January 1870:
A British Explorer named Charles Dokansia spots the Island but decides to leave it unexplored, as he was on the way to an ancient shipwreck roughly 11,000 Miles south, he informs the crown of it when he returns from his (successful) venture.
August 1872:
A British settlement force funded by the popular Sir Richard Levington the 4th, (Knighted for his dedication to funding the colonial growth of the British Empire), was composed of roughly 200 men and 150 women equipped with outdated weapons and cannons, as well as Cattle, Chickens, Sheep and Dogs and an ironclad warship, The Natalia, when they arrived at the island. They immediately set up a port town (Later to become the nations capital; Deathlon) and begin exploring the island.
November 1872:
Sir Richard Levington is appointed governor of the island as a reward of his services and is sent over to the island. When he arrives, his first words are recorded to be:
“This place smells terrible”
Appalled by the poor hygiene and raw sewage floating out in the bay, he sets about introducing a basic sewer system to the island, as well as starting an education program about British customs, traditions, and curriculum for the natives in an attempt to assimilate them. The explorers report the climate of the island to be large part jungle, and the average height above sea level is 382 meters , due to its mountainous regions. Small boost in population due to births from pregnancies that occurred during the journey.
January 1873:
Sir Levington, (Now referred to as 'The Governor') makes a bold move in deciding to ask the Crown to become independent with a fully formed government with him at its head. In exchange for this, he promises the island will become a new ally of the Empire. Permission is inevitably denied, as they didn’t want to give The Governor so much power, and give other offshore territories ideas… However, a compromise was made so they would let him form a council consisting of the island’s citizens, rather than an inefficient off-shore government that worked from all the way in London, however, they would still remain an official province of the British Empire. Prospectors started to arrive from foreign countries, looking for some valuable metal such as iron or gold.
November 1873:
After much campaigning and crown-mandated personnel interviews, the council is finally set up. The education rate rises from 42% to 68%. Sir Levington asks the crown for a shipment of new weapons and artillery for national defense, as the current ones are outdated. The crown agrees, but states that this will be the last help they receive, as the costs of the sewer system was:
“More trouble than the island is worth”
Prospectors find Large veins of iron and coal, and start mining companies. As a result, a second port is built to accommodate the new exports and imports. The First steel manufacturing company is made on the island: Jara and co.
October 1874:
The shipment of crown-issued weapons finally arrives, but weapon and artillery factories as well as foreign investors are arriving left and right, so they deconstruct the weapons for parts and study and start producing those revised versions there, leaving no need for further shipments. Foreign Diplomats start to arrive at Dokansia, so multiple embassies are built. Nationalities are mixing more and more rapidly. Deathlon is becoming overpopulated, and so to cope with this issue a second town is established roughly 40km away; Point Waterford.
February 1878:
Unregulated mass mining has caused all of the major veins to be completely stripped bare. Because of this, Dokansias main businesses become reduced to Trout fishing and basket weaving. A new Council position set up by the crown to combat a situation like this happening again: Department of Environmental control. One of the departments jobs entails regulating mining rates, so it lasts as long as possible while still keeping efficient. Foreign companies that don’t comply will have their property taken over by the crown. Fortunately, the only incident where this actually happened was when French Mining Company had their mine taken by force and given to a compliant British one after a warning had been issued to them months prior. Education rate has hit an all-time high of 92%
June 1885:
A plague of Malaria has struck the island, and despite the hospitals best attempts, Sir Levington passes away from the disease at the age of 56. Sir Levington asks for Vice-Governor Joseph Blach to be his successor after he dies, but this request was denied by the crown. Quote:
“Regarding of your rapidly deteriorating health, you are no longer fit to be the Governor of Dokansia, or have the power to choose your successor. You shall be replaced effective tomorrow. Kind regards, The Crown”
He died two days later. In Richards place they put a young man by the name of Samuel Laz, an educated British puppet who was instructed (Behind closed doors) to reverse the nation from the little autonomy it had. The only reason that the province was allowed to have its own government in the first place was the relative popularity of Sir Dokansia and the fact that under a local council the island would run more smoothly. However, with the death of Sir Dokansia and new advances in communication technology (The telephone), Samuel was able to draft and sign the infamous decree of Deathlon. The document stated:
“The island of Dokansia will immediately disband the council, in favor for being ruled entirely offshore. The country will follow English laws and English customs. The metal warship and as well as all the soldiers that escorted the original settlers will be re-incorporated into the British Military, with exception of a Local Militia Force for the purpose of home defense."
Due to the fact that the warship was merely lent from the navy and not bought, it is rightfully returned to the empire, as the contract that Sir Levington signed has been nullified due to his unfortunate demise, as it clearly states in Subsection 4, Paragraph 2.”
