Hello everyone! My name is Flying Eagles. It’s been around 11 months since I became active again in XKI. I love this place, especially being a TITO commander and the NRS deputy senator. I think we’ve all made immense progress in revitalizing the debate hall over the past 4 months, and I would be honoured to receive the chance to continue that in the next 4 months. Having been satisfied with my work as NRS deputy, a lot of this platform will be a continuation of what I believe has already been proven to work, with some improvements where I personally see fit.
NRS Duties
First of all, I intend to hire a deputy at the onset of my term. They’re great to bounce ideas off of, and being a former deputy myself, I think it was a great way to give another Islander the chance to gain experience with some senatorial duties.
I also found the 2021 XKI Debates very successful, and think I could make it a much more frequent event. I intend to run it again at some point in my term if there’s sufficient interest. I also intend to continue the use of the @debater role that the previous senator established to provide an easy way to inform people of interesting happenings in the debate hall.
The thing overall though that I’d like to do most is incentivizing more activity in the debate hall. Specifically, while the role of ensuring a debate topic is posted every week is important, I’d also like to encourage other Islanders to get involved with posting topics. I think this can come about through the NRS senator engaging more often in the debate threads, which should make Islanders more comfortable to naturally get involved in the debate hall. I would also look into perhaps rewarding people who make frequently strong contributions to the debate hall with tacos or similar items.
Another area that is very important in the NRS duties is the election debates. While the format of the NRS senator simply asking questions to the candidates works well enough, I would like to recreate a healthy sense of election debate found in threads like 10000islands.proboards.com/thread/39563/senate-debate-lyonnesse-east. Therefore, if we have multiple candidates for a seat, I’ll retry this for the July and September elections (or my deputy if I run for Co9 again in September). Otherwise, I can stick to doing what Dokansia did and just posting the questions.
Council of 9 Duties
As a TITO Tactical Officer, I already have some experience in dealing with important businesses that can translate into the Council of 9. While I don’t have any specific laws that I feel need to be passed, I think having an open DM/PM/TG policy will allow Islanders to communicate to me if they feel any action needs to be taken in our legislature, and I would be willing to help Islanders write laws they feel are necessary and present them to the Council.
