Hello Islanders! It's your favorite 139-year-old Senior Senator and Tactical Officer here for another campaign. For anyone that doesn't know, I was an active member of the Islands from 2012-2016. During that time, I served as the BCN Senator, Senior Senator, and Tactical Officer. I CTE'd until this March; after my return, I've served as the NRS Senator, Senior Senator, and Tactical Officer. As always, I welcome the chance to present my vision for the Islands and my goals for the next term.
My Goals As an Islander
As an Islander, there are some things that I am going to support and work towards whether you elect me or not. I'm always going to do what I can to encourage Islander activity and retention, whether by government activity and laws or by interacting with people, helping with events, spamming, and playing games. I'm firmly committed to promoting our defender values, both internally and in our foreign affairs. Finally, one of the most important things is working to help develop new leaders and encouraging them to excel. NationStates, like many game communities, has a pretty high turnover rate and it's very important that we ensure there are capable leaders to replace those who move on to other things.
My Goals As a Senator
As a Senator, I'd specifically like to help ensure that our government increases and deepens relationships with friendly regions and works to engage in interregional activities. I particularly want to help develop other defender regions; raiders are as pernicious as ever and we need every functioning region and defender we can get. Internally, I would like to encourage gameside, Discord, and forum interactions and to try to avoid the formation of entirely separate communities through multi-platform events and crosslinked messaging. I would also like to encourage the creation or continuation of government and region-operation jobs as a practical step to develop new leadership among the Islanders.
My Goals As the New Republica South Senator
As the New Republica South Senator, my main goal is obviously to encourage better debate participation. In my past term, I had hoped to increase debate participation through the Discord but I was not and am not satisfied with the tone of discourse present. One of my main immediate goals is to develop better conduct guidelines for debate for use on the Discord and in the Debate Hall; even if I'm not elected, I will continue to work on these guidelines as a Discord Moderator. Before these guidelines are finished, I'd like to hire a Deputy Senator to help start productive and civil debates. One of the main reasons I've not been proposing many debate topics is that the politicized place in which I find myself in real life colors my debate ideas and phrasing; it would be helpful to have a Deputy to help with suggestions and phrasing to try to avoid bitter debates. After we begin posting debate topics, we will work to promote those debates on the Discord and the RMB and will also draw attention to others' debates that seem likely to promote good discussion. After the guidelines are complete, I'd like to try a debate format where we begin the debate on the Discord and then post a summary of the various positions to start the forum thread. This will allow for some fairly built out starting positions for people to asynchronously work with on the forum and will also encourage the Discord debaters to follow up with the forum debate.
To preempt the perennial question, I have abided by and will continue to abide by the Transparency Pledge and will always be open to ways to make Islanders feel that the Council engages with their concerns.
