General Assembly Resolution #498 “Ban on Forced Blood Sports” (Category: Moral Decency; Strength: Mild) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

This Grand, Revered and Venerated World Assembly,

Observing the passage of the resolution "Ban on Forced Blood Sports" (GA#498), which forbade most instances of blood sports from occurring;

Disturbed that GA#498 prevents member nations from utilising animal cruelty in the form of blood sports to create revenue streams through gambling, a despicable endeavour that bankrupts many well-intentioned bookies;

Dumbfounded that religious sacrifice is excluded from the definition of blood sports for no good reason, not only allowing barbaric practices to continue without penalty on the basis of religious dogma, but also incentivising the usage or creation of religions as a pretext for blood sports, undermining the resolution's effectiveness;

Dismayed at the horrondous typographical error in clause 4a of GA#498, not only unbecoming of the high standards of this assembly but also likely resulting in differing interpretations of the clause by member nations, confusing member nations;

Disturbed that a blood sport which occurs between a person and an animal, but the person consents and is the only participant at risk of endangerment, such as more humane bullfighting where the bulls are not placed at risk of harm and are released in the end, are prohibited as per GA#498; and

Firmly convinced that GA#498 is a poorly written mess of a resolution, and should be removed from standing international law;

Hereby repeals GA#498, "Ban on Forced Blood Sports".

I plan to vote against this repeal, unless I can be convinced otherwise (I am still open to discussion). Line by line, each argument for the repeal is easily disputed as follows:

It seems strange to be "disturbed" by legislation that prevents such atrocious situations. This line must be a typo. I sincerely doubt that this is truly what the author intended to communicate.

While I am puzzled as to why GA#498 excludes religious sacrifice, and agree that it allows the "barbaric practices to continue without penalty", I don't see how it is incentivizing "usage or creation of religions". The two are not analogous.

The typographical error mentioned here is hardly horrendous. The word "of" was erroneously used instead of what should have been "or". A reasonable nation can still easily overlook the mistake, as the passage's intended meaning is still obvious. A regrettable typo, to be sure, but this repeal makes it seem far worse than it really is.

It is unclear why the author considers this prevention disturbing. Even though the risk posed by such sports seems one-sided during the event, releasing animals that have attacked and possibly maimed or killed sentient beings into the public is unsafe. This is tantamount to training an animal to kill, and then releasing them on an unsuspecting populace. Such sport should absolutely be prevented.

For the reasons given above, I don't think that repealing this ban is necessary.
