Look, I want a good survey on this question. Anecdotally, it seems XKI is most popular, but I personally have been preferring 10KI or "Islands" lately. What does everyone else think?

"The Islands" is quite good but I prefer XKI because it seems more stately/dignified/official than 10KI and therefore more suitable for a region of this size, age, and complexity of government.

Now that our CE is Irish how about "These emerald isles". Not an acronym per se, but ...

I do like XKI as it seems very dignified and it seems to have a good history. I wouldn't know about the history as I'm new but it seems like that's just the name everyone calls it. Though Islands seems pretty cool as well.

I, too, use them interchangeably, along with The Islands. Everyone knows just what I mean.

All of XKI, TKI, and 10KI are each a weird amalgamation of different ways to abbreviate—Roman numerals (X), Arabic numbers (10), metric system (K), and first letters of words (T and I). I prefer XKI mostly because it's always been most common here, I think, and it's what I learned. X is also on the regional flag. But because of all this weirdness, I also use "the Islands," etc.
If we actually wanted to abbreviate 10,000 in Roman numerals, that's tricky. I believe that the Romans didn't actually have a symbol for numbers above 1,000, so 10,000 would be MMMMMMMMMM (MMMMMMMMMMI would be quite the abbreviation!). In post-Roman times, X with a line over it (X̅) has been used for 10,000 (used on the regional flag). But then there's also this wonderful symbol—ↂ—which I can only really find on Wikipedia. With any of these, though, sticking an I on the end for Islands would be confusing because it could also read as a 1 in Roman numerals.

I'll be honest, I've never thought about it before in terms of being an "amalgamation of different ways to abbreviate" but now it seems nothing could be right. I think Klopstock is the only person I've ever seen use "TKI". Is that maybe an older abbreviation that has fallen out of favor?
And then there are the debates over "the 10000 Islands" versus just "10000 Islands" and over using a comma in 10(,)000 or not.
"10000 Islands" > "the 10000 Islands" "10000" > "10,000" (And I believe doing it the other way is actually just wrong. The region's name on NationStates is "10000 Islands".)

I prefer XKI because it sticks with only letters. "The 10000 Islands" seems like it was a lot more popular early in XKI history. I would use 10,000 Islands, but since in the region title it is 10000 Islands I always use that. The main reason I would prefer 10,000 Islands is because I think it would be easier for new members to find.
