The way I saw it: as a Faceless Man, your face actually changes, no mask necessary. OR, the viewer's perception changes.

Hmmm. I'd forgotten that. In Fire and Blood George R. R. Martin writes of a character that was rumored to be a Faceless Man because eyewitnesses all described him differently. Of course the books and the TV show differ conxiderably.

I never read the books. I like reading but virtually every person I talked with that has read them has said they start out great, and engaging, but as there's no resolution and the promised final book has never been written. Characters that are important in one book are not even mentioned in the next book.
I read for enjoyment and education. Don't need any further frustration than caused by reading the news.

Granted, Martin hasn't finished the series yet, but he says he intends to. But with two volumes of Fire and Blood (one finished), The Winds of Winter, and something with Spring in the title...well, that's a lot of writing. But I see your point. It's like watching Season 1 of the tv show and having to wait for the next season.

I say things that I intend to do. Not all of them happen though - and it's gotta be more difficult as the series had a definite ending, not related to what he intended writing apparently.

The TV show began to diverge by the third novel. With the fourth they were taking great liberties, and I found their ending to be very unsatisfactory. In that culture, warriors are respected. A cripple would really have to demonstrate his might otherwise, and Bran Stark didn't do that.

"Oat" Bran Stark? I call him that because jeepers, what a "meh" character. And yes, making him King to sit on the Iron Throne, that didn't sit well with me or my girlfriend, who read the books.
She says there's a lot of pages devoted to flags though. Perhaps that's where Sheldon got it from?

When I was a lad I read a lot about King Arthur. I remember lengthy descriptions of the Knights and their livery, and accounts of the Lords and Ladies, to the point of tedium. Martin emulates that, which afforded me the opportunity to rapidly scan some parts of the novels.
