Hey all!
I know I haven't been that active on the forums since I've come back from my initial impromptu hiatus. However I've resigned myself to make this hiatus less impromptu.
Half a year ago I was contacted by some recruiters and I decided to join the National Guard for some reason; the time between then and now I've mainly been waiting to ship out. So I'll be taking a forced hiatus during my training, because I'm obviously not allowed any electronics during Basic Combat Training (BCT) and possibly into Advanced Individual Training (AIT). I'll be gone at least-roughly-10 weeks for BCT and an additional 6 months for AIT. I do plan on returning here once I complete training though — so please don't disperse all of my assets.
For those of you interested, I'll give some context on what I'll be doing. Some details will be left out for privacy, because these forums are public. I'll be leaving for Ft. Jackson, SC for BCT in about a month. After BCT I'll be going to Ft. Gordon, GA for AIT. My MOS will be in the 25 series, which is basically entirely in the signal branch of the Army. A somewhat common question I've been receiving is, "Why are you choosing to join?" The answer is rather boring if you ask me; basically I've grown up with a keen interest in the army which is also seen by one of my favorite hobbies: history — especially Eurocentric battles and wars. Of course other factors are obviously stuff like a greater purpose, serving my nation, and most importantly the government will help pay for college.
In summary, this thread is basically to catch people with whom I have not had to opportunity to speak to for a while and to explain my upcoming hiatus. I will gladly answer any questions as long as they're semi-relevant and non-personal.
P.S. Sorry if I use any acronyms I don't explain, I've been training and instructed for the last few months into the Army way before BCT.
