Greetings ten thousand friends.
I am Refuge Isle. I have been asked by Foreign Affairs Councillor Sylh Alanor to act as Refugia's envoy to XKI. The following foreign affairs update was recently released by the office prior to the construction of this embassy, but I shall share it with you now to be apprised of the most recent happenings of note.
This message has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit your screen and run in the time allotted.
An’eth’ara! Welcome to the first Refugia Foreign Affairs Update of 2021!
I hope everyone had nice, relaxing holidays and was able to close 2020 out in peace. As we look back on the end of last year, there are a lot of regional goings-on to share.
To start, we’ll look at what’s changed in the Foreign Affairs department. The Refugia Envoy programme was introduced on October 22 with the goal of placing a Refugi in all of our embassy regions. I’ve been hoping that it would result in closer relationships and friendlier ties. As of writing this document, every embassy save two has been filled, and I hope to see the others taken care of soon.
Envoys aren’t the only thing that’s been happening in the Foreign Affairs department either. We’ve been on an embassy spree, cleaning up while also finding new friends! Since the beginning of October, we’ve re-opened our embassy with The Leftist Assembly, as well as forging new diplomatic ties with older regions like Yggdrasil and Spiritus. Diplomatic offices were also established in The Pacific. In fact, with new legislation shortening the referendum time on opening and closing embassies to four days from seven, starting new friendships is faster than ever.
Refugia has been practising our writing skills on more than just legislation. After a lot of hard work from Refuge Isle on graphics, and far too much bloviating on my part, we have the official Refugia Foreign Affairs Dispatch. It gives a little bit of the department’s history, our goals, and things to consider when approaching us about embassies. The coolest part is the list of travel runes, which are drawn by Refugi to create portals between Refugia and other places. We design each one with the embassy in mind.
Another interesting thing that has happened in the interim is the re-organisation of our founding document, the Refugia Revised Statutes. Submitted by Refuge Isle, the new layout for the RRS aims to make things easier to find and amend by grouping the various laws into categories and giving the entire document a better layout.
Finally, our regional Council is growing. A new amendment passed two weeks ago called for the establishment of a World Assembly Affairs office, complete with a brand new Council seat. The election period for our first WAA Councillor has just ended, and [nation]Junitaki-cho[/nation] has taken her seat. Her term will last until the next set of elections in February.
As always, if you have any questions or issues, myself and all our Envoys are available.

Hello! Welcome to the Foreign Affairs Update for July 2021!
It’s been several months since the last FA Update, an entire term in fact. We all hope that you’ve been doing well through the pandemic and the extremely warm summer months.
First off, we’re currently in the midst of a cultural event! Come check out the Battle of All Things (forum link). Have you ever wanted to see how a character you’ve created, meme or otherwise, stacks up against the competition in a vote-based character battle tournament? Well you’re in luck! We’re currently accepting character applications until August 21, 2021. To enter, all we require is that you have a forum account.
Refugia has recently completed an election! As we start our new terms, the face of the Council has pretty dramatically changed. Several Councillors were term-limited and several others chose not to stand for a second term. This is good, because we’re always happy to see new people try positions out in our regional government. The results, once they were counted, have shown the following:
Feu de Glace, beginning her first term as Councillor of Operations
Lethodus, beginning their first term as Councillor of Culture
Liphia, beginning his first term as Councillor of the Interior
Sylh Alanor, beginning her first term as Councillor of World Assembly Affairs
Refuge Isle, as the Arch-Admin, retains a seat on the Council. As no member state elected to stand for the Foreign Affairs Councillor position, Refuge Isle will be considered Acting Councillor of Foreign Affairs until a volunteer can be located and appointed to the position.
As of July 1st, 2021, we met and exceeded our Eco-Friendliness and Environmental Beauty goals for 2021! Refugia has set for ourselves environmental stat goals every year since our founding in early 2019. While this isn’t the first year we’ve beaten our self-challenged numbers, it’s the first year we’ve done it with more than a month or two to go in the year.