In 1982 Dokansian lawyers discovered that there is no such notice in Subsection 4, paragraph 2. In fact, the Ship was meant to be kept in Dokansian control for another 5 years. As a result, they pressed the British government to return the ship as compensation, where it still rests in the Dokansian museum today. After the Decree was signed on June 21st, Dokansia became: (Quote from Vice president Joseph Blach)
“A mere refuel station for ships to stop at on the way to British possessions.”
The nation would stay event free for 32 years, apart from population growth and a new town, Sarandia.
June 1914-November 1918
Dokansia briefly appeared back into history during the outbreak of the First World War. The men that enlisted in the British army were mostly sent to the Belgian and French front, where almost 75% of them were killed by 1918. Dokansians flew for the first time in 1916, where 20 Dokansian pilots participated in the battle of the Somme, taking down 17 enemy fighters, and losing just one pilot, Abram Saer, after he had to bail and landed in barbed wire. They lost another two pilots in the following air battles of the war, and a further 8 planes. In respect of their contributions, the British government granted them permission to keep the remaining 11 planes to add to the local Dokansian Militia force. The massive casualty rates on the front caused a large peaceful protest for independence that the English Brutally crushed. Infamously known as ‘The Scarlet Stampede’. During this tragedy, British police killed over 30 people and injured 140 with their horses. This provided further fuel for outrage to the public, leading to an underground freedom movement being formed: United Dokansia, with its motto being: “Ad Alta Virtute”: For higher power. After the war, a National airport and a War memorial are planned to be built.
September 1920:
Dokansias building of a war memorial and an Airport are finished. Both the Memorial and the Airport are Built in the center of the nation’s capital, Deathlon. A new town is established, Cownsville. The population of the island hits 15,000. With oil being discovered offshore, as well as some new iron ore veins being discovered, the island is thriving underneath the new economic boom.
August 1929:
When the great economic crash of 1929 hits, the Island is recoiling; Lines for soup go on for a kilometre or two, 18% of the insured workforce has become unemployed, the foreign investors in the iron mines awake the next day to see the value of their stock has plummeted, (causing several to go so far as commit suicide) and the harbor has become all but a ghost of its former self, with almost no ships leaving or arriving. Financially and emotionally wrecked former workmen and businessmen join the United Dokansia organisation in droves, and sensing the weakness of the empire, they begin to plan a revolution.
September 1930:
On the 14th of September, 1930, civil war breaks out across the nation! The rebellious group ‘United Dokansians’ (Lead by revolutionary leader Johnathan Wilk) and an underequipped, underprepared, but stronger in numbers Loyalist Local Militia (Led by a young British lieutenant stationed at the island at the time, Edwin Matthews) are at arms against each other. The British dont directly participate, apart from sending the Loyalist Local militia shipments of outdated ww1 equipment. This was because they were afraid of any potential exterior supporters of the rebels, and being extremely unwilling to support them in a war with troops due to the further toll it would cost on an already staggering economy. After Britain appealed to The League of Nations for support, the response was:
“The United Kingdom’s business and the United Kingdom’s business alone”
Even France rejected the appeal, as they were busy fighting off the Yên Bái mutiny in Indochina (Now Vietnam)
October 1930:
After a month of brutal fighting, the war ends with the assassination of Wilk by his own war cabinet. After the surrender of the United Dokansia forces, several events took place: Lieutenant Matthews was issued a Victoria Cross as well as a Distinguished Service Cross, and sent back to England. Soldiers of the United Dokansian movement were not executed, and instead confiscated of their weapons and sent back home. The war council of the UD movement were executed with the exception of the ones who proposed the treaty. Instead, these individuals were instead sentenced to 10 years hard labor. LLM fighters were celebrated as heroes by the British press, although feelings back on the island would be more mixed. Much needed jobs were created in weapon manufacturing when the UK government decided to establish the Dokansian Defense Force, which was to be equipped with modern weaponry, including Tanks and Aeroplanes in order to prevent a rebellion happening again.
September 1939
On the 3rd of September 1939, the province of Dokansia joined the war along with the rest of the British Empire.
December 1941:
After Japan invaded the Allies, the majority of the British recruits with Dokansian nationality were sent to fight alongside the British and Australians in Singapore, and then later in Papua New Guinea.
March-December 1942:
The Japanese launch repeated attacks against Dokansia, but the Dokansian Defense Force Manages to fend them off multiple times. The Japanese finally give up after their last battle on the 29th of December, where the Japanese High command decided to stop committing manpower to a relatively pointless island. In total the Japanese had lost 8000 men trying to take the island, and the Dokansians lost 4200 defending it.
