The Basics of the NationStates Game!
This is not meant to be a complete guide to the NationStates (NS) game, but rather a little information to get you started. For a more complete explanation, please see the 'Help' section available on the side-bar at www.nationstates.net.
The actual NationStates (NS) game is simple and repetitive, which is why our forum is such an important part to the 10000 Islands. Our forum is entirely player-created gameplay meant to serve as an entertaining extension to NationStates. This chapter will focus on the very basics of NationStates itself.
3.1 – Issues
Every day, nations log on to check and answer their “issues". Issues are political decisions that players make, which shape their nations as a result, and nations get 5 issues every 24 hours. The choices you make on your issues directly affect your civil rights, economic, and political freedom levels, as well as your tax rate and various other statistics founded in the Ranked category. Over time, they also determine what type of government you have—from a “Corrupt Dictatorship” to “Anarchy.”
This link shows how the civil, economic, and political levels affect your nation’s government type
You can decide how often issues come to you by clicking on “Settings” in the side-bar on the NS game, but 5 is the maximum amount you may recieve per day.
3.2 - The WA
To have any sort of influence in NS, you should consider joining the World Assembly. By being a member, your nation can endorse other nations, and also receive endorsements. You may also vote on the current WA resolution, shown by clicking on “World Assembly” in the side-bar on NS. With two endorsements, you are allowed to submit proposals to the WA, which may be put up for a vote if they receive enough support. Joining the WA is also the requirement to receive citizenship here in the region.
Even though you may create more than one nation, you are only allowed to have one nation in the WA at a time. This is important. Violating this rule could get you ejected from the WA permanently or, even worse, deleted permanently.
3.3 – Population
A common question for newer players is how population works. Your population grows every single day and how much it grows changes at an linear rate up until a certain point. Every nation starts out with 5 million population growing at 1 million per day, which then will jump to 2 million, then to 3, and so on and so forth. This continues all the way up to 62 million where your daily growth becomes variable from 5-7 million per day and will remain that way from now on.
Different population markers also open up different abilities:
-250 million allows you to name a capital
-500 million allows for a custom pretitle and you can now submit issues
-750 million allows you to name a leader
-1 billion allows a custom religion
3.4 - Dossier
Your dossier is a handy tool available to all nations to help you keep track of regions or nations that you like to pay special attention to. You can also view activity for just nations in your dossier if you want to see what a combination of specific nations have been up to in the game.
For nations, the dossier will tell you when they were last online, what their government classification is, and also when they were last online.
For regions, it will show the population count and also who the delegate is.