In other news, we’ve been working to create more of a separation between our central community, Calamity Refuge, and Refugia, which is our NationStates branch. As some of our regulars have begun retiring from or wishing to implement some distance between themselves and the site, we have started putting more effort into the forums and finding other games for us to play. After beginning this effort in February, the community seems to have adjusted reasonably well. Several game nights, first by previous Councillor of Culture [nation]Sylh Alanor[/nation] and then followed up by current Councillor of Culture [nation]Lethodus[/nation], have seen significant turnout.
Also on the forum side, we've started getting back into roleplaying. Two new RP threads were started, one in the spring and one this month. One of the RP threads was a reset of one that had been popular back in 2018, and the other was entirely new.
Our last FA update was back in July, and I'm sure you're absolutely dying to know what's been happening in your favourite peaceful democracy.
Firstly, we have recently completed an election! Our government has changed once again, with new faces and returning Councillors both. The lineup is as follows:
Lethodus published a fabulous Refugia Eco-Report. Our Eco-Reports represent the region's dedication to the conservation of and respect for the environment. They both cover the stats of our nations and give some advice for the real world. While our overall environmental statistics have been trending down, this is due to the plethora of new arrivals brought to us by our indomitable recruiters. You know what they say - you can lead a horse to a gift but never look straight from its mouth. Something like that, anyway.
I'm sure you noticed the zombie apocalypse. Despite the disappointing early setback, Refugia managed to entirely quell the uprising due to many heroic citizens and the leadership of the Councillor of Operations. Alas, it was too late to save everyone. A modest position on the "most survivors" leaderboard was claimed.
As for internal events: The annual Refuge Census is currently underway. This is an opportunity to gather some interesting information about who we are, as well as provide some feedback about the community. The Lottery of All The Things II has concluded, with [nation]Refuge Isle[/nation] showering riches across the land in the form of international artwork.

Greetings, 10000 Islands, I bring you the latest update from Refugia.
It has been modified from its original version and formatted to run in the time allotted.
Hello! Welcome to the Foreign Affairs Update for March 2022!
This is a cosy little tradition now, the experience of us force-feeding you an entire plate full of love at the start of each new Foreign Affairs term. Refugia traditionally is a pretty stable and quiet place; add in the fact that none of really seek out attention, and we end up not having a lot of news that we project outward. Sorry about that!
In the last Refugia FA Update, we mentioned that we were in the middle of working on our regional census. That was completed in September and the full results have been posted! Calamity Refuge has been running this census since 2009, and this is by far the largest turnout we’ve ever gotten. A lot of newer Refugi were able to learn about services they might not even have realised we offered. Check out the dispatch here!
Refugia has recently concluded our winter elections, complete with multiple votes and at least one upset. Now that we’ve completed counting the votes and the new Councillors have settled into their seats, the government looks like the following:
[/b][/font], beginning her fourth term as Councillor of Operations[/ul]
[/b][/font], beginning her fourth term as Councillor of Foreign Affairs[/ul]
[/b][/font], beginning his first term as Councillor of Culture[/ul]
[/b][/font], beginning his first term as Councillor of World Assembly Affairs[/ul]
[/b][/font], stalwart and inevitable Arch-Admin.[/ul]
Recently, Refugia crossed another massive milestone. Currently, we’re sitting at 9th in the world for highest average number of endorsements! We’ve been pushing at this for a while now, and our regional influence has been taking off over the last year. Our regular endotarting competitions, Minskiev’s prolific spree of WAA IFV’s, and our most recent Eco-Report have been regularly trending into the top dispatch feed.
Since the last update, we’ve held several CalRef movie nights in our Discord, pushing through the Studio Ghibli catalogue and various Disney movies, hosted by outgoing Culture Councillor Lethodus and Sylh Alanor. Through our occasional Discord-only events, we’ve noticed two distinct cultural groups growing within the community: those who engage in the CalRef discord and those who remain gameside on Refugia’s RMB. It’s been a fun experience to watch this develop and thrive.
Finally, we’ve begun looking for new embassies again! Most recently, we’ve opened up an embassy with Celtia, and look forward to having plenty of fun together in the future.
Hopefully this plate full of affection has found you coming out of your long winter’s nap and preparing for a beautiful spring. Or, if you’re in the southern hemisphere, we hope the snacks provided help you prepare for the oncoming cold! Thanks for reading, we’ll see you again soon.