1946:
Dokansia becomes independent on the 13th of February 1946, due to the British decolonisation. The people choose WW2 veteran and prolific smoker George Landenfield as the leader of the island. The British pound is replaced by the Czecha. On the 17th of July he expands the war memorial, as well as creating the nations new flag which until that point had simply been a plain white flag with the union jack in the top left corner. On the same day, he decides to adopt the old United Dokansian motto: “Ad Alta Virtute”. On the 19th of September George funds an immigration program to Europe, taking advantage of the (Mostly Polish and East German) fleeing refugees from the closing iron curtain. Lastly, on the 25th of November, he decides to make an underground nuclear research and development facility under the codename Beehive.
1947:
At what is regarded to be the beginning of the Cold War, George decides to take the neutral approach. Trade deals are conducted among both sides, mostly Uranium for an upcoming secret nuclear research and development facility. Deciding to expand the military, George increases funding to Naval and Military design companies in order to cease relying on outdated British weapon designs and start producing modern Dokansian ones, the old military factories are converted to fit their new purposes, and weapons or ships produced from these refurbished, refitted factories are put under one of two labels: Dokansian Arms, or Dokansian Navy. During December of that year the French island of Glave becomes independent.
1952:
On the 4th of October the Beehive project is completed, despite devastating the economy. After the first hydrogen bomb is dropped on the 1st of November, Dokansian scientists rush to document the event and begin development of their very own one, nicknamed project Satin. This and the Beehive project hit the economy even harder.
1958:
George Landenfield dies of a botched surgery on his throat cancer (due to his intense smoking habits) at 57 years old, leaving the leadership to his spoiled 25-year-old son, Rador Landenfield. He uses much of the government budget to host non-stop enormous parties, buy incredibly expensive items of little logical value, and build statues of himself made of gold, causing the people to starve. This caused the still tottering economy (From the Beehive and Satin projects) to collapse.
1959:
After a year of Rador’s reign, the military, backed with the common people, hold an uprising against him, crushing Rador to death with one of his own statues. The Military take over the island, making Dokansia a Junta until the economy is stabilized and a new leader is elected. To prevent this situation from happening again, a new rule is drafted (By head of the military at the time, Rimmy Sinclair) that whenever a leader dies, a voting process will begin to elect a new one. To avoid inexperience, the candidates have to had to either worked for the government (In a reasonably high position) or be a General in the military.
1963:
It takes 4 years to economically recover from what historians name the ‘Triple Strike’ (Beehive, Satin, and Rador’s parties) and for the people to elect a new leader. An election is held, and after many campaigns, the 3rd leader in 5 years steps up: Robert Sandstone. Nicknamed ‘The sandman’ by his associates (never to his face, of course) Robert was chosen for his strong speeches about making Dokansia a mighty nation, and bringing order and justice to the island. The new leader was a Muscular man of 32, standing at a recorded height of 6’5. Quote from the head of military:
“That man oozed power and eminence, you could feel your heart sink through the floor when he spoke. God help you if you managed to piss him off, you would see him talk to the person next to him quietly, his soft voice was somehow more intimidating then if he yelled at you. The next day you’ll suddenly be missing in a ‘freak accident’.”
The first thing that Robert Sandstone did when he came into power was to impose 2 years compulsory military service from 18 years of age.
1964:
The otherwise neutral relations between Glave and Dokansia become hostile when Glavian submarines opened fire on a Dokansian Cruise liner: ‘The Golden Sparrow”, killing all 1500 on board. The ship had reportedly refused to identify itself, ‘forcing’ the Glavian submarines to open fire. Once Robert heard about this he was reportedly infuriated, and called in his propaganda staff immediately. He ordered them to start spreading propaganda about how Glave is the embodiment of evil, and how they slaughtered and tortured the survivors of the wreckage. After the meeting with his propaganda team, George demanded that navy patrols in Dokansian waters be increased, and banned all Glavian tourists from visiting the island. This is marked as the official beginning of hostile relations with Glave.
1966:
Dokansias first Special forces unit is made: State and Foreign Task Force, or SFTF. Their purpose at the time was to conduct sabotage raids on Glavian territory. The SFTF were under the command of the Head of Military Rimmy Sinclair at the time. Robert Sandstone changes the title of the leader of Dokansia to ‘Leader x’ Meaning from then on, he was to be referred to as “Leader Sandstone” or else suffer a hefty fine of 15,000 Czechas.
1969:
Leader Sandstone makes the SFTF a separate branch from the Dokansian military. Their new Leader is the (by now) General Edwin Matthews. The SFTF gained multiple new roles with this split, becoming the anti- terrorism force for Dokansia and its overseas territories, as well as becoming a foreign intelligence agency. They set up their H.Q underneath the island. Leader Sandstone begins work on an island wide underground railway system, storing the dirt for a later project.
