Protecting Sapient Life
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.
Category: Civil Rights
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Tinhampton
Recognising that GA#535 "Death Penalty Ban," while outlawing capital punishment in most circumstances, permits its deployment under military law in some circumstances, and
Seeking to abolish capital punishment in all circumstances across the WA, for reasons that have been stated in at least three different resolutions...
The General Assembly hereby:
forbids the imposition of the death penalty in all cases where such has not already been prohibited by prior and standing international law, and
prohibits members from deporting any person to a nation where said person faces a reasonable possibility of being sentenced to death for the crimes they have been charged with committing.

I'm FOR this one for the same reason I was for the other one. The death penalty is unethical and each step towards its total abolition in all member states is a good one.

Absolutely, the death penalty is terrible, absolutely terrible and painful for the person who is being executed, the end goal of imprisonment should not be punishment, but rehabilitation.

i am against this one, as abolishing the death penalty is already displeasing for me, but even in war? imagine if saddam was still alive today. thats the world that these people act like they want to live in.

I see no imperative to execute war criminals or leaders who commit crimes against humanity. Isolate them, imprison them, attempt to rehabilitate them, deprive them of the ability to gain political power, etc. The idea certain people are so terrible they have to be "dealt with" certain barbaric and vengeful ways doesn't make sense to me.

To me, justice is making sure nobody gets harmed in the present and the future, and using death as a punishment goes against that. What you describe as justice, is what I would consider vengeance.
I was already against the previous resolution, but even in the context of a death penalty ban (which, let's be honest, I don't mind that much) this resolution is redundant, vague and poorly written. It is very obvious that it was rushed to be passed after the Death Penalty Ban for extra publicity at the expense of quality or even purpose.
Against.
