OOC: There used to be a place for sci-fi nations to role-play. Not sure whether they have it or not. If not, we'll just assume the people I'm mentioning are human and I'll correct it on the next dispatch.
"Forced Relocation" Plan repealed
Three days ago, a plan that is widely referred to as "forced relocation" was repealed. The goal of the plan was to give the Giant Mantises more control of agriculture; however, this meant that those in District B, C, and D would all have to move closer to the city.
Conservatist and Senate Minority Leader Ron Howling, aided by Progressivist Senate Majority Leader Horr'r McTot'r, successfully passed the repeal after the three-headed Troika initiated the policy. The repeal was passed by an overwhleming majority, 95-3-2.
The Senate will revisit the measure after the election as part of a rezoning plan in the future that will not involve current residents relocating.
In front of a crowd of thousands, Mr. Tabanai Smith, one of the remaining few mantis hunters, was executed. His crime was the hunting and killing of sentient Giant Mantises. Over the course of several decades, Mr. Smith routinely hunted for, killed, and skinned sentient Giant Mantises. Mantises are wanted in some parts of the world for their antennae and their hide.
Prosecutors believe selling out the amphitheater to an audience composed of Giant Mantises sends a message that Mantises are sentient, first-class citizens and that killing them is tantamount to murder. Before he was executed, Mr. Smith implored reporters to remember that his crimes were once legal. His attorneys argued in court that the commission of these crimes occurred before Mantis Hunting was illegal.
Prosecutors pointed to a number of instances when Mr. Smith continued to trespass in District A, and several months later a murdered mantis with his DNA was found on it. "A murder is a murder. When you are able to show that a troubling pattern of behavior continues after a law is passed to make it illegal, the law is the law," Ace prosecutor Jawal N'tita successful argued in court. National prosecutors believe that there are between ten and twenty Mantis Hunters on the loose and that the sooner more examples are mad of these criminals, the better it will be to raise public awareness of the illegality of these crimes.