1975:
The railway project is finally finished. The dirt from the Railway is shipped out to various shallow points off the Southern coast of Dokansia and dumped there, forming tiny islands. Atop those islands Sandstone orders Military outposts to be built, with around 80 men manning each one. The outpost equipped with anti-aircraft guns, runways, and small submarine ports. A total of 8 of these “Outbound Outposts” are made by the end of the year.
1985:
General Matthews dies of old age and is given a state funeral. To succeed him comes his son, Ernst Matthews. He creates the official motto of the SFTF: “Bravery, Intelligence, Strength”. He also adds a new role for the SFTF, a Government official bodyguard service.
1992:
1 Year after the fall of the Soviet Union, Leader Sandstone decides to celebrate by ordering SFTF masking as Pirates to raid Glavian ships, trade or civilian. Glave discovered what was happening only after a tanker full of oil was stolen and redirected to Dokansia. In response they added a submarine escort to all Glavian ships, with orders to open fire on any ship that didn’t identify itself when asked. Deciding to go in for a penny, in for a pound, Glave also sent a special forces unit of their own to capture and destroy one of the Outbound outposts. They ultimately failed in their mission, but still managed to destroy the port along with the submarine inside it, as well as blowing up the med bay, (which thankfully had no occupants at the time) before swimming back in scuba gear into their own submarine waiting several kilometres away. In all, they inflicted 38 casualties with 16 dead. 4 Glavian special forces members where killed from an estimated 15.
After the incident, Leader Sandstone took it as an opportunity to review and reform the defenses of these outposts.
2000:
Internet is finally introduced to the island under the domain of .ds. Despite worry from Sandstones advisors, no restrictions are emplaced, as he wanted to see what would happen if they were given free reign around the internet. To his recorded pride, the first thing they did was to take to the forum websites and battle the so far unopposed Glavians there. His final verdict on the situation was to be that while search results of the Dokansian people are monitored, nothing would be banned except for Major Anti-Dokansia propoganda websites.
2002:
On January 21st, Dokansia is hit by their first major natural disaster: A 12-meter-tall tsunami hits the west coast after a major earthquake. Due to the rarity of natural disasters in Dokansia, the Nation was ill prepared for the event. After the wave pushed 23km inland, a total of 715 million Czechas worth of property damage was done, as well as around 800 dead and 4500 injured. The ageing Leader Sandstone was in the underground SFTF base at the time of the impact, causing citizens to silently fume at his ignorance at the obvious warning signs that preceded the disaster. To prevent a similar situation from happening again, Leader Sandstone implemented a new tsunami warning system, as well as a Paper and online guide on how to respond to a tsunami, as well as other natural disasters.
2005:
The Dokansian government web page is set up after many setbacks from Glavian hacker groups. To defend it, Ernst Mathews forms Dokansias own hacker group: Technology Strike and Defense Group (TSDG) which branches off the SFTF, with priorities to defend against hacking and to launch hacking raids of their own. This started a trend of many a salty gamer claiming to be a member of the TSGD. Leader Sandstones 19-year-old nephew Heasco Dokkes gets a job in the military.
2007:
Despite the ongoing Economic crisis, Sandstone decides to refurbish the now 135-year-old Sewer system. While the sewers had gone under minor improvements over the years, the majority of it was crumbling to the point where Dokansian engineers are in awe at how it managed to last this long.
2012:
During the prophesied end of the world, a massive scam epidemic tricks the god-fearing population of Dokansia into selling all their belongings and promising to:
“Tell one of our expert priests to convert it into heaven dollars for you to use in the afterlife”
By the time the scam is found out by the Dokansian government, the now millionaire scammers have all fled overseas, namely Glave, who reportedly congratulated the scammers on fooling the Dokansian population. A younger Leader Sandstone would have declared war on Glave just to punish the perpetrators, but in his later years, he became a much more mellow man. A few days later, he gave a speech:
“This is an important lesson for Dokansia, be careful on whom you trust your money with, as some people will do anything to gain money from you, even betraying the sanctity of holiness to achieve their nefarious goals.”
He sets a scamming education program as a staple on the Dokansian year 7 curriculum. Over the following months, the 14 scammers mysteriously disappear, as to whom made them disappear is unknown.
2020:
The Great leader Sandstone passes away at the age of 89. His last words where expressing regret at not being able to reach 90. After the Week-Long mourning period, the inevitable election takes place. The two main candidates are the 34-year-old, and the (Now) General Heasco Dokkes, and the 55-year-old Ernst Matthews. After winning by only 48 votes, Heasco comes out on top. In the following months: He abolishes the leader voting system, with leadership instead being chosen by the current ruler, He registers Dokansia into the 10,000 islands region, as well as joining the prestigious TITO force.
A British Explorer named Charles Dokansia spots the Island but decides to leave it unexplored, as he was on the way to an ancient shipwreck roughly 11,000 Miles south, he informs the crown of it when he returns from his (successful) venture.
