250 tacos/month
Weapons Factory - cost cost 25K, land based, earns 1250 tacos/month
Car Factory - cost 25K, land based, earns 1250 tacos/month
Shipyard - cost 25K, sea based, earns 1250 tacos/month
Please also note, the economy of 10000 Islands is a living, breathing thing so it is subject to tweaks until Aerso and I get it humming along the way we want. Your thoughts are welcome, but we may or may not fold them into the Plan as we see fit. There is no crying in economics!
